A tongue in cheek video, a bit of harmless fun with sone witty points. Hopefully it will keep the promotion of the album going. They do seem to be pushing the boat out for this album, is it because it will be their last?! I do hope not but I fear it may be. Can’t wait for the tour, zombies to diiiieeeeee ffoooorrrr!
Cheesy but hey its DP.. fun one too.. and gillan’s scream in the end was worth it… cmon guys…mebbe another vid in the same vein would be nice too… Apres Vouz?????
@LRT: I remember it had studio footage but I don’t think it was done especially for the internet. But it was made to look like something from the internet.
Sex sells eh? A bit of fun for sure, but also a bit cheap in some aspects! Don’t get me wrong I am not a doo gooder, all nuns should be like that, or should I say all younger nuns, but really…………amazing how they resurrected Vincent from the other side also, he looks so young again………….everybody looks so young……….well almost everybody………..
Really cool to see them taking part in promoting this album. Even though videos don’t do for the bands what they used to back in the ’80s, going through the motions is a good effort. Great story. Great concept. ?URFECT END!NG. Videos work. I like the song even more Now! What? As with all of the tunes on this release, the more I listen, the more I like. I want to see it aired on the Video Channels. I presume from the video that there actually are wax figures of our heroes? Time for Action Figures to follow….. I’ll be looking on the toy store shelves soon. The only thing missing from the video was an Alice Cooper cameo, all though rumor has it that he is actually the ‘man behind the mask’.
It would have been perfect for Top of the Pops – just raunchy enough to keep the dads watching while exclaiming that modern music is just noise – but utterly outraging Mrs Whitehouse.
The emphasis on the pole dancer is a little bit risqué and could turn off parents of younger fans (don’t call me a prude–I have large collection of 1960s Playboy Club memorabilia, including a bunny tail), but the overall concept is well-executed and quite funny. The video easily should be picked up by media market outlets and provide good PR.
Deep Purple was never gone, but they ARE back in a big way.
A witty homage to the old schlocky B grade horror films. Absolutely loving it. Must say that the Nuns’ never looked like that when I was at primary school.
LOL 😀 Great video, and it certainly is a great song 🙂 Edel is good at promoting, and Purple really deserves it. If Now What?! turns out to be their last studio album, it’s a worthy ending to their studiowork. Long live Deep Purple!!!
OK for us fans, but a bit cheesy for the general public. I like the overall idea, and you can’t go wrong with the standout track from the album, but they tried to cram too much in.
People are picking up on the gratuitousness of the pole dancing nun because… it IS totally gratuitous. Off the top of my head, I could name several post-Blackmore Purple songs that could totally use a pole dancing nun. Ted the Mechanic, Doing It Tonight, Body Line, Apres Vous… but she’s out of place here. And it looks like they couldn’t make up their mind whether the video should be a homage to Vincent Price the actor, to 1950s serio-comic horror cheese in general, to expressionistic German horror movies from the silent era (Fritz Lang, W.F Murnau) or to the group’ own prior video work in King Of Dreams and Love Conquers All. I would have advised them to go for the 1950s approach and also to ditch the young couple as viewpoint characters.
Actually, without the young couple, the nun would have worked (and yes, I know the nun is the girl from the couple – but they act as completely different characters). Also, Big Ian is sublimely creepy in the final scenes, so why not give him a bigger acting role instead of just having him sit at a table?
I’m enjoying this enough to watch it again and again, though. It’s not groundbreaking work but it’s just nice to see them in a vid at all.
The band looks scary, but Gillan is diabolic! I wouldn´t meet him in a back alley at night. Does the nun remind me of Audrey Hepburn or is that just me?
Ha…maybe Richie would have taken this direction already back in 68 with his spooky jokes to his bandmates! Is it me or Steve´s solo guitar tune comes very similar to Richie´s at one point?
Notwithstanding Don’s Mr. Crowley like intro, there are a couple of Alice Cooper references here, Obviously Vincent Price himself was on “Welcome To My Nightmare” produced by Bob Ezrin but during the video was that a Black Widow spider in the soup as well as the “Love It To Death” type eye make-up that Alice used to wear on the 2 eye balls? Either way the actor was a DEAD Ringer for Mr. Price and the video was fun but I found the music track was a little dryer/sparse than on the CD.
How about the Wax figures of the band? Sorta makes the BURN ones obsolete now….(WHAT) ?!
I find great creativity and humor in this! No need to be serious! Ya gotsta love Steve’s old horror movie strains! Anybody know who the actor is playing a young Vincent?!
This video is completly tasteless and tacky. First they hire one of the best record producers in the world and make a hell of a good album, that is totally believable and honest. Then they hire the worst video director in the history of the music video and makes one of the worst videos I’ve seen in a long time. The guys are almost 70 years, what is that girl doing there pole dancing? I don’t think DP associates well with that type of scenario, it’s more like a KISS, Whitesnake, Motley Crüe type of scenario. DP is a band of musician, they shouldn’t be the soundtrack to a tacky erotic piece of shit video. My son is 8 years and was looking forward to see this video because he likes Purple, I can’t show this to him now can I? They should have hired a real director to do this video, then it would have been nice. Aren’t there any good directors out there who are fans of DP who’d have loved to do this? I bet Bob Ezrin hates this video.
