Paicey has things to say
Ian Paice recently was on the phone with a radio station down under and “singlehandedly busted about 7,000 stereotypes of a drummer”. Writing process both then and now, pros and cons of new technology, walking down the street, how long will Deep Purple continue, and why all his favorite drummers are dead — it’s all in the interview.
Listen to it or download it (mp3, 17MB).
Thanks to abc.net.ua for the info.
It’s not relevant to this story but I didn’t know where else to write this but how come after almost a week nothing’s been said about the fact that Roger Glover’s not playing with the band?
I’m sure Nick Fyffe is an able replacement but surely not to the extent that no one’s noticed Roger’s not there?
May 10th, 2011 at 17:48@ Black Sheep
That’s fuckin’ huge news! I watched several videos on YouTube from the recent Greek tour and noticed that new guy with them but I thought he was just a special guest. WHERE IS ROGER???
May 10th, 2011 at 21:05exactly : WHERE IS ROGER???
May 10th, 2011 at 21:27“Its so easy to record nowadays.”
(……)
Enough said, for now…..
May 10th, 2011 at 22:08From what I’ve read Roger is with his wife who is currently hospitalized and that’s why thay have a replacement for him at the moment. I do hope she will get better soon and that Roger will get back playing with Purple.
May 10th, 2011 at 22:11Roger is with his newly born baby.
May 11th, 2011 at 00:50According to DPAS, “family reasons.”
May 11th, 2011 at 01:36so, roger got new born baby and was/is with his family now… cheers
May 11th, 2011 at 06:14The only substitute for Roger is Glenn!
May 11th, 2011 at 07:01This is not good. If it was a new positive thing there was no reason to keep a secret.
May 11th, 2011 at 08:09Please update us all asap.
I hope and cross fingers for good news very soon.
@George & Black Sheep: as I said on the WhoCares topic, Roger’s wife was about to give birth to their baby those days, so Roger wasn’t able to be in Greece or Cyprus. I was told he will be back for the rest of the tour, so nothing to worry about.
May 11th, 2011 at 08:37even rogerglover.com has not been updated since january…. WTF’s happening?, the fans should be told
May 11th, 2011 at 09:00About the Roger thing…
I’ve read that he’s not with them because some family things or something, but I think, he comes back in a short time. At least I hope so!
May 11th, 2011 at 12:08According to Deep Purple.Net Roger’s absence is due to family reasons. I am hoping everything will be o.k. and he will be back in time for the North American tour. It’s been about 5 years since Purple’s toured the states and it would be a real bummer not to have Roger there.
May 11th, 2011 at 12:10Found this on the DPAS site dated May 9, 2011:
“Ex Jamiroquoi bassist Nick Fyffe has been standing in for Roger Glover at Deep Purple’s shows in Crete (6 May) and Cyprus (8 May). Fyffe has previously played with Jon Lord, and is something of a regular at the annual Sunflower Jam charity shows. Roger’s absence is apparently due to family reasons.”
May 11th, 2011 at 12:27Rumor has it that Roger has a new baby and Nick Fyffe is the temporary replacement bass player.
May 11th, 2011 at 13:11Hold Your horses, friends. And for those eager to have this Mk. III reunion. Don´t hold Your breath waiting for that. Mr. Paice has himself told me about the facts why it never will happen. Or was it “Never Say Never” ? I´m sure there´s a reasonable fact for Mr. Glover´s absense right now. Take care, all of You.
May 11th, 2011 at 13:28He had to be back home ’cause he’s becoming …father (again). He’ll be back for the rest Greek dates.
May 11th, 2011 at 13:32@Raziel66
You’re right(sorry I didn’t see what you’d written on the other story), I just found it strange that his absence hadn’t been picked up on or reported on.
May 11th, 2011 at 14:30Hey did you guys here that Roger Glover didn’t play in Greece. His wife is having a baby – and he left the tour for a short while.
May 12th, 2011 at 01:50Paicey also thinks there enough audiences for them still, so he experts them to pursue another 10 years.
Ian at 75 screaming his way through HardLovin Man?!
May 12th, 2011 at 16:45@12 the fans should be told
I think there might be a ‘Super injunction’ out on anyone associated with the band from commenting on RG’s abscence. “Roger Who? – No Stinking Hippies here mate!”
Either way – Roger does things everyday that he doesn’t tell us about! yes, really. It’s true.
My only ‘Beef’ with something like this would be if I had bought a ticket & ‘Midge Ure’ ended up on guitar! (Those poor Thin Lizzy fans).
Glenn Hughes is too good to be anyone else’s bass player!
Best wishes to Roger & Family (Not Roger Chapman & ‘Family’) & may the Welsh water revive him well.
May 12th, 2011 at 19:42I dont care if people go off thread from time to time but….
Isnt this thread not about the Ian Paice interview?
Nobody cares?
