In case you can’t wait until Monday, audio snippets of the new Deep Purple single have been posted of a French site qobuz.com (click on ‘ecouter’ to listen).
Thanks to Martin and everybody else who reported this.

“AWSOME”!!!!!!!………Ian’s voice sounds incredible, and love the organ sound by don in ‘all the world’, maybe a touch tribute to jon. Hopes to be a purpendicular type album………maybe.
Well from what little I heard, I’m not sure I like it. Hell To Pay sounds like some 80’s hair metal song, especially in the chorus. Not sure what to think of the of the other song. Will have to get the album to make a fair judgement.
Hmmm…”All the time” has the subtle qualities of much of the Morse era…mixed emotions on it. I think the hooky-ness is there but subtle. Repeat listens needed. “Hell To Pay” is rockin’ but generic. The “gang” chorus is unusual for the Purps. I like the 70s guitar tone. Morse is okay but he just does not have the knack for riffs the way Richie did. BUT, this is a different Purple and has been for 17 years. I have accepted it and enjoy it for what it is. It’s a grown-up Purple. Gillan sounds good. Ezrin has him in a safe zone and/or captures him (and mixes) him where he does not sound strained like at times on Rapture.
The biggest thing is the “produced” sound. Kind of getting used to it but the in your face aspect is definitely not there. Maybe it will be good to hear the band in a different light.
I do hear Ezrin’s influence on this album already. He likes to “expand” band sounds. That can be good (Alice Cooper’s “Welcome to My Nightmare”) or unsettling (KISS – “Destroyer” has some odd crap like kids laughing at the beginning of “God of Thunder” and of course, Beth…ick!)
Well it is only a “Snippet” .. but.. i have to say I DO NOT LIKE what I heard.. I have to say that sadly it reminds me of Stormbringer … Oh my god.. Maybe the reason for this sound is because they are looking a space on the radio streaming (hence the “radio mix”)… I don’t know what to think.. But the “teasers” we’ve listen on the web site sounds far more exciting than this… I repeat: I DO NOT LIKE what i’ve listened.. It scares me.. The first thought that came to my mind after listening this snippets was “Wait 8 years for this?” Could be possible DP 2013 is doing an album just for RADIO streaming ?.. Well, we have to wait.. but I’m disappointed .. I thought this was going to be better
from what was featured in the clip, “All the Time In The World” makes for a candy bar tv commercial. even the sophisticated sound engineering fail to rescue it from the queasy suffocated vocals. “Hell to Pay” ejects a promising riff and once again is emasculated by whiny singing from pappy. highly unimpressive for a band that once drew admiration.
Goddammit, All the Time sounds veery veery interesting. Looks like there is a future classic album coming out this time. Gillan’s voice sounds so effortless and natural. He’s still a great singer. He should use all his range more often. Great stuff oldsters! We all welcome Deep Purple back (to the album front, I mean).
The snippet of Hell to Pay sounds quite heavy and promising. Always been amazed by Morse”s technical ability but not really by his rock writing skills, simple but effective tunes were the mainstay of purples music and still are in concert. This song could join them! Hope the rest of the album is as good
I’m afraid that we are bound for disappointment,I know people are expecting another Perfect Strangers,or Purpendicular, but it won’t be,Hell to Pay,I like the chorus, but the song itself doesn’t impress that much,All the time In the world is in the vain of Hunted and Walk on ……but hey let’s just hope.No matter, the people will be split in love it or hate it.Me personally I miss Ritchie ! lol JLT was right for one thing when he said :”Blackmore is the biggest missing ingredient of what is necessary for Deep Purple to work properly.”
That chorus on the ‘Hell To Pay’ song is woeful & has been sung before by many a mid 80’s commercial AOR band! It sort of reminds me of that aweful song from The Battle Rages On ‘one mans meat’ ! I remember someone commenting years ago about how that chorus sounded like an ACDC type of chorus! Remember it, ‘ones man’s meat, another guys aching butt, one man’s meat etc, etc!
Sad lyrics & possibly his song also for the Gillan, but all too true!
I have just finished reading a Jon Lord interview from 1994, apparently Glover wrote the lyrics for ‘The Battle Rages On’ album!
One thing that the ‘Hell to Pay’ snippet has done for me, is to revisit both the House Of Blue Light & The Battle Rages On albums.
I haven’t heard them for a decade or two, good albums! Always liked Blue Light, it has some great Gillan melodies & super Blackmore playing! Shame about the drum production, otherwise a good Deep Purple album though!
I agree entirely with MacGregor. ‘Hell to Pay’ is a cheap throwaway song and the chorus is awful. The title itself really signposts this. It has crap written all over it. Sadly, things are not much better with ‘All The Time in The World’.
I must admit that my doubts were raised when I read the hyperbole about this album being recorded with ‘no musical rules’ and we were promised ‘the elegance of Perfect Strangers’ ‘the wild freedom of Made in Japan’ and them never sounding ‘so close to the spirit of the 70s’. Unless these are the two weakest tracks – which seems unlikely given they are the two chosen as singles – then this has ‘turkey’ written all over it. They are bog standard, and just so pedestrian. Where is the creativity, the imagination or distinction that made Purple a classic band? And Gillan’s voice sounds appalling.
I wasn’t over enamoured with ‘Rapture of the Deep’, but from what I have heard so far, that sounds like a classic in comparison.
