New installments of Dear Friends and Q&A are up on Caramba! Newtonian consequences, dignity and respect, Caesarean black tent confusion solution, metric Missourian strategy, groupies liggers, and Rudyard Kipling — it’s all there. Read it.
Thanks to Steve Campbell for the info.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhh, yes????
July 14th, 2011 at 09:48Ah, now I get it. I must be a groupie…….LOL.

This is from dpas TODAY(…) :
The band doesn’t have a position on bootlegs,” bassist Roger Glover explains.
“The band has five different positions.
We all have our own views on it;
Steve [Morse, guitarist] is adamantly against them.
He believes that when he’s doing a live performance, it is for the moment, and, when he’s soaring away and he’s doing it for the moment, and he sees the little red light of a video camera, he freezes up, because he knows it’s going to be dissected later, and it takes away from his performance. His performance is one time only; it’s not there to be pored over and dissected, and that’s why he resents it.”

Blackmore once called fans to record their own shows : )
Maybe Steve is afraid that, after the exitement of the show, people notice he is being very repetitive instead of what he says to be a spontaneous event.
July 15th, 2011 at 10:29Roger :
“I could never understand our success;
I could never understand why so many people bought our records, because they were so full of flaws!
And then I started listening to bootlegs and to what we really were, and I came to reassess the whole thing.
Listening to bootlegs from [the early 1970s], I realized what a dangerous band we were, and how exciting it was not to know what was going to happen next.
We walked a very thin line between chaos and order, and that was the magic, that was why people bought our records.
I came from a pop band, and when you’re a pop band, you learn the song, and you play it the same way every night. And now, there’s this band veering off, and suddenly the solo’s in E when it should be … ‘hey, what’s happening here?’ That’s the magic.”

July 15th, 2011 at 10:35Priest/Chair/Holy/Purple…..whatever…
Dude, you can dig up whatever statements you wish from the past. There are over 40 years of remarks made, based on the band’s status at the time…..Big deal.
That was then, this is now. “If you don’t like what you see, and you can do better than me…..you better Walk On……”
In other words….GO WHERE YOU ARE HAPPY. It obviously ain’t here. Crank up your backwoods semi-stereo with whatever back catalogue of Purple you like and crawl into your little hole. Your “Holy Hole”…….Be Happy. Sit and Wonder, what might have been on your own time…..
Let the Worms decide the rest when you are ‘Long Gone’.
Cheers
July 16th, 2011 at 02:31Tracy, he is as behind on this as anything…. and he probably owes you more for therapy sessions than he owes artists for stealing their work… hhmm, makes one wonder how he gets everything else in life. The possiblity factor is through the roof there.
July 16th, 2011 at 19:30Resorting to trolling with the username change says it all, the personality disorder has passed the border. Off the deep end, I’m afraid. Too late Priest, you have finally succeeded in making the enemies you’ve been looking for. (or one of them anyway) You are a thief and a troll by definition, who is stuck on an obsession with those who differ in their opinions concerning yours about DP’s validity without your wounded soldier. At times you show some hope and don’t preach that nonsense, but after years of whining it’s obvious what your agenda is. (this is just an observation based on your own incrimination) I see a potentially bright comedic future for you though, as it all reads like good stand-up material. The Blackmore obsession is one thing, but it’s turned you into a sociopathical creep after all.
July 16th, 2011 at 19:47I like to watch horror movies, thank you.
This was then, this is now.
There are over 16 years gone.
Just 4 albums, a load of pretention and other nonsense.
As long as you are happy Bro.
Long gone, out of this place……..
Have a nice weekend.
Cheers.
July 16th, 2011 at 22:17Holy Chair: Why not just take Steve’s opinion at face value instead of using it as a stick to beat him with? It’s not like his position is unusual; in fact, it states in plain language what Robert Fripp has spent a 100,000 words reiterating and clarifying (and his supposedly intelligent audience’s inability to get it is a large part of the reason why Fripp retired). Steve is just one of many musicians who find recording to be a violation.
Tracy: I don’t always agree with you on everything but YES YES YES. People who can’t get over Steve being the guitarist after 17 years should just move on and find something else to listen to.
July 17th, 2011 at 10:41@9 – I have to agree, and good choice of using Robert Fripp as an example! Talk about pretentious, supposed intelligence is exactly what it is. This has to be one of the most commonly sensible posts I’ve read here.
(I met Fripp twice, serviced him with publicity, bar none the most arrogant person I’ve ever met in the business, his fans followed… still didn’t seem to get the picture though… this has nothing to do with his level of artistry, or maybe it does, but I won’t comment either way on that, simply because I like plenty of it)
July 17th, 2011 at 22:53Hi Reinder
Are you really comparing Steve to Robert Fripp?
Mmhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
” Hi supposedly intelligent audience.”
I tried to follow him after the first King Crimson album but failed.
Must say something about my cognitive abilities then, hahaha
Music at a supposedly more cerebral level does not grab me by the troat, I m sorry.
I dont think its a logical argument to say Steve is not alone in his opinion.
In DUTCH we like to call that ” een drogreden” . Not?
Another illogical argument is in your compliment for Tracy.
According to you, him and some others people should away from THS because they dont like Morse.
Wake up my fellow Dutchie, I am not alone as well and THS is, I VE SAID THIS SO MAY TIMES, not just about the Morse era.
If was on ThS with the will to please others I d compromise and say :
” Ok, I ll still stay on board but refrain from commenting on anything related to Mister Holy”.
But I m not on this site because of that.
Like so many others I write what I want.
Which does not include extreme personal attacks, racism and so on.
Or would you call my never stopping anti Morse statements an insult towards him?
I think he has an ego too big to be bothered about me, so……
Its like the ” leave Britney alone.” campaign from that so called fan(It was fake I think)on YouTube which became such a hit and later on was parodied in a great way in SouthPark : )
I dont think Gillan cares about the many moments people here talk about weak “moments” in his performance.
On a more positive note :
I saw your website and its intersting reading.
I like KATE BUSH as well and I m gonna listen to all the posted covers of her songs you ve posted on there.
Thanx Teacher : )