@37 you wanted to be good ? This is a great album! Just one of those fans that want to bash and compare anything with the past, great video to a great song! the band is finally is promoting the album the right way!clueless ? Witless ? wow!
@20 Hey Tracy don’t say that bro,They “owed ” to Bob Ezrin for another album in a couple of years. lol This is great collaboration, but even if it is the last album,it is a great ending! Hey Tracy your favorite song ?
Ha ha! Tha album is good – that’s why it’s being universally accepted as such by critics and punters a like. Don’t let your own agenda cloud your perception of that. Whether you like it or not is your own perogative and a different matter entirely.
@Svante -I’m surprised they played it on MTV, when it is a fact that all of their video’s were record company financed. They only played video’s that deals were made for. By that time it goes to show where MTV was at, but in the US, they refused at COTW to heavily rotate DP because they were “too old.”
Looks like it was done on a 486 and probably was. 🙂

Some of us have already seen a female fan or two go ape over the dancer scene in this clip, saying Love Conquers All was more tasteful and LESS EXPLICIT. I suppose a face shot of JLT all video long worked better.
The song is very good but the video is cheesy (not to say embaracing !).
Could have done better .
I will dismiss this one in favour of simply listening to the song on my iPad.
Love it To DEATH….. As I stated….Alice in the MASK. Great STUFF!! Enjoy IT!! It’s what we Got. Or go to the Forest and look for a Blackmore Riff……. Really? A few Riffs of the SOS? This Purple Album kill that.
Almost 45,000 hits in one day on you tube with ratio of 100-1 likes to dislikes. Fun video! I can’t believe the petty comments here. The video is tongue n cheek humor. I was surprised by the pole dancing but I think its great. Who ever cast Viola in this video is a genius.
@ 44 some of you guys have to relax, and not take things so seriously,it is a a Video, not a Felini movie, indie or concept movie! Is it Cheesy and a little bit tacky ? so what? The band finally is enjoying a little bit more the exposure, compared to what they have done in the past, cheap, half footage from their tour “Deep Purple doesn’t make videos (Call of The Wild),this is fun! Doesn’t diminish the qulaity of the album.Maybe, they listen to you and make another video, with a director you might suggest……noooot! what is a good video to you anyway ? nobody is bashing Alice Cooper for making videos and being tacky and cheesy. You people are talking like the bend just sold out and playing Hip Hop
the song could have been easily a track from Born Again.I noticed the Blackmore kind of Tone on Steve’s guitar, but I guess I’m not the only one to notice that.Loving it and cannot wait for the live version !
What I don’t get is people misinterpreting “music video” for some sort of life changing opportunity attempt failed here. Bonkers, man! “If you don’t like what you se….” but talk about “whining!” 🙂 When it should make one happy that someone doesn’t like this, it doesn’t seem to be working when the plot is completely lost.
A good story, a joke of a great song
Another good job
only fault director of the video
instead of
young couple lost in the castle, you have to be Ritchie and Candice
imagine?
Ritchie face on Ian’s final scream ..
hehe
This “cheesy” video is brilliant on several levels. Great rock ‘n roll, memorable guitar solo, attractive people, scary monsters, horror film genre, black and white, sex, and a massive sense of humor. A master stroke by Edel and Deep Purple.
Great video for a great song! Really enjoyed what they did with this. Who’d of thought that a dancing nun could be so titillating? 😉 Oh and Gillan’s eye sweep at the end is perfect!
This video is great fun and very enjoyable. I believe that the song is about hollywoods early attempts in the 20’s 30’s and 40’s to scare us and were slightly “film noir”. Believe it or not, people born in the 40’s 50’s and 60’s found these eerily creepy and suffered many a sleepless night after watching them…
Love the video. The nun has seemingly stole the show. With good reason, she’s very sexy. Thanks to Deep Purple for a triumphant record. Oh, btw please add the nun in any future videos!
It’s a fun video, and I enjoyed most of it. But pole dancing is tacky and gratuitous and doesn’t improve the video. I love to listen to DP and take my chance to encourage my friends to listen as well, but won’t be sharing this video with my sons (Mikenite, I share your frustration) or my friends.
Women do not exist for your titillation.
Very funny video suiting perfectly mood and lirics. Gillan even shows some actors skills. Kudos to edel for doing it.
May 17th, 2013 at 18:41Love it!
May 17th, 2013 at 18:43Darn, why do I instantly think of Alice Cooper?! These are weird times …
May 17th, 2013 at 18:46A tongue in cheek video, a bit of harmless fun with sone witty points. Hopefully it will keep the promotion of the album going. May 17th, 2013 at 18:52WOW! Funny video. The girl´s wearing a Fireball shirt. Is that really Paicey´s old drum kit? I hope he will play it on the next tour.