If this is the best they can do after all this time, one must ask – why they bothered?
Here we go again… Instantaneously the ‘fans’ (I use that term loosely) are ready to write off the album or even the songs based on these short sound bites? Actually they are very well produced, full sounding, deep dimensional recordings that are different (oh here we go again, Not Blackmore enough) tracks. So far so good as far as I’m concerned based on what little there is here to take from. The music sounds solid and (OH NO, DIFFERENT) by the tiny amount we have here to sample. But one thing surely does maintain consistency here… The Whiners. That’s the tune that truly needs changing. Time for some new fan blood. The old gang here are too set in their tunnel vision ways. At least Purple changes it up for us. The whiners keep singing the same old song because they want the same old sound. Is it any wonder Purple has waited this long to answer the calling of their supposed fans for a new album? Now I truly understand the title. It’s aimed toward their fan base in question to what they will more than likely complain about this time around…. Here it is, so NOW WHAT?!
I just listend to the 2 new songs… I Like it!
All the time in the world is so beautifull, I could listen to it over and over. Gillan’s voice is really touching here.
Hell To Pay… well, not so great, a bit cliche if you ask me. The guitar solo was awesome though.
I really hope the rest of the song are even better as they said with the discription: Perfect Stranger and Made in Japan.
BTW the commets on this board represent about 0.000009 % of the fans following, so if you dont like it,theres a good hance itll be a commercial success haha!!
People forget that these are just Radio edits, that means that they must be shortened to the standard time limit of 3 to 4 minutes.
Remember that they did the same with Smoke on the Water back in the 70ties where they cut Ritchie’s solo short and didn’t play the whole third verse, the radio edit of Burn is missing the whole organ solo, and same goes for You Keep on Moving where they cut the organ solo short.
Maybe people shouldn’t judge to early, these songs could sound totally different on the album, and might stil suprise you.
Try to keep an open mind, what i hear so far doesn’t sound bad at all, and i hope that it’ll only gets better.
I like what I heard, especially ‘All the time in the world’. The sound is clear and great, sounds much better than the distorted sounds from the Bananas & ROTW albums. When I listened to those samples, I was thinking Purpendicular Part II. Im fine with that. I was hoping for something more harder, more riffs. But I know Im going to enjoy Now What?! anyway…
It’s not right to judge an entire musical piece by only hearing a snippet of it. I got to admit though that the chorus of “Hell To Pay” sounds frumpy. I liked Ian’s voice because it’s so characteristic and unmistakable him. These two songs sound like they are made for air play. The older snippets are quite the opposite. Looks like we get a versatile album which draws a bow of different material and this makes it very interesting. The songwriting as a whole is completely different to the previous Morse era albums and therefore I’m really curious what we gonna get next month. The sound quality is awesome to say the least.
Hell to Pay reminds me alot of Mad Dog from HOBL and also a bit of Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye from the last album. All The Time in The World’ seems like in the same vein as Clearly Quite Absurd. I don’t mind that kind of Purple at all. When I first heard the snippets I wasn’t impressed but after listening to the full songs on youtube I didn’t mind them at all. Obviously these are Radio friendly songs so it is what it is. I am looking forward to the rest of the songs for the real deal.
Listen to complete the two songs on the radio. I left a feeling of continuity of sound monotonous and boring the Rapture. No creativity, no innovation, no power ….. just wait …..
@32 It looks like we re going to have a Gillan/Glover type/style of music,Hell to Pay is so generic and the chorus really 80 s unlike Purple. Now I’m really not looking froward to it anymore,I hope I’m wrong but I really doubt it.It is time for the band to hung it up and stick to their solo projects in the future. We don’t need to hear the whole song to understand how cliched and bad that song is.I hope we didn’t have to wait 8 years for a song like Hell to Pay and the commercial ballad All the time in the world !
@31 Hey Priest which song from 70’s bud? That’s got “hair bands from 80’s written all over it ” !
@Mc Gregor I was cranking up on my ipod The house of Blue light and there’s some great songs in it,Ritchie is all over the album, especially on Spanish Archer and Strange ways,There’s something lacking overall in the album….I don’t know maybe the production is to 80 and not soo much Hammond from Jon \,mostly programming and Synth, but I still like it,I’m a sucker for that Blackmore sound !
I have to be honest,i’m so bitterly disappointed with what i’ve heard so far,is this really the best they can do after nearly EIGHT YEARS?!I totally agree with al @47 about Hell to Pay,so basic,a local pub band could write it in 5 minutes! All the time in the world is just boring and too poppy, and they’ve had that long to write it!Not a good start,i sincerely hope the rest of the album is far better than this. The only plus is that Ian Gillan still sounds great, but this is not the Deep Purple we all know and love.A cross between Perfect Strangers and Made in Japan?Couldn’t be further from the truth if these two tracks are anything to go by.I think any die hard Deep Purple fan like myself will agree with me if they’re honest.
Please, can we all forget about the “cross between Perfect Strangers and Made in Japan” thing? That’s just marketing bullshit from the record company. Just let it go.
Ok it’s not a cross between MIJ and PS. But All the Time in The World is a really good song. Slow to medium paced rocket. Plusses:
Gillan sounds fantastic. Airey’s keyboard work is spot on for the song. Nicely understated solo from Morse….
