Don Airey & Friends on tour
Don Airey & Friends hit the road the week of 13th September playing 14 shows in Europe promoting Don’s latest solo album All Out (full details in our calendar).
There have been some lineup changes in the touring band. The band now consists of Don on Hammond and keyboards, Rob Harris (Jamiroquai) on guitar, bass duties are taken by Alex Meadows (Tom Jones, Electrasy), and Carl Sentance (Persian Risk, Krokus) is on vocals. The new face is Tim Brown (Aynsley Lister band), who handles the drums and BVs.
They’ll be playing a selection of tracks from All Out plus a sprinkling of classics from Don’s career.
Thanks to Nathan Sage for the info.
Waiting for a concert in Israel laso!
Don is a best replacement for Jon Lord in DP.
Again- waiting for another DP / Don solo gig in Cesaria!

September 7th, 2012 at 07:23Don should release a live album.
September 7th, 2012 at 13:15Some DP “fans” say that Don is just a “copycat”, and that he hasn’t got his own style!?! What a load of bollocs!!!!! Don was, and is, one of the inventors of the “HardRockHammond”, and he has done GREAT musical things during his life. You’re right, he’s not Jon Lord, and in my world that’s a good thing. Why replace someone with exactly the same? Airey’s got his own style, and it suits Purple very, very well. Sure, he plays the well known riffs and soloes first recorded by Lord, but if he didn’t do that the same people who calls him a copycat would’ve said that “oh, he doesen’t play it right”. Same with Steve. The band didn’t want a Blackmore copycat, and they didn’t get one. What would the critics have said if they brought in fx Malmsteen to copy Blackmores style? The situation they’re in is more like “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”. I’m just feckin’ happy they’re still around, enjoying themselves, makin’ new music, enjoying touring etc. etc. I mean, how great is that??? At their age? No matter what, they’re one of the best hard rock bands out there today, and that should tell us something about todays musicscene!!!
Keep on truckin’ lads!!!

September 12th, 2012 at 23:12Talking about copy cats:
The Wolff; relatively young Dutch retro outfit was guest again in programme De Wereld Draait Door tonight
I love them but I suppose they are hardly original
This episode they got to play again and the guitarplayer wore a Blackmore anno BURN big black hat.
A bit later on someone was interviewed about Led Zeppelin
Appearently they are going to release a DVD with the reunionshow from 2007 in the O 2
When the host; he should know better really; suggested De Wolff have a lot in common zith LZ the guest rightfully said they are more to Deep Purple because of the organ
So in all a lot of heavy rock and DP references

September 14th, 2012 at 20:09NICK SIMPER interview which I encountered today.
It saddens me a lot to hear him like that.
And I feel kinda ashamed that I could not make it yesterday in Zoetermeer.
For many months I was looking forward meeting this lovely man and one of the founders of Deep Purple .
But I did not feel so well.
Hopefully the show did turn out well for him and Don.
I salute you Nick.
