On oxymorons, pigeonholes and being comfrotable

Roger Glover writes about his new solo album:

…Could it be a journalistic urge to put everything in an easily digestible box (please, not literally)? I guess it’s all about pigeonholes and I’m not particularly happy about being stuffed into one – it’s very dark in there. How do you describe music that is at once, blues, ballads, greens, hard rock, salads, reggae, folk, un-Purple, home-made, orchestral, spotted, funky, eccentric, naïve, moist, jazz, singer-songwriter…? Well, it’s like, um, um, you know, it’s got a bit of…. You know what I’m saying. Categorization is for retail stores, if you’re old enough to remember them. And radio, if you can remember that.

I hope everybody understands the humor of Roger. What a GREAT person. Purple without Roger. NO WAY! I’m happy that you are still going strong – and maybe even stronger than ever.

Just some bits and pieces of observations:

Roger continues to mention the grammatical error in the title. The fact is, this does not matter in America where most people would say, in vernacular, “If life was easy” anyway.

Yeah, I remember radio. I remember tubes and waiting for the thing to warm up and the funky “thump” noise when it was shut off.

“I have an album (an old-fashioned name for a CD)…” I always will call a collection of songs an “album”, whether it be LP, CD, 3-D or whatever…

Joe Strummer… Anyone catch the Fender Reissue? Antiqued rusted metal and road worn olive finish on a Telecaster–the only model of the type that had any kind of appeal to me. I do not like most of them. This one looked more authentic.

    Sixteen songs…wow…that’s a long ALBUM. I wish DP would do a sixteen-song-long album…

“I am under no delusion that but for them (the band…),” Roger says, “I would not be able to easily indulge the fantasy of recording my own album. And I don’t let me forget it!” What a great admission. This is indicative of one who is genuinely thankful for the opportunity, and not just along for the ride. No disgruntled Beatle here.

The posting by Roger has the tone of one tired of answering the same old questions. Sounds a bit like he was merely trying to set the record (no pun intended) straight on a few items.

just love Roger’s take on situations. But I love his musicianship more, boy I wish Coverdale could of been in the band when Glover was playing Bass. That would of been interesting at least for me anyway. Cheers

    Must take that back.
    Childish of me.
And that while I can appreciate albums like this on its own merits.

Maybe its not as good as SNAPSHOT but it certainbly seems to be intended as Part 2.
    Which is fine to me.

Roger sounds like Roger. And nobody else does. He is in his own category,