This song remains me of a laid back Loosen My Strings. Not earth shattering or fantastic but its really a good song that would get airplay on some AOR stations if properly promoted. It sounds like a song designed for airplay without the cloying Haunted nonsense.
I like it…. Click the link to decide for yourself.
No,it certainly isn’t earth shattering or fantastic, but Deep Purple at their best certainly are,and this is a million miles from that.I was hoping for an In Rock mark 2,but that’ll never happen now. Most of Deep Purple’s ballads and slower tracks are great, but this is too lame and powder puff.I just hope the rest of the album is proper heavy rock with plenty of amazing solos, but i won’t hold my breath.
que lastima me da, tenia mucha esperanza de que vuelvan con un buen rock-clasico-duro como en los 70s y 80s, pero esto ya es una joda!! la verdad sin comentarios a este rock-pop!! que les pasa señores despiertense!!!
@ Pete
Let’s just hope man that the rest of the music is better quality! I agree the song All the time…..is catchy and Ian sounds good and has no problems with this semi tempo ballad, very similar to Clearly Quite absurd, and Walk on,but we were left for more with those albums, and yes for die hard fans like us who been following this band for eternity,we expect that quality with what could be their last album.Yes we accepted the fact that Blackmore wasn’t coming back and done with rock in general, but We have had only one good album Purpendicular with Steve! Ezrin is good and I’m pretty sure his mixing has helped Ian’s voice in the end and the final product is better quality than the last dreadful “sound of wall” ROTD,but he cannot change the quality of the songs and he is not the writer !
@33 Hey Tracy always putting things in Perspective even when they suck, not this album though bro but in general! I guess on thing is for sure but this is my opinion though, that haven’t given us any quality since Purpendicular album even though like you said the band is still changing.ain’t that a bitch ! lol I guess I’m a stuck up fan yearning for that thick Fender sound! no offense to the mighty Steve !
Wow,All The Time In The World is certainly no rocker,is it ?!
No riff,no keyboard solo,a 2o second solo from Steve…maybe these were hacked in the radio edit ??
I’d honestly have no problem with the tune if it was an IG solo single. ( In fact,it would’ve fit comfortably on One Eye To Morocco ). It can’t stand next to any of Purpendicular’s mid-tempo songs,as tempting as it may be to seek comparisons to the Morse era’s masterwork.
After a 7 year wait,I’m left hugely disappointed and wondering….Now What ?!
Just what is Purple? It certainly is not a preconceived idea of heavy rock anymore and hasn’t been for years, as all Marques of this band have brought out individual visions of their own soundscape. As a fan of nearly forty years, everything is appreciated, from their musicianship to their great live performances. Music is not a formula, it is music and storytelling and each individual whom is listening gleans something from it. A real Purple fan knows this….their music has always been challenging and different, look at the risks they took in 69, making Lord’s vision a reality. Look at the change in direction in 73 when Hughes brought in groove and Coverdale’s soulful voice added another dimension. The even JLT, a more poppier version, but Slave and Masters still has some great songs on it…you can’t live in the past, accept for Blackmore and his merry minstrels!!!!
al @ 48 – Yes, I have always sort of liked Blue Light more than Perfect Strangers for overall song quality. It is poorly produced, especially the bottom end drums & bass etc! As excited as I was when the reunion in 1984 was announced & a new album & starting their world tour in Australia, I was a little disappointed in the new album, excepting a few songs of course! Blue Light was a stronger album for me! I listened to it last night for the first time probably since the 90’s & it blew me away! That to me is always a good sign of the strength of an album! Decades later it still does it for me! Blackmore is all over it, brilliant playing which great feel & guitar sounds also & Gillan’s vocals are very melodic indeed! Cheers!
Thanks for the link Chip. I will give this 10-15 listens before I make up my mind!
Pete, #50, you might want to remember that “Anyone’s Daughter” was the single from Fireball and that, as I understand, the music press went WTF? because of it.
Why does it have to be same as In Rock? There is nothing wrong with a new style. I like the fact that they can make new music. Better then Status Quo who still beat the same old chords.
If you dont like dont buy it and dont go yo concerts. Stay at home and listen to the old stuff.
Just listened to the full ATTITW (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxPhHRDJ4TM). It is a beautiful song, Gillan does a great job and HEY, isn’t this better and more innovative than the last Rolling Stones’ attempt?
Embarrassing reaction on here! Hang your heads in shame!! You’re not music fans and certainly don’t understand Purple if you’re casting aspersions on the whole song let alone the whole album from these snippets!
@48 You don’t need to hear the whole song to know it’s cliched etc?! I’ve heard the whole song (I won’t be telling you where to find it online!) and it’s anything but cliched!
Ouvi as musicas inteiras.
Should I have judged HOB soley on Call of the Wild? Lets hear the rest of the album before anyone else throws themselves off the bridge. Jimi Hendrix once said thre’s nothing wrong with hearing your song on a jukebox. All The Time In The World is a really good song for what it is….if the whole album sounds like that…..I’d be dissapointed too…..
But I like an alblum to have different sounding songs. If I wanted every song to be the same I could just go out and by and Ac/DC record.
