Embarrassed, but hey, it’s only rock’n’roll
Roger Glover posts a message on his web site that, amongst other things, confirms that he flies easyJet like us, mere mortals.
On the topic that always creates a stir on ’em internets:
IG and I shared the journey to Frankfurt via Caracas and we had time to chat about the next album. It was a productive talk and despite all the negative things buzzing around the Internet, we are enthusiastic and will definitely be working on the project early in the New Year. I read somewhere that all the tracks were finished, awaiting only vocals. That’s not true. From the writing session earlier this year at El Cortijo studio in Spain (not Ian Paice’s studio, as I think some believe), we have a dozen unfinished jams and ideas for songs – rough diamonds that have yet to be polished. There it is.

Ah, and happy birthday to you, Reverend.
So… let’s keep on waiting for that new record!!! Hope it is released in the first half of 2012.
November 29th, 2011 at 23:55Something was obviously lost in translation, it happens.
November 30th, 2011 at 00:57Make that record!
November 30th, 2011 at 13:02I didn’t buy a ticket for Friday’s show in Arnhem because I want to hear new songs!!
I can’t see anyway that they’ll be working on an album until at least mid March with Gillan touring in January and then the Canada tour now confirmed!
November 30th, 2011 at 13:11Can’t wait for the 19th studio album. Perhaps, its about time for Purplian to record it. Its been a long time since 2005. Long Live Deep Purple. C’mon guys, lets give your best shots for the upcoming album. THE 19TH STUDIO ALBUM.
November 30th, 2011 at 18:12Holy grab … endless time has been leaving to an official statement from one of our 5 friends. Thats an information from first hand – not over and over 1000 hands or ears and mouth…

November 30th, 2011 at 18:35anyway: happy birthday to you Roger!
November 30th, 2011 at 20:08I’d say Roger obviously reads the comments on this site and is answering the album issue, directing his point based on the resent statements made regarding Gillan’s absence in the studio. And people think they aren’t heard when they speak out.
Power to the Purple People! Looks like we are getting an album after all. New Purple album and a new President in 2012. Things are looking up and I for one am looking forward to it.
Cheers
December 1st, 2011 at 02:45This would be gratifying news were it not for the fact that we have heard it many times before over the years.
In addition, the various members describe “The Cortijo Tapes” inconsistently, with one saying the sessions were fantastic and the other saying nothing of value was achieved. This implies the musicians are not on the same page. I maintain no album will be released in 2012. At any rate, I suggest the title “Seeing Is Believing”.
I don’t want to be one of the “negative things buzzing” on the internet, but given the band’s track record of producing albums since the turn of the century, fans cannot be blamed for their frustration and pessimism.
On the other hand, Purple should be grateful their fans are so passionate. If the issue wasn’t so important to them, there would be no “buzzing” at all.
December 1st, 2011 at 03:36What’s to be embarresed about, did I miss something?
December 1st, 2011 at 09:23Yes, you obviously didn’t read the whole article. Roger was embarrassed due to not being on stage to receive the award….Some good folks with integrity as with Roger Glover have a concept of decency, even though as he says….”it’s only Rock & Roll”.
Cheers

@SratKat: Yeah, I think you’re partly right, concerning the frustration and pessimism of the fans, but some times, these two states of mind seem to allow some people to say things which are quite insulting, I think. And in this aspect, I do totally disagree with you. Someone (the fans, in this case) CAN be blamed for his unpolite behaviour, even if not for his frustration or pessimism.
And by the way, as a die-hard fan, I’m very happy to see they are still on the road and give almost everyone on this earth the opportunity to see them! A so much touring band, at this age! I mean… they are old! =) The problem, as you point it out really well, is the contradictions concerning the new album, from big Ian (“nothing is done”), Ian paice (“we just await the lyrics”) and Glover (“not finished, but in process”).
But except this fact, I think DP decides when to do an album, not the fans.
@ Larry R. Toering: You should read the whole letter on the site of Roger, not only what is posted on THS, you would certainly understand… xD
December 2nd, 2011 at 08:04We need a great new album as soon as possible, tired to listen Rapture songs on Tour, Purple have to change all the songs from the next tour, cam’on boys…you can do it!!!
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:17What Rapture songs?
December 3rd, 2011 at 00:04Priest @15…
The do the title song “Rapture of the Deep” plus “Well Dressed Guitar” which was released on the ‘Deluxe’ version of the album on the second disk.

After filling in a form in which I could vote my(…)favourite guitarplayer, I found this by scrolling back to last years poll. : )
I thought the next thing was funny, not to say …….HILARIOUS!!!!!
Jan 2011 update:
Before we start I just want to lay down a few rules for those wanting to participate. Here is the detailed list of do’s and don’ts so please take note:
• No obsessed German fans hailing Ritchie Blackmore as the ‘greatest’ for no particular reason (just by saying “I’ve followed him since the Burn tour” is no basis to support your arguments).
January 5th, 2012 at 15:11• No reference to dead guitarists who are, in fact, still alive.
• Please ensure you match the guitarist with the correct band (Jimmy Page never played in Whitesnake, as an example).
• No mention of the word ‘crap’ or ‘shit’ (particularly when referring to Joe Satriani and Steve Vai).
• No references to heavily sweating guitarists (Gary Moore fans please take note).
• No mixing up of Steve Morris with Steve Morse
• No reference to Doug Aldwich being related to one of the first men to land on the moon
• No reference to Clem ‘Dave’ Clemson being called Dave ‘Clem’ Clemson.
• Please no reference to Eric Clapton playing on an iconic gay anthem called ‘I shot up the Sheriff’.
• No reference to the words ‘greatest‘, ‘guitarist‘, ‘The’ and ‘Edge’ in the same sentence.
• No reference to wigs or hair conditioning products
Yes Priest, those are hilarious. Thanks for sharing that. I got a good laugh. Especially the last 2.
Cheers