May 17th, 2013 at 19:01First promo vid since King of Dreams, am I right? I think there was one for “Haunted” but it was just live footage.
May 17th, 2013 at 19:07Loved it!
cheers
I love it, so tongue in cheek! Pole dancing nun?? In a DP video? I think this might be their best music video ever 😛
May 17th, 2013 at 19:22Cheesy but hey its DP.. fun one too.. and gillan’s scream in the end was worth it… cmon guys…mebbe another vid in the same vein would be nice too… Apres Vouz?????
May 17th, 2013 at 19:36@6: There was a video for Sometimes I Feel like Screaming too.
May 17th, 2013 at 20:03Génial
May 17th, 2013 at 20:14@Svante -made by someone around the studio for internet use?
May 17th, 2013 at 20:16@LRT: I remember it had studio footage but I don’t think it was done especially for the internet. But it was made to look like something from the internet.

I remember seeing it on MTV Europe at the time. They still played videos then. 🙂
May 17th, 2013 at 20:32just love the sense of humor in both the song and the video, its like they said ‘lets have some fun with this WTF’ typical Purple 🙂
May 17th, 2013 at 21:04I knew that was a LUDWIG Drum kit.
Weird video. Hopefully the girl dancing was not related to any of the band.
May 17th, 2013 at 21:08Awesome!!! This album is so great!!!!
May 17th, 2013 at 22:06Fun video. Great tune. Stripper is a bonus.
May 17th, 2013 at 22:12How cool was that!
May 17th, 2013 at 22:19Great job guys!
I wish there were more videos today like back in the 80’s.
Sex sells eh? A bit of fun for sure, but also a bit cheap in some aspects! May 17th, 2013 at 22:52It’s a fantastic song to begin with…
May 17th, 2013 at 22:54It would have been perfect for Top of the Pops – just raunchy enough to keep the dads watching while exclaiming that modern music is just noise – but utterly outraging Mrs Whitehouse.
Oh Well – hang on that’s Fleetwood Mac.
Marcus
May 17th, 2013 at 23:42I wonder if the origin of this song came from a conversation about Ezrin’s career.
Maybe we can have Vincent Price record an intro for a song like he did for Alice Cooper.
But he’s been dead for quite some time now.
No matter … Vincent Price is back again.
May 18th, 2013 at 00:15@7: I agree. It could be the best video ever!!
May 18th, 2013 at 01:14It was fun, sexy and very well done. What more do ya need?
Great era for Deep Purple.
Funny video for a great song….best song since Perfect Strangers!!!!!!!
May 18th, 2013 at 01:56Great video. Two thumps up for the Dancing Nun…. Argentina can hardly wait for your visit. DEEP PURPLE RULES!
May 18th, 2013 at 04:13The emphasis on the pole dancer is a little bit risqué and could turn off parents of younger fans (don’t call me a prude–I have large collection of 1960s Playboy Club memorabilia, including a bunny tail), but the overall concept is well-executed and quite funny. Ha, ha great video with not only deep purple but some of my other faves in life, Dracula, The Mummy and Frankensteins monster..!
May 18th, 2013 at 05:58And that nun..
It’s great, funny to watch, suits the music. Reminds me a bit of the really early music videos of the 80’s, and that is not a bad thing.
May 18th, 2013 at 06:37Loved the ‘carry on screaming’ reference at the end, waxwork that moved its eyes, loved the nun I mean I really loved the nun, great vid.
May 18th, 2013 at 07:26Awesome video. My wife and me love it. We cannot wait seeing them on tour in November
May 18th, 2013 at 09:12LOL 😀 Great video, and it certainly is a great song 🙂 Edel is good at promoting, and Purple really deserves it. If Now What?! turns out to be their last studio album, it’s a worthy ending to their studiowork. Long live Deep Purple!!!
May 18th, 2013 at 09:30The Rocky Horror Purple Show?!
May 18th, 2013 at 09:41OK for us fans, but a bit cheesy for the general public. I like the overall idea, and you can’t go wrong with the standout track from the album, but they tried to cram too much in.

Now What is absolutely amazing album.
Keep on rocking guys.
May 18th, 2013 at 10:35I wanted it to be good.
I wanted the album to be good.
Remember the scene in Spinal Tap where Nigel gets confused about “sexy” and “sexist”?
This isn’t good. A sad, witless, clueless final chapter in the story of a band that was once so great.
May 18th, 2013 at 10:37The band looks scary, but Gillan is diabolic! I wouldn´t meet him in a back alley at night. Does the nun remind me of Audrey Hepburn or is that just me?
May 18th, 2013 at 12:28Too bad MTV does not play music videos any more. This could be a favorite even among non fans.
May 18th, 2013 at 12:40I’ll never listen to Steve’s solo the same way again. Vavoom! She’s a ball o’ thunder.
