Wacken Open Air 2013
One of the biggest (if not the biggest) heavy metal festivals in the world — Wacken Open Air — has just concluded this year run and has announced that next year lineup will include a headlining performance by Deep Purple. In 2013 the festival will run on the weekend of August 1-3. Weekend passes are already on sale.
The exact day when the band will perform at Wacken has not been confirmed yet and will be posted in our calendar as soon as it’s available.
Thanks to Marco Kupfer for the info.

August 7th, 2012 at 22:42I think this might be the end of the line with the great ( Deep Purple ) , maybe they get all the ex-members to perfom and go out with a blast!, get your tickets for this one….should be awsome!
August 7th, 2012 at 22:58It’s good to hear they get the chance to headline the biggest metal event in Europe, but the slogan reads it already.
August 8th, 2012 at 06:23It’s a metal event, and i really don’t know how espacially nowadays Deep Purple, can give the right energie of.
Maby if they did a show with the power, passion and energie of the 70ties, they would’ve fit the bill.
Deep Purple isn’t metal, in the 80ties they came close, but they never where.
I hope that they know what they’re doing.
I would guess this is just the first of several European festival announcements for the band this year. Sweden Rock etc. will probably follow.
August 8th, 2012 at 06:24good news..hope for a dvd…I love Purple shows with big crowd…my favourite is the ‘vielles charreux’ 2005
August 8th, 2012 at 11:33Thunderhawk 4#: You are so right. I will love to see them headlining, but not this festival. Could be Roskilde Festival in Denmark, but not a metal festival.
August 8th, 2012 at 21:34it´s great! Deep Purple is not a heavy metal band, but their perfomance shows the origin of hard rock or heavy metal! They sounds so heavy as I never have been heard before. Deep Purple will rocks W.O.A. Yeah!!!!
August 9th, 2012 at 20:21great news!!

August 10th, 2012 at 19:18I think they will have no problem in the festival, Thunderhawk, many of the metal fans know how much they have given to the metal nowadays! Cheers to Germany from México!
you can’t imagine reaction of public! I was there when was the anounce of 2013 and then we heard Smoke… and there be a photo of the band and all the infield was screaming as hell! 🙂
August 11th, 2012 at 06:30will be there, see ya on Deep purple, rain or shine 🙂
Remember Purple Headlined at Cal Jam 1974. And for those who were there LIKE ME Black Sabbath was the band before them. Whether some people want to believe it or not Purple was easily one of the heaviest bands EVER. Made In Japan was from the beginning to the end one of the most intense and furious albums ever done period. Yeah, without our Dear Jon and TMIB they may not be as heavy but they will be killer. HAPPY BIRTHDAY IAN.
August 19th, 2012 at 04:06HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN to Ian Gillan
