Coverdale talks wine
David Coverdale spoke to the Wine Spectator about the origins of the new Whitesnake Zinfandel:
Wine Spectator: How long have you been interested in wine?
David Coverdale: Being a child of the ’50s in England, it was only the aristocracy who could afford to indulge in European pleasantries. I didn’t really get to taste wine until an aunt took me to northern Italy when I was 10 or 11. That was just a finger dipped in. The next time, I was an art student of 15 or 16. I and a half-Spanish friend of mine would go to this delicatessen and get a loaf of French bread, cheeses and an old bottle of Chianti, the kind with straw around it. That was a life-changing experience for me in working-class northern England. Of course, when I was blessed with getting a gig with Deep Purple and flying all over the world in private planes and dining in Paris with 13 knives and forks on either side of the place setting, I was introduced to an astonishing array of wines.WS: The Whitesnake wine is a Zinfandel. Is that a varietal you like?
DC: It’s funny. [Winemaker] Dennis De La Montanya is a huge rock and roll fan, and I’m a huge wine fan. A mutual friend, who runs the Vegas Hilton, said, “Well, this could be an interesting cocktail to put these guys together.” Dennis recommended a Zin. We had no idea if this was going to do anything, so I agreed to 300 cases. And poof—gone! We had an order for 1,000 cases, so we’re putting together a Merlot. You can’t stop an express train.

His Recording studio is very Impressive to say the least, I hope he gets a really good keyboardist for the tour, as Tim Drury is doing the new CD for him. I think well actually I know they parted on good terms! Thats refreshing. Anyway if the new CD is in his words an extension of Good to be Bad, I twill be very very good! Keep on Rock David!! BP

October 31st, 2010 at 19:07I m not exactly a connaisseur but tend to prefer the zines from South Africa, Spain and South America.
But, then again, I only drink cheap stuff.
I drink mainly white wine.
Thats a shame because when I go out with a woman and she orders beer they always think its for me and vice versa.
Apart from that, I ve been told that RED wine is better for health.
When I did work out a lot I kinda compensated the over indulging but since my back problems I gained a lot of zeight again.
So now I still like to my pizza and white wine…….
Seems I cant lose my bad cold either, so swimming which was my main thing has become dubious as well.
The SAUNA would have been a good temporarily left over of my big fitness schedule.
But the place where I have a contract fucks up that much that the sauna is out of order now and they dont know when it will be replaced.
Typical bad buisness cooperation attitude of today. Bah.

The house recommends a Spanish Rioja reserve. I understand your embarassment at bars and stuff. I’m also a wine lover who happens to go out with a beer lover lover. Face gets red as wine when bartender comes over with my wine and her beer. Always serves wrong but with a smile. I feel like a bit surealistic then….LOL Ah well, but by the time second round comes around I see life with different eyes, magic of wine perhaps…
