Design the new ?! single artwork
Edel/earMUSIC has announced that the third single from Now what?! will be Above and Beyond. They are holding a competition for the graphic design of the new single:
earMUSIC and Deep Purple will pick one of your works, as an inspiration for the final cover for the new single, or possibly as “the” cover. Details about formats and B-sides are not known to this date.
We will also extract a lucky winner from everyone who has submitted a design and the German made Fame guitar signed by all members of Deep Purple in the picture will be yours.
Contest rules:
- The contest closes on July 28, 2013
- Send your artwork via e-Mail to win_earmusic@edel.com
- Minimum resolution: 2000x2000px
- 300dpi
- Do not include a Deep Purple logo or “Above and Beyond” writing
- Read the legalese on earMusic.com before submitting anything.
Thanks to BraveWords for the info.
I’m having a contest… to see who can build me the best garage… I wont pay you. But if you build it, and I select it as the winning garage… I might park my cars in it… yea, just think of the exposure you’ll get… you can take pictures and put it in your portfolio.
thanks for playing.
July 10th, 2013 at 03:07I am confused, if you can’t use the Deep Purple logo or the words Above and Beyond, how is anybody gonna know what it is. I know I am very tired at the moment and maybe I am not reading this clearly enough but what am I missing here. Why not just take a picture of the sky? Maybe they want to add the wording in after they get your design. That must be it.
July 10th, 2013 at 20:30Well, the song is about Jon Lord, so there should be something in the picture that says to us “hey, that’s Jon right there” 😀 I mean, he ment a lot to the band and its history (huh?), so there should be some clues to Lord there. All in my opinion of course 😉
Still think that NW? is the best Purple record since Purpendicular, and Purp was the best since Perfect Strangers, and PS was the best since WDWTWA…..meaning NW? is one of the best records since the 70s 😀 It’s just GREAT, and there’s a lot of great live material on it.

July 12th, 2013 at 10:10I understand the frustration of some who believe that the prize should be monetary compensation for their work. Professional graphics artists in particular are offended at giving up the rights to their images for no fee.
Further, it is understandable that some would be disappointed that no logos or lettering are to be used. Lettering is a work of art in itself. But the most likely reason that the titles are not allowed is so that the company’s artists can correctly place the lettering and in the same font design as the album artwork in an effort to maintain recognizable continuity.
On the other hand, this contest is a fitting tribute for a *fan* to have his or her artwork used to illustrate the cover of a recording done by one’s favorite band. For many of us, it would be considered an honor to be connected to the band in some way. Money is not as important as the satisfaction in being chosen, and the guitar is an instant collectible. If the record company saves some money in the process, so be it–a means of furthering the success of the new album.
For this reason, I submitted several designs and made several more that I did not submit. It was a pleasure to do this kind of work–especially since it is a hobby of mine. I have made many covers for my own Deep Purple mix CDs and cassettes over the years. This contest was an opportunity for some of my work to be seen.
Now that the contest is over, you can see my submissions by clicking on the “T” above or https://sites.google.com/site/stratkatzguitarbunker/ .