Big words, man.
My resorting(???)(to trolling with usernames as a valid argument to slide in dirty waters again?
You are taking yourselves really too seriously
Another treat of your trait feeling the need to personally attack persons.
I shrug my shoulders.
” You are a thief and a troll by definition,”
Excuse me?! You re on a roll appearantly.
Whats a thief?
Who are the thieves?
Everyones who trades and sells above the price of a product?
(One cannot make a profit without selling something for a higher price).
Actual price?
Why would a musician get more money than someone who bakes bread?
A thief is someone who uses opportunities to get himself a bargain?
Well, millions like me are thiefs then.
I DONT GIVE A DAMN.
“Who is stuck on an obsession with those who differ in their opinions concerning yours about DP’s validity without your wounded soldier. ”
1
Funny.
If thats correct the same accounts for you and the “others” on the other end of the subject.
They are ass much obsessed with me then because I hurt their feelings about Steve : )
I m not hurt if people talk shit about Blackmore, I m just annoyed by the stupidity.
2
Wounded soldier?
Are you referring to toys now? : )
If people like you just ignore me Svante would have not so much work.
Take care with your health.
July 18th, 2011 at 13:52@11: AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE SAID THIS SO MANY TIMES, you don’t have to tell us how you don’t like Morse in every post.
Of course THS is also for people who not like Morse, but why go on about how much you don’t like Morse as comments to posts relating to Morse. That, my friend, is called trolling.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_%28Internet%29
July 18th, 2011 at 18:34I am not familiar with “Internet -slang” which it is appearantly.
Trolling is inflammatory behaviour so it seems.
If it is(mine)than why you are not raging about some othger outings is beyond me.
TROLLING.
Confusing that “some” here use it for different things.(sic)
Spitting out all kind of personal attacks.
How to use THS without crossing paths with the willingly forgetful or consciously insulting……
Oh, I forgot, its not really an insult.
It s all a waste of time.
And you Svante are to blame as well.
You are again repeating the nonsense argument that I m doing that in every post.
If you really believe that, well…….
Like Ian Paice said : I ve lost all my respect for that guy.
July 18th, 2011 at 19:44Maybe its time Priest started his own RB appreciation site? Somewhere he can worship his idol, rant on about his out-dated socialist ideas, and generally spout crap to the like minded.
July 20th, 2011 at 08:31Holy Crap:
Save Svante some work by reducing your rants and entries pertaining to your constant dissatisfaction toward Everything Purple without your Man in Tights. Yes as you keep posting….”You are not alone in your opinion”. But you Are alone as for being the constant ‘drip, drip, drip’ from the faucet that is as irritating as stepping in cat shit. You have many moments of positive input and some good constructive criticism, but you overshadow it all with your moronic repeated berating of Morse and Co.
Speaking of ‘Trolling’…. I was out trolling for Striped Bass the other day and caught an Alligator Gar. That’s the kind of trolling I like. Used to troll for Chicks. Now I’m happily married.
Cheers
July 23rd, 2011 at 23:05Dear ones above,
It seems to me that right here and now on this thread a majority of
critical but wide open minded fans are absent. Fans who are also stating
their opinion on and on about Mr.Morse & co or about Mr.Blackmore &
co.
However, #13, you should know the best… The Highway Star should be a
fan forum with a standard for all line ups of DP shouldn’t it?
Since the beginning of this site, over and over again, there are the
fans comments …whining, weeping, celebrating, shouting…It all
depends in which angle one stands…
But the standard that some Morsers here above are using to make their
opinion dominant is beneath all level. Infamous cheap, clumsy
manipulating, false pretending all fans are behind Morse and adorating
this line up.
Scolding and ticking ….to get their opinion through…
It makes me wonder WHY ???
The answer is, that a Blacker doesn’t HAVE to do that, he has the many
proves of quality in the hand and ears.
Healthy fans are allowed to whine or jubilate for a million times…Blackers and the non fundamentalistic Morse fans don’t bother. There is no need for
them to act so disappointing.
And sure…they can enjoy Steve too…during a few songs though 🙂
I ‘m indifferent for who is the best banjo player, or who is best line
up concerning this comments, but a respectable forum deserve
passionate fan’s but not fanatic defenders at this poor level.
Zum Whole !!!

July 25th, 2011 at 20:49Uh Lizzy….as in Thin????
Just to set the record straight, it isn’t about defending anybody. You are way off base. It’s about the constant unbridled berating and bashing. If you think constantly having to repeat your dissatisfaction about something over and over again, no matter what else the topic is about is ‘healthy’, what would you call ‘unhealthy’? I have been through every MK of Deep Purple. I find outstanding stuff from them all. Each has succeeded the last. Each and every musician that has come and gone, and presently in Purple is as important as the last. But if one lives in the present, and looks forward to present and future Purple music, there is no sane reason to bitch about who isn’t in the band. As a matter of fact, put the shoe on the other foot. If these few rabble-rousers were constantly bashing or berating Blackmore, no matter what the main topic was as they do about Morse, I would take the same stand toward that as I do about the Morse bashers and Blackmoreless whiners. It isn’t about defending anybody. It’s about the senseless repeaters that really need to find a band they like. In other words….Grow Up and Get Over It. I don’t think there are any children here, but you would never know it by these continual whiners. “Are we there yet?” every 2 minutes during a 2 hour road trip from an adolescent is comparable to these childish crybabies regarding their long lost lute player.
Cheers
