A cord in the rear end
National Examiner has a very, ahem, entertaining interview with David Coverdale:
Forevermore is one hard rocking album, even more than its predecessor, Good to Be Bad. What’s in the engine room these days?
The engine room is just a fuel for life in general. I think if you put a cord in my rear end, I could light up a significant community.
You became a U.S. citizen in 2007. What new things did you rediscover about America in the process that you appreciate?
There was an awful lot of stuff. Of course, I had to learn a great deal about its history, but being a history buff, anyway, as a student of history, it was fantastic. It’s a great honor for me that I can maintain my British [citizenship] as well. So half and half, I don’t know which half—maybe Manland, the theme park between my legs, is the American side.
I m glad the remark about his Manland is not representative of the rest of the interview.
Enjoyable and interesting piece.
Hopefully this time around his voice will be better when playing live.
We ll see.(…)
Nice to read he favours IN ROCK as a DP album : )
What would he think of current DP?
March 30th, 2011 at 12:26Well Well, David did a nice job handling the Enquirer? Especially the part about Robert Plant calling him Coverversion! Why would you waste time asking me that!! LOL Couldn’t have said that any better myself. also the stuff about Sykes was handled well, I knew that they had briefly reconnected, but I did not know that it was around the time of Into the Light, thought that it was a little later than that, but they did create well together, just couldn’t coexist as Human Beings. By the way Forevermore is a Monster CD, better than Good to be Bad, not quite as heavy, a little bluesier! The Opener actually has the Harmonica, that should satisfy some of the older fans who like the Marsden-Moody material, some good acoustic work! Rock On Bill
March 30th, 2011 at 15:28Saying that about InRock doesn’t surprise me since it’s the only sensible to say concerning their defining moment. He isn’t stupid there, he actually listened to them for what they were most worth.
March 30th, 2011 at 20:05David would probably think the current DP lineup is a piece of sh*t. The enquirer should have asked him whether or not we will ever see a reunion of the best DP ever. It is starting to make me sick looking at Ian.
March 31st, 2011 at 00:58yes, it would be interesting to know what Coverdale thinks about deep purple nowdays…
March 31st, 2011 at 12:52anyway ‘forevermore’ is the worst whitesnake album ever (think about it: ‘forevermore’ is better of ??? at least one or max two past albums)…the sound and the instruments choice could be good but the compositions are not…in my opinion there’s a big problem on the songwriting process…this problem was relevant on ‘good to be bad’, but now even more…anyway I like the Gillan style scream on ‘my evil ways’…
p.s.
I always thinked Coverdale is better of Plant…He could sing Zeppelin even tunes better than Robert…
Wow Crabby, sorry that you feel that way about one of the best singers ever in R & R. Oh well, music is so subjective – so, to each his own.
March 31st, 2011 at 15:42I understand that DC’s image is like RB’s, and that he sung some Plant’s tunes while with Page in a manner similar to RB’s, but to say he’s RB “coverversion” you need to have some way of comparing them, and CD’s voice is – from his prime time – way better and totally different from RB’s. So, “coverversion” is obviously malicious statement.. Not to say that Burn is as important in hard rock history as any of LZ’s albums – neoclassical thing, great performances from both DC and GH, great duo putting some new limits, etc.