Corky (the one who mixed the album) made two mistakes in my opinion…one is what you (or someone here) reported about those words on ATTITW that are too low on volume and the other is the guitar solo on HTP which has the same problem…
…and about song’s structures, which depend by Purple themselves, I would have added on HTP few more notes/little instrumental passage after the guitar solo, at the end of it, and than following the song with the bridge, not with another verse…That would have worked better in my opinion…
…while for ATTITW I would haven’t put on the song those unmelodic choruses after the verses…that broke the melody of the song in my opinion…but even the refrain could have benn better and more melodic in the verses’ vein…those kind of things happen often with lasts DP incarnation…(I’m thinkin’ for example to ‘picture of innocence’)
I love how folks here use the term…. ‘Ran out of ideas’ regarding Purple’s latest music offerings. Yet they have been putting out songs that sound nothing like prior offerings. Every album is entirely different from each other. Ironically, these same folks bitching about them ‘running out of ideas’, are all wanting the same old music from the past. ‘In Rock’ era. It’s obvious that Purple is constantly changing and actually producing a large variety of music while these ‘fans’ are stuck on rewind…….
Maybe they should have done a retread of Smoke on the Water. With a rappers in the middle of the song instead of the guitar solo. SOW 2013 Edit featuring Jay Zee and Lil Wayne.
Some of the comments on this thread are as ridiculous as the last 2 sentences I wrote. The release a mid-tempo tune as their single and some are sounding the horn like we are having the zombie apocolypse.
@65 Let’s just wait for the album, but I don’t like Hell to pay and All the things….is fit for solo IG album.I guess at this point we cannot criticize JLT and Slaves and Masters with all the pop-rock songs(DOING IT TONIGHT !) CMON.Every one has different taste and opinions anyway!
Gillan sounds amazing. I’ve been singing the chorus for three days now. The song stands alone, but I imagine it fits nicely in the context of the album as a whole.
Tracey @ 70 – What, do you have trouble understanding the merry go round philosophy? The same melody just keeps on turning, really, what “new” ideas do we hear in today’s music? The same chords, rhythms & melodies turned around, played backwards even, whoa, better be careful there, there may be a dark & sinister message encrypted in the song somewhere! Dream on dreamers! The river has run dry!
al @ 74 – Yes, I hope they do remix HOB, it is there strongest album since the 70’s in my book! I also like TBRO more than PS, much stronger songs there as well, except for ‘one mans meat’ of course, but being the last song on that album, it doesn’t get in the way!
I always felt that production and 80’s style playing knocked HOBL down and TBRO was done in strange way.
Even the title song, one of my faves actually, was not the best version that could have been.
As with Perfect Strangers(the song) the live version had better instrumental work outs.
I really think Gillan is talking out of his arse so often :
In 1984 he said that long stretched songs were dated.
Now he embraces that stretch out idea again.
Maybe he finally relises that that way he can grasp for breat a bit longer during the now appearantly preferred experimentation?
What I d like to say : If he really changed his mind he could finally deliver a Strangeways live rendition.
Tracy @ 70 & others – The absurd & ridiculous comments assuming some people “want” music from the past, presented today, with different equipment & from different musicians is anal indeed! The music from the past is already there, it cannot be reproduced, so why the silly comparison! It is some peoples fear that the past refuses to go away perhaps, so of course some people compare, actually a lot of people do compare to the past in many things in life, for whatever reason! Regarding the so called ‘large variety of music’, 4 albums to date in 17 years, not a lot of music really is it! Deep Purple from 1984 until 1993 released 4 albums, that is 9 years. One new album now about to be released makes it 5 albums in 18 years! Tracy himself has bitched & moaned & whinged & been negative about this many times, as he recently confirmed! Therefore, where is the ‘large variety of music”? We would have to go into ‘rewind’ to find a large variety of music’, damm it, there I go again, mentioning the past, why do people keep doing that! Forget the past, move forward! Nostalgia eh, don’t you just love it at certain times, that warm fuzzy feeling of bliss, reminiscing & loving the magic that circled us everywhere! Woe is me!
Are you for real? Both tracks (short versions mind you) sound nothing like their past efforts. You are running on the tracks of the crazy train. Might not be your cup of tea, but these 2 tracks thus far are quite different from prior Purple offerings. Like it or not. Plus they are both edited versions. We have a lot of music to listen to on this new album. Too bad you have made up your mind and won’t bother buying or listening to the rest of the tracks. Why would you waste your time? Lady Gaga has a new album out much different and probably appealing to your liking. I recommend you go to her site and ‘critique’ her new offering.
Tracy @ 79 – Thanks for making that decision for me, that I have made up my mind & won’t bother buying or listening to the rest of the tracks! I feel so much pressure has just been taken away from me now! Phew, the stress of not knowing as to whether I would listen or not listen to new music, it is almost unbearable! So thank you again Tracy for relieving me of that burden! As to hearing or not hearing repeated cycles in melodies, rhythms or song structure, that is for the individual listener. It is pointless from my perspective to even attempt to describe that in relation to someone else, who is tone deaf perhaps! Maybe I hear it differently to other people, maybe I have listened to too much music over the decades! Maybe I am not so biased in my adulation of the so called ‘heroes’ that Tracy often refers to. They are not heroes, they are simply human beings playing music & getting on with their lives! Hero worship is dangerous indeed!
@ Oh cmon Tracy I respect your opinions, even though wee might have different opinions and taste about music and periods, granted we haven’t gotten the whole album, but from these two songs, one snippet and one full you cannot see the similarity the same melody and same vein of all the time in the world with Walk on,Hunted and Clearly Quite absurd ? Quite honestly you don’t think that regardless of the adding of two great musicians like Don and Steve, this is a band of Gillan/Glover,no matter what they say in the interviews,it is all Gillan/Glover ideas, and concept and sound ? So if we make a critique, and we have to go and listen to Lady Gaga and all that crap, cause we don’t understand the music of Deep Purple ? lol .
