Purple on VH1 Classic
American cable channel VH1 Classic will feature Deep Purple in one of the upcoming episodes of the Behind The Music Remastered shows. The episode is scheduled for broadcast on April 27th at 9 PM ET/PT.
The blurb:
Deep Purple were true rock n’ roll: outrageous, bold, daring. Despite their limited success with the American mainstream, Deep Purple fans define the band as being one of the most important rock groups in music. They join Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin in being one of the pioneers of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, and their memorable riffs and classic songs are still in the hearts of metal fans today. Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, band members Richie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Steve Morse, Glenn Hughes, and many more lend their voice to tell the story of this epic rock band.
Thanks to Chris and Antimusic for the info.
Well what do you know. A promotional event right before the record is released in the states. This is encouraging.

March 20th, 2013 at 19:56Expecting something new here?
March 20th, 2013 at 21:07This great to read, though I actually sent this info in a week ago. Guess it got lost…
Looks like another example of the Ezrin connection. There is an episode of Alice Cooper also. Now couple it with a guest spot on That Metal Show as also Alice Cooper has done. Or maybe Steve Morse could be the guest musician as Glenn Hughes has done. So many avenues, such little time. Looks like the end of April will be great indeed.

March 21st, 2013 at 12:00But is ONE SINGLE Hour enough time to tell a 45 year story?
Even with the 8 year break from 76 – 84 The drama in this band over the 5 decades warrants a film the length of “Gone With The Wind”!
Either way, I can’t wait for it.
When I see it I will believe it…coming up next… Deep Purple on VH1…..do to a special news report your local scheduled program will be cancelled. Greatest Rock Band …loyal fans……no respect.
March 21st, 2013 at 20:09I believe their ticket was punched to the HoF until they collectively showed little interest at best in getting in after the nomination. Actually do not blame the HoF,
March 21st, 2013 at 21:14#8,
They repeat the episodes, so there won’t be a problem catching it.
#9,
Correct in deed. Next Purple album should be titled… “Shot in the Foot”.

March 22nd, 2013 at 01:01#9 The RRHOF is not a personality contest. It’s an achievement award. It should have no place for politics.
March 22nd, 2013 at 11:32cyclone @11,
Yes, that is what it should be, but in case you haven’t been paying attention, the RRHOF has no clue to Rock & Roll achieve Period. Hell, they obviously don’t even know what Rock is for that matter based on the large number of Non-Rock acts that have been awarded. Many of those Non-Rock acts haven’t been around nearly as long as Purple, a true Rock Iconic Act. Politics plays the largest part and that is obvious to the most casual observer.
I truly believe that had Purple been positive and even gracious about the nomination, it would have helped catapult towards promoting the new album and their chance for being inducted would have increased immensely and it would have snowballed into a huge amount of awareness type publicity bringing them into the current spotlight instead of just fading back under the radar as usual….That’s what get one in the RRHOF. Or you have to be dead for a while…..
Yes, Ian did have a change of heart way late in the game and stated that he would like to do it because the fans want it. Well this fan would have loved to witness the mayhem surrounding the induction of this Band and the huge array of members and ex-members that would be (or could be) involved. Would have loved to see and hear the outside musicians paying tribute to Purple and then the Purple People on that stage (whoever showed up) jamming out. Man that would have been amazing for sure.

March 23rd, 2013 at 01:57@12 Hey Tracy what is the deal with the RHOF ? Can they be nominated this year for the 2014 ? how does this crap works ?
March 24th, 2013 at 17:50al @13,
It’s an annual event. Yes, they can. Yes, since nominated for a shot this year, you would think at this point they would be a shoe-in next round. Maybe that is the legacy Bob Ezrin will give Purple. They are big. He is BIGGER. Sorry.
CheerZ?!
March 25th, 2013 at 03:38They should follow this up with an episode of ‘Storytellers’ next. There are so many platforms this band could use to get their name Back Out There. DO IT!!!!!

April 12th, 2013 at 00:48Well, just watched the episode. Mainly footage from old interviews from elsewhere except at the end when they centered on the present MK and the release of Now What. GREAT! Overall quite condensed and rushed. Needed at least another half hour to do them justice. They actually made no reference to MK5….JLT. They did mention Satriani stepping in briefly before Morse took the helm. Hard to fathom how they missed the JLT era…… If he see’s this, he will be livid.
