Morse and JLT in Supertramp tribute
Steve Morse and Joe Lynn Turner both took part in the Supertramp tribute album Songs Of The Century due for release on August 14 via Cleopatra Records. Steve contributed for The Logical Song (together with the original Yes keyboard player Tony Kaye), while Joe sang on Bloody Well Right. Other guests on the album include Annie Haslam, Rick Wakeman, Chris Squire, John Wetton, Tony Levin, Robby Krieger, Peter Banks, Geoff Downes, and Jordan Rudess. The album was produced by Billy Sherwood.

Awesome! That is a serious lineup for a tribute album like this, proving the popularity of the tramp amongst the highest ranking of rock musos, not just the fans!

They’re similar, yes. I also liken the piano intro to Cross Eyed Mary so much I’ve caught myself mistking them a few times. Not a huge Supertramp fan but whatever, I’d still rather hear how JLT sounded with Alan Pasons some years ago when he did the shows with them. Morse and Supertramp, perhaps more his speed really. The Aviator tends to sound like them at the bridge, and his acoustic playing in general on that sounds a lot more like them than Purple any day. Even the second Kansas album he did was actually very good, and both bands are AOR Prog. Purple is not. This fits something he’d do much better than what he’s been repeating with them.
Something tells me Purple’s album is going to be inspired, hopefully he’ll be a part of it instead of against it. But then they could wing it and still be interesting, I barely hear his chords in Rosa’s Cantina at all, and that still sounds hot!
August 4th, 2012 at 18:35I’m actually supposed to be seeing Hodgson on the 10th at a nice outdoor venue at the Zoo. I’m predicting it will blow the Lindsey Buckingham gig down.
August 4th, 2012 at 19:05I Have followed the Roger Hodgson concert since 2010. His shows are wonderful! This year is his world tour with the show “Breakfast in America”, has been a huge success. The “Super Tramp” remains alive in the voice of the great ROGER RODGSON !!