Cheers
37 songs from the ’84-’93 era albums. 61 songs from the ’95-2013 era. Plenty of ‘variety’ of music I’d say….
As for the ‘past’… I am not the one wishing for the PAST. I don’t expect them to do another ‘In Rock’. On the contrary. I like the present Purple. That’s what all those Past Albums are for. Go back and listen to your hearts content. Put them on ‘loop play’. Be Happy!!!
One more thing. I obviously love the past albums. Where the hell do you think I came in at? 1968 with HUSH. I’m a Blackmore fanatic. I’m a Purple fanatic. Been one since ’68. When I want ‘In Rock’ Purple, I put in the ‘In Rock’ CD. When I want ‘Burn’ Purple, I put in the ‘Burn’ CD. When I want ‘Present’ Purple, I’ll put in ‘Now What’ after April 29th. When I want ‘Present’ Blackmore, I put in ‘Blackmore’s Night’. Weird huh???
Having heard the radio edit in full now of Hell to Play (just over 3:30mins) I am more than happy to vote with my wallet and buy the album! It’s sure to be great in concert and I think will be a mainstay of their set for years to come, not just for this coming tour, which in my opinion is the test of a great song
@ 77 Don’t know what you’re on about here, it’s not “heavy metal” no, but it’s a great song. It’s sound to have criticism but some of you here seem to be just waiting for the opportunity to slag the band..?
Tracy @ 84 – I would never question or doubt your Purple history & I have always respected that loyal 5 decades of you following Purple. It just seems to be a passionate defending of the Morse era from you & that is good to see. But not all people compare or want the past to re appear, they have moved on & are simply commenting on new music or current concerts etc, etc! It is all Purple, Cheers!
Uptill now I dont get the impression the teasers bring new sounds at all.
I also hear echoes from older DP stuff like Walk On and ROTD album.
Hell To pay instrumentally does not give us different type of guitarwork/soli from Morse and the rest could easily have been 80’s drivel.
Again, I have heard a small portion of the new album.
I have to admit after a listening maybe 5 times several things keep lingering on in my head.
@1 agree…. some what like Tom Petty… melody wise. If it was a Tom Petty song you could bet it would get awesome radio play and probably hit the top ten. Having the DP logo means us fans will probably only hear about the new tunes.
Having now heard the radio edit of Hell to Pay,i’m liking it a lot more. The guitar solo and keyboard work are great, classic Deep Purple, and Ian Gillan is still the best singer in the world. Not an amazing track overall, but acceptable.
I get amused by people who complain about Purple playing the same old songs in concert often being the same people who complain when the band explores new directions. Critics have been blasting Deep Purple for 45 years and, God bless ’em, they’ve outlasted them all! Power to the Purple!!
Even top athletes get older but they still know how to do it even though when they sometimes can’t. On every concert or recording it’s an adventure (at least for them) to find out about that. The past is the past and it’s only interesting where to go from here and now. I’m glad and thankful to look up to them and learn how to play even though my absolute hero has left the building on July 16th last year. He was one of a kind I’m afraid we won’t get ever again. There are many musicians around the world who would be proud to come anywhere close to that. Please show a little appreciation!
not bad with the first hearing, first song a mid tempo sound like Tom Petty
March 9th, 2013 at 22:48“AWSOME”!!!!!!!………Ian’s voice sounds incredible, and love the organ sound by don in ‘all the world’, maybe a touch tribute to jon. Hopes to be a purpendicular type album………maybe.
March 9th, 2013 at 23:15Well from what little I heard, I’m not sure I like it. Hell To Pay sounds like some 80’s hair metal song, especially in the chorus. Not sure what to think of the of the other song. Will have to get the album to make a fair judgement.
March 9th, 2013 at 23:24Hmmm…”All the time” has the subtle qualities of much of the Morse era…mixed emotions on it.
March 9th, 2013 at 23:45Darn it, I cant listen to them because I’m in Australia 🙁
March 10th, 2013 at 00:28Well it is only a “Snippet” .. but.. i have to say I DO NOT LIKE what I heard..
March 10th, 2013 at 00:49Got to the clips with this link http://player.qobuz.com/#!/album/4029759086932
March 10th, 2013 at 01:02there’re 2 new songs, and no surprising yet.
March 10th, 2013 at 01:33What anyone can really seem to conclude here would be hard to believe a word of.
March 10th, 2013 at 01:55Sounds- CLEAR, CLEAN, FRESH………………………gotta hear more…….can’t freakin wait
March 10th, 2013 at 04:02Right you can now have listen to 2 samples from the forthcoming album, go direct to the heavy metal site bravewords and check it out!!
March 10th, 2013 at 05:35AH¨That’s really frustrating, to hear so little! My advice: don’t got there!
March 10th, 2013 at 07:01from what was featured in the clip, “All the Time In The World” makes for a candy bar tv commercial. even the sophisticated sound engineering fail to rescue it from the queasy suffocated vocals. “Hell to Pay” ejects a promising riff and once again is emasculated by whiny singing from pappy. highly unimpressive for a band that once drew admiration.
