JCSS remaster
The ‘original studio cast’ album of Jesus Christ Superstar (yes, the one with Gillan) is about to be released in remastered form in the UK on Decca Broadway label. Release date has been set for July 16. It is a straight copy of the original album, no bonus material.

This is interesting, this is a fabulous piece of music and Gillans performance as JC on this is simply phenomenal. Here in the UK at the moment, Lloyd Webber is running a TV show at prime time on Saturday evening called “Superstar” its a kind of an X-Factor type of format that is trying to find someone to sing the part of JC for new touring version of JCSS…
July 9th, 2012 at 09:33I have the original …….pretty sweet though.
July 9th, 2012 at 10:38Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 9th, 2012 at 13:42Absolute Original First and Best version Masterpiece directly inspired from God…
it features some of my favourite musicians like Jhon Gustafson and Tony Ashton…and obviously the “screaming Jesus” himself….
I hope this album will come out one day with some outtakes…or footage!
July 9th, 2012 at 21:32A IAN GIILAN NUNCA SE LE A DADO LUGAR EN ESTA OBRA, YA ES MOMENTO QUE SE LE RECONOZCA COMO EL PRIMER JESUS CHRIST DE ESTA GRAN OBRA, Y LO QUE FALTA RECONOCERLE A IAN GILLAN.
July 10th, 2012 at 06:36Tony Ashton?
July 10th, 2012 at 09:02Must be me Alsheimer, I dont remembur.
Tony Ashton is credited as “crowd” or something on the album together with a cast of many. He does not do any lead work.
July 10th, 2012 at 19:25What about a footage of the original play ?, i’d rather give my soul to get something like this ..
July 10th, 2012 at 20:22@8: Gillan never did any kind of performances of JCS, if that was what you were hoping for.
July 10th, 2012 at 20:26This is a good news I wish there was a
July 13th, 2012 at 07:30bonus material or some alternate takes.
Hi
Some of Gillans finest singing, the vocals he blast out during What’s the Buzz truely magnificent.
July 13th, 2012 at 12:06Bought the original LP when it was released. Saw movie whe it was released. Saw the stage production when it came to the Coconut Grove Playhouse. I sure wish Ian had taken the shot at performing it live or in the film……
cheers
July 16th, 2012 at 03:09@12 I both agree and disagree with you on that one. If Gillan had taken the shot, he would have left Deep Purple. So I’m just glad he did the JCSS in the studio and rejoined purple after the task was done. Now we have a masterpiece in JCSS with Gillan screaming his soul out and all the other great Deep Purple stuff.
Cheers
July 19th, 2012 at 06:02@1, I wonder if Gillan was ever asked to be a judge? I watched the first 5 minutes of it and turned off, none can scream like our boy.
July 19th, 2012 at 06:40I do recall that it would have been a full blast long tour and thus it was an all or nothing issue I m afraid .
In retrospect, DP have/has done all sorts of extra curricular activities that IMHO never damaged the DP entity, your wish is mine wish.
July 19th, 2012 at 09:41Wow! Great stuff! Ian as Jesus and Murray Head as Judas made this piece wonderful, unique and unforgetable. Good vibes from Brazil!
