Roger Glover “If Life Was Easy” album details
This hodgepodge collection of songs reveals or obscures a range of emotions over a turbulent decade; separation, divorce, injustice, uncertainty, new love, escape, fatherhood, grand-fatherhood, emigration, touring and losing my mother are some of the extreme highs and lows during this storm-tossed period. All were written wherever I was living – on a MacPro with ProTools and a few instruments and gadgets – extra musicians were added in the studio as needed. By the way, I know that it should be If Life Were Easy – it’s a subtle irony.
I am most grateful to The Guilty Party, my collaborators, whose patience and alent has graced these humble efforts; Joe Bonadio – musical director, Randall Bramblett, Oz Noy, Nicky Moroch, Joe Mennonna. My guests; Gillian Glover, Dan Cafferty, Pete Agnew, Walther Gallay, Mickey Lee Soule, Sahaj Ticotin, Sim Jones, Don Airey, Eliot Denenberg, Harvey Jones.

Dan cCafferty, Pete Agnew!!!!!!!!! I want to listen to “THE DREAM I HAD”…probably a ballad…
June 9th, 2011 at 19:06And the wonderful Joe Mennonna!
June 9th, 2011 at 21:00Dan McCafferty, the original Axl Rose.
June 9th, 2011 at 21:43Seems like the Twilight Years are beginning to take effect on our heroes. These are the defining and finishing touches that are being bestowed upon us. I suggest we All take heed and see them when they are within range and buy what they produce, because ‘Here today, gone tomorrow..’…
Looking forward to this obvious encapsulation of Roger’s personal creative offering. I believe it will be very telling as to the present of it all…..
“Purple Twilight”…..next and probably last album title.
Cheers
June 10th, 2011 at 01:03As one of those literary types, I was a little taken aback by the title, but I’m glad to see that Roger knows about the imperfect subjunctive following an “if” clause. “If life WERE easy”–because it’s not! 😉
Cool cover art.
What’s a “pianet”?
June 10th, 2011 at 03:10I always have mixed feelings about Roger’s solo albums, but I’ll get it anyway. There’s always at least a couple of great tracks.
June 10th, 2011 at 06:44“No one buys the albums nowadays…” – except solo albums of Roger Glover, Ian Gillan, Steve Morse or Don Airey.
June 10th, 2011 at 07:47But why Roger sings on so many songs as he can’t sing. Anyway these days you can make anyone sings but he had good vocalists there.
June 10th, 2011 at 08:54Is any good?, Dan Cafferty of the band Nazereth ( Hair of the Dog ).
June 10th, 2011 at 10:16Cant wait to have this CD. I know it will be on my CD for a LOOONG time. As always.
June 10th, 2011 at 14:14The ghost of your smile?
Related to that DP track on Bananas, Haunted?
June 10th, 2011 at 14:46Wow, Dan McCafferty. Roger produces his first great soloalbum and some Nazareth…
And Mickey Lee Soule on vocals. I love his singing contribution to “The Butterfly Ball” (“No Solution”).
Btw: A reprise of the concert with guest musicians would be great!
Looking forward to Roger’s new output.

What makes you think Roger can’t sing? He’s got such a warm timbre…

June 12th, 2011 at 04:35With the great Walther Gallay on “WHEN THE DAY IS DONE”!
June 12th, 2011 at 06:33I am impatient to hear this album.
To Marcinn i judged his vocal abilities by his performances on The mask and snapshot. It just did not worked
June 12th, 2011 at 18:37Sure, looks like one of Roger’s lyrical contributions to ‘Haunted’ -Priest.
June 13th, 2011 at 03:32@ Tomekk
On what grounds have you judged his vocal abilities? Comparing him to professional singers maybe?
June 14th, 2011 at 19:40It’s very good news the album is finally out. And what a line-up of fantastic players. I also don’t mind Roger singing. The Mask did a very good impression on me although it’s clear he’s not a professional singer but has a natural vibe. I’m glad he decided to sing more. It makes the music even more his own.
June 15th, 2011 at 16:30Personally I think attention for Rogers solo albums would be better served if he taken a slightly different approach.
I bought Snapshot and kinda like it but would have been much more eager to buy it(I now had a download from a friend and delayed buying the cd untill I found a pristine copy with a strongly reduced price on a 2nd hand market)if some famous guests would have been implemented.
Its a beautiful thing, this personal staments but…..
A combination of the people involved now PLUS some famous guests, like Lord or Paice or Gillan(I suppose we can leave Ritchie out by now.)would not have changed the music but bring it to a higher level.
Think what Love Is All did for The Butterfly Ball.
And one of the highlights of that album, with John Lawton, Little Chalk Blue?
I thought RG was friends with Ronnie?
1 or 2 tracks by him, and the same for Gillan or DC(Plenty possibilities probably) would have made a big one.
And it would not have hurt the integrity of the musical intentions by Roger.
I connect here with the discussion about why DP themselves have problems with doing new albums.
While surely these solo albums rarely hit the top button in sales.
I conclude that solo albums are really not intended with a commercial goal but truly as a personal statement.
Which leaves us , again, with the unescapable conclusion, that they are not inspired to do a artistic statement with a band album.
I understood that they had a writingsession.
Then I was brought to believe they actually recorded 9 tracks.
But the first sentence echoed proportionally more later on.
So, no recorded tracks as yet?
They re not in a hurry to do it appearantly.
Why?
They lead a comfortable life, no real hardships.
No empty, cold and bare surroundings.
Glenn made about at least 15 albums since 1994, the beginning of the Morse era.
And strong ones too!
June 15th, 2011 at 17:05@Marcinn,
Roger aside… I could listen to Randall sing for him all day long. Talk about finding a voice that is taylor suited!
June 15th, 2011 at 18:20@Larry
I appreciate Randall’s singing very much myself and have all his solo albums except for the last one. He is a great singer, with unprecedented ability to translate emotions into words. That is to say, I noticed him after ‘Snapshot’, but better late than never. Wish he would sing more on this new release, but I also like Glover’s voice, which as you can see, some consider being almost a fallacy 😉 So before I express my final opinion, I need to listen to ‘If Life Was Easy’. Opinions? What are they? LOL Looking forward to this release as much as to anything summer may bring.
June 17th, 2011 at 10:41@Marcinn -it kind of reminds me of agreeing with anything Jon Lord or Ritchie Blackmore say or think.(in this case probably taking Jon’s harsh opinion concerning Roger’s singing voice… just a hunch, but a fair one concerning what a lot of people commonly resort to around here)
June 20th, 2011 at 03:03Roger just wanted to add his personal touch to the album. It’s obviously a very personal effort and he selected particular songs to sing on for expression of it. Bob Dylan is without a doubt the worst singer by far out there, but nobody complains about him performing his own songs. I guess that is the way of the Purple Fans of today. Is there nothing they won’t complain about???
Cheers

“Bob Dylan is without a doubt the worst singer by far out there, but nobody complains about him performing his own songs.”
I do : )
June 23rd, 2011 at 13:37Dude, you ARE the ultimate Chronic complainer. That statement was an oxymoron.
cheers
June 27th, 2011 at 00:22Good album no matter who it is. Too bad it has to be about who it is all the time, oh well, some people just don’t understand music. I’m enjoying it.
July 19th, 2011 at 07:51I wonder why anyone asks a questions these days. All you have to do is Google and the answers are all there. A pianet:
July 28th, 2011 at 06:30http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pianet
There is no need to understand music, just experience it.