March 10th, 2013 at 07:35That`s awful. Pain in my ears. The first two snippets with much more Quality.
March 10th, 2013 at 09:08I hope there was 4-5 more Songs with more power and Quality.
Just wait.
Sounds good to me, can’t wait till the CD comes out.
March 10th, 2013 at 09:15Oh ohhhh … 🙁 🙁 🙁
I have just heared the two new songs.
At first: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD
A very commercial soft song.
It sounded very good but it is not Deep Purple like I know and that I have awaited.
The second: HELL TO PAY
A lot better but always the same like the first – very commercial, a bit harder but not Deep Purple like, more Bon Jovi …
Is like Deep Purple after they have turned off a washing machine with the fabric softener program …
I hope, the other songs
I hope this songs will be Deep Purple like and not so commercial 🙁
I wanna hear HARD ROCK & ROCK´N´ROLL
LLR´n´R
kraatzy
March 10th, 2013 at 10:06First track: a bit boring (but thankfully with a Hammond).
Second track: an almost eighties’ hair metal chorus.
But these are my vry first imprssions.
Highway Star sounds pretty good though.
March 10th, 2013 at 10:53Oh my god ! This is it ! Deep Purple is back and it rocks !
March 10th, 2013 at 11:12Can’t wait to hear the full album !
Oh Dear?!
March 10th, 2013 at 11:16Well – have just been there. Sounds fine – just NOT like Deep Purple. I hope rest of the CD is rock.
March 10th, 2013 at 11:37I wonder what the idea is for this CD.
March 10th, 2013 at 12:35?! sounds great
March 10th, 2013 at 14:16I like what I heard! Mixed much better than anything on ROTD.
March 10th, 2013 at 15:50I like it… completely opposite from the previous two samples but its all good.
March 10th, 2013 at 18:27Interesting enough to keep the flame going..!
March 10th, 2013 at 19:30The snippet of Hell to Pay sounds quite heavy and promising. Always been amazed by Morse”s technical ability but not really by his rock writing skills, simple but effective tunes were the mainstay of purples music and still are in concert. This song could join them! Hope the rest of the album is as good
March 10th, 2013 at 20:13I’m afraid that we are bound for disappointment,I know people are expecting another Perfect Strangers,or Purpendicular, but it won’t be,Hell to Pay,I like the chorus, but the song itself doesn’t impress that much,All the time In the world is in the vain of Hunted and Walk on ……but hey let’s just hope.No matter, the people will be split in love it or hate it.Me personally I miss Ritchie ! lol JLT was right for one thing when he said :”Blackmore is the biggest missing ingredient of what is necessary for Deep Purple to work properly.”
March 11th, 2013 at 00:28Well, now that Xavier has spoken, I guess I’ll have to enjoy the record with the rest of the unwashed masses.
March 11th, 2013 at 01:20That chorus on the ‘Hell To Pay’ song is woeful & has been sung before by many a mid 80’s commercial AOR band!
March 11th, 2013 at 05:21Sad lyrics & possibly his song also for the Gillan, but all too true!
I have just finished reading a Jon Lord interview from 1994, apparently Glover wrote the lyrics for ‘The Battle Rages On’ album!
March 11th, 2013 at 10:49One thing that the ‘Hell to Pay’ snippet has done for me, is to revisit both the House Of Blue Light & The Battle Rages On albums.
I haven’t heard them for a decade or two, good albums! Always liked Blue Light, it has some great Gillan melodies & super Blackmore playing! Shame about the drum production, otherwise a good Deep Purple album though!
The instrumental interlude in Hell To Pay reminds me of an older DP track………
March 11th, 2013 at 13:35I agree entirely with MacGregor.
Please Deep Purple prove me wrong…
March 11th, 2013 at 13:58Here we go again… Instantaneously the ‘fans’ (I use that term loosely) are ready to write off the album or even the songs based on these short sound bites?
CheerZ?!
March 11th, 2013 at 14:25Calm down purple people !? Snippets mean heehaw !? Have faith last chance saloon for the boys !?!?!?!
March 11th, 2013 at 14:27I just listend to the 2 new songs… I Like it!
What Now!? Well wait for the album to come out
March 11th, 2013 at 14:32how can you judge a song/album on 40 secs… jesus. get a grip1
March 11th, 2013 at 15:20gillan sounds awful? Please!!!
March 11th, 2013 at 15:21BTW the commets on this board represent about 0.000009 % of the fans following, so if you dont like it,theres a good hance itll be a commercial success haha!!
March 11th, 2013 at 15:23People forget that these are just Radio edits, that means that they must be shortened to the standard time limit of 3 to 4 minutes.
March 11th, 2013 at 16:26Remember that they did the same with Smoke on the Water back in the 70ties where they cut Ritchie’s solo short and didn’t play the whole third verse, the radio edit of Burn is missing the whole organ solo, and same goes for You Keep on Moving where they cut the organ solo short.
Maybe people shouldn’t judge to early, these songs could sound totally different on the album, and might stil suprise you.
Try to keep an open mind, what i hear so far doesn’t sound bad at all, and i hope that it’ll only gets better.
You will be proven wrong.
If Bon Jovi wrote lyrics to a song called “Hell to Pay” then yes, crap written all over it.
But if Gillan wrote the lyrics I’m betting it’ll be a different story.
Not a fan of the choir effort on the chorus.
Reminded me of Def Leppard, etc. But maybe it’ll grow on me.
The balled was great. Very Walk On.
March 11th, 2013 at 16:49I like what I heard, especially ‘All the time in the world’. The sound is clear and great, sounds much better than the distorted sounds from the Bananas & ROTW albums. When I listened to those samples, I was thinking Purpendicular Part II. Im fine with that. I was hoping for something more harder, more riffs. But I know Im going to enjoy Now What?! anyway…
March 11th, 2013 at 17:38It’s not right to judge an entire musical piece by only hearing a snippet of it.
March 11th, 2013 at 17:54I heard the “All the Time” track…fantastic! Very melodious.
March 11th, 2013 at 18:04“All The Time in The World” ….. Tom Petty??, I hope the others songs….will be more hard rock!!!
March 11th, 2013 at 18:25Hell to Pay reminds me alot of Mad Dog from HOBL and also a bit of Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye from the last album.
March 11th, 2013 at 18:32http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxPhHRDJ4TM
here is the full song…..All the time in the world.
March 11th, 2013 at 18:51Listen to complete the two songs on the radio. I left a feeling of continuity of sound monotonous and boring the Rapture. No creativity, no innovation, no power ….. just wait …..
March 11th, 2013 at 19:02@32 It looks like we re going to have a Gillan/Glover type/style of music,Hell to Pay is so generic and the chorus really 80 s unlike Purple.
March 11th, 2013 at 19:08@31 Hey Priest which song from 70’s bud?
March 11th, 2013 at 22:33Please, can we all forget about the “cross between Perfect Strangers and Made in Japan” thing? That’s just marketing bullshit from the record company. Just let it go.
March 11th, 2013 at 22:39http://www.metalunderground.com/news/details.cfm?newsid=89913
March 11th, 2013 at 22:5538
I still have to see the day that a major media explosion about the forth coming album will appear.
I suppose that only happens with AC DC, Bowie, and who else……
I do remember when that ep in 93 came out, that sampler with Anya.
All shortened versions, I think.
I played it to death : )
March 11th, 2013 at 23:15No,it certainly isn’t earth shattering or fantastic, but Deep Purple at their best certainly are,and this is a million miles from that.I was hoping for an In Rock mark 2,but that’ll never happen now. Most of Deep Purple’s ballads and slower tracks are great, but this is too lame and powder puff.I just hope the rest of the album is proper heavy rock with plenty of amazing solos, but i won’t hold my breath.
March 12th, 2013 at 00:53@ Pete
March 12th, 2013 at 00:56Let’s just hope man that the rest of the music is better quality!
March 12th, 2013 at 02:17Wow,All The Time In The World is certainly no rocker,is it ?!
March 12th, 2013 at 03:06No riff,no keyboard solo,a 2o second solo from Steve…maybe these were hacked in the radio edit ??
March 12th, 2013 at 06:08I like it! Better than no album!
March 12th, 2013 at 07:32al @ 48 – Yes, I have always sort of liked Blue Light more than Perfect Strangers for overall song quality. Cheers!
March 12th, 2013 at 07:34Thanks for the link Chip. I will give this 10-15 listens before I make up my mind!
Pete, #50, you might want to remember that “Anyone’s Daughter” was the single from Fireball and that, as I understand, the music press went WTF? because of it.
March 12th, 2013 at 07:42They have wasted all the time in the world.
Good pop-song, not Deep Purple at all. Ah, why did I ever criticized Slaves and Masters…
Hopefully the rest will be better.
March 12th, 2013 at 08:11Why does it have to be same as In Rock? There is nothing wrong with a new style. I like the fact that they can make new music. Better then Status Quo who still beat the same old chords.
March 12th, 2013 at 08:22If you dont like dont buy it and dont go yo concerts.
March 12th, 2013 at 09:14Embarrassing reaction on here!
March 12th, 2013 at 09:16Any idea where I can pre-order the 7″ single ?
March 12th, 2013 at 12:05Ouvi as musicas inteiras.
March 12th, 2013 at 13:25Should I have judged HOB soley on Call of the Wild? Lets hear the rest of the album before anyone else throws themselves off the bridge. Jimi Hendrix once said thre’s nothing wrong with hearing your song on a jukebox. All The Time In The World is a really good song for what it is….if the whole album sounds like that…..I’d be dissapointed too…..
But I like an alblum to have different sounding songs. If I wanted every song to be the same I could just go out and by and Ac/DC record.
March 12th, 2013 at 13:27Corky (the one who mixed the album) made two mistakes in my opinion…one is what you (or someone here) reported about those words on ATTITW that are too low on volume and the other is the guitar solo on HTP which has the same problem…
March 12th, 2013 at 13:33…and about song’s structures, which depend by Purple themselves, I would have added on HTP few more notes/little instrumental passage after the guitar solo, at the end of it, and than following the song with the bridge, not with another verse…That would have worked better in my opinion…
CheerZ?!
March 12th, 2013 at 14:27Maybe they should have done a retread of Smoke on the Water.
March 12th, 2013 at 14:46I have some blunt Tree climbing Spikes, if anyone wants to stab their heart now to avoid future pain!
March 12th, 2013 at 14:59@65 Let’s just wait for the album, but I don’t like Hell to pay and All the things….is fit for solo IG album.I guess at this point we cannot criticize JLT and Slaves and Masters with all the pop-rock songs(DOING IT TONIGHT !) CMON.Every one has different taste and opinions anyway!
March 12th, 2013 at 16:40@Mc Gregor
March 12th, 2013 at 16:43Hey I’m surprised they haven’t remastered and remixed this albums by Roger properly, hopefully in the future !
Gillan sounds amazing. I’ve been singing the chorus for three days now. The song stands alone, but I imagine it fits nicely in the context of the album as a whole.
March 12th, 2013 at 16:50Tracey @ 70 – What, do you have trouble understanding the merry go round philosophy? The same melody just keeps on turning, really, what “new” ideas do we hear in today’s music? The same chords, rhythms & melodies turned around, played backwards even, whoa, better be careful there, there may be a dark & sinister message encrypted in the song somewhere! Dream on dreamers! The river has run dry!
March 12th, 2013 at 21:17al @ 74 – Yes, I hope they do remix HOB, it is there strongest album since the 70’s in my book! I also like TBRO more than PS, much stronger songs there as well, except for ‘one mans meat’ of course, but being the last song on that album, it doesn’t get in the way!
What a shame!!!Its one of the bad DP song of alltime
March 12th, 2013 at 22:0276
I agree wholeheartedly on those 2 albums.
Love songs like that.
March 12th, 2013 at 23:00Tracy @ 70 & others – The absurd & ridiculous comments assuming some people “want” music from the past, presented today, with different equipment & from different musicians is anal indeed! Woe is me!
March 12th, 2013 at 23:0576,
Are you for real? Both tracks (short versions mind you) sound nothing like their past efforts. You are running on the tracks of the crazy train. Might not be your cup of tea, but these 2 tracks thus far are quite different from prior Purple offerings. Like it or not. Plus they are both edited versions. We have a lot of music to listen to on this new album. Too bad you have made up your mind and won’t bother buying or listening to the rest of the tracks. Why would you waste your time? Lady Gaga has a new album out much different and probably appealing to your liking. I recommend you go to her site and ‘critique’ her new offering.
CheerZ?!
Go Purple!!!!
CheerZ?!
March 12th, 2013 at 23:32Tracy @ 79 – Thanks for making that decision for me, that I have made up my mind & won’t bother buying or listening to the rest of the tracks!
March 13th, 2013 at 00:53@ Oh cmon Tracy I respect your opinions, even though wee might have different opinions and taste about music and periods, granted we haven’t gotten the whole album, but from these two songs, one snippet and one full you cannot see the similarity the same melody and same vein of all the time in the world with Walk on,Hunted and Clearly Quite absurd ? Quite honestly you don’t think that regardless of the adding of two great musicians like Don and Steve, this is a band of Gillan/Glover,no matter what they say in the interviews,it is all Gillan/Glover ideas, and concept and sound ? So if we make a critique, and we have to go and listen to Lady Gaga and all that crap, cause we don’t understand the music of Deep Purple ? lol .
March 13th, 2013 at 01:21Cheers
@78,
37 songs from the ’84-’93 era albums.
Be Happy!!!

March 13th, 2013 at 02:16One more thing.

March 13th, 2013 at 02:33Having heard the radio edit in full now of Hell to Play (just over 3:30mins) I am more than happy to vote with my wallet and buy the album! It’s sure to be great in concert and I think will be a mainstay of their set for years to come, not just for this coming tour, which in my opinion is the test of a great song
March 13th, 2013 at 08:04@ 77 Don’t know what you’re on about here, it’s not “heavy metal” no, but it’s a great song. It’s sound to have criticism but some of you here seem to be just waiting for the opportunity to slag the band..?
March 13th, 2013 at 08:35Tracy @ 84 – I would never question or doubt your Purple history & I have always respected that loyal 5 decades of you following Purple. It just seems to be a passionate defending of the Morse era from you & that is good to see. But not all people compare or want the past to re appear, they have moved on & are simply commenting on new music or current concerts etc, etc! It is all Purple, Cheers!

March 13th, 2013 at 09:15Uptill now I dont get the impression the teasers bring new sounds at all.
March 13th, 2013 at 09:45@1 agree…. some what like Tom Petty… melody wise. If it was a Tom Petty song you could bet it would get awesome radio play and probably hit the top ten. Having the DP logo means us fans will probably only hear about the new tunes.
March 13th, 2013 at 13:07Having now heard the radio edit of Hell to Pay,i’m liking it a lot more. The guitar solo and keyboard work are great, classic Deep Purple, and Ian Gillan is still the best singer in the world. Not an amazing track overall, but acceptable.
March 14th, 2013 at 20:50I get amused by people who complain about Purple playing the same old songs in concert often being the same people who complain when the band explores new directions. Critics have been blasting Deep Purple for 45 years and, God bless ’em, they’ve outlasted them all! Power to the Purple!!
March 14th, 2013 at 23:09To the disappointed lads:
Even top athletes get older but they still know how to do it even though when they sometimes can’t. On every concert or recording it’s an adventure (at least for them) to find out about that. The past is the past and it’s only interesting where to go from here and now. I’m glad and thankful to look up to them and learn how to play even though my absolute hero has left the building on July 16th last year. He was one of a kind I’m afraid we won’t get ever again. There are many musicians around the world who would be proud to come anywhere close to that. Please show a little appreciation!
Thank you for the new album, Deep Purple!
