Jon Lord joins Anna Phoebe for a new band
In his last week Rock Planet interview Jon Lord mentioned that he is getting an itch of playing more Hammond and is putting a new prog band together with acclaimed violinist Anna Phoebe. It looks like that the things are moving, as Anna posted yesterday in her Classic Rock blog:
I […] spent the weekend getting excited for a very special meeting I had yesterday with Jon Lord (as in the Jon Lord from Deep Purple). We spent yesterday in a North London studio with Hammond organ and violins at the ready, but actually spent most of the day talking and getting to know each other.
What an exceptional man – deeply humble, intelligent, witty, gracious and all round lovely! We talked about all aspects of music including our inspirations and influences, but also touring experiences and the routines we have when on the road. Despite his legendary status and a few decades head start, we actually have a lot in common with one another – not least with playing instruments which straddle the classical and rock world, but also in our attitude and approach to music.
The result of all this is that we have decided to embark on a musical project together! It will combine aspects of my solo music, as well as his orchestral compositions and also some Deep Purple songs…and some entirely new material which we will write together. The project will combine all of our musical influences and experiences into an exciting new sound…will keep you posted! Oh – and any ideas for a band name will be much appreciated!

Anna and Ian Anderson are already friends how about Jon & Ritchie than the best rhythmic in the market which is Roger & Ian Paice and here we are the best band in the world.

I have to say that I am enormously proud to be the recipient of probably the fastest criticism of a new band in the history of music.
Anna and I met musically for the first time just a short five days ago to discuss some ideas about what we might play together. It seems that, even un-rehearsed and as yet un-decided, our possible choice of some of the material that we might decide to work on is subject to censure. I accept this great honour on behalf of budding groups everywhere.
Oh – and by the way @5 – I’m not sure how something that hasn’t even been heard yet can be deemed to be a “shade” of Ritchie’s ever-delightful band of minstrels, although I accept this too as a compliment.
Ah well……….onwards and upwards, eh?

I am just tired to listen to deep purple songs played by related bands (as done by Gillan, Blackmore, Coverdale, Hughes etc. etc.)…you demonstrate to have many good and sometimes phenomenal personal music ideas…so let us listen to your own music (as you did with the magnificent Paice/Ashton/Lord)…mine was just a suggestion which find its meaning if considered during the selection material time…

October 25th, 2010 at 13:55Can’t see the point in bringing in a second Keyboard player. Much rather a good guitarist and hopefully a Rockin’ Record. It’s been 8 years since Jon left Purple and has been doing the Orchestra thing ever since. As with Blackmore, it’s time to Heavy IT UP a little don’t you think? I also have no problem with doing a few covers of Purple or whatever he chooses from the past as long as the main body of the output is Original Material. I’m sure he misses his stint with Purple more than he cares to admit. So go ahead and do some of that. The main thing is, I want to see you Rock the Hammond around just once more as you did during California Jam. “Crank it and Spank it”!!!!!

Yep, still here…..
Although my pc is now in repair for almost 3 weeks due to virusses I got from several bad asses and the flue the repair lady appearantly is struck bye…….
I go to the libary now and then.
Terrible, because its as slow as a pc from a decade ago.
Well, a bit of detox cant be bad, I think.
I love to see Jon doing the physical exercise behind the Hammond which maybe is the most essential instrument of the DP sound.
But I ve been told Jons back cant take that anymore,it already got ruined during the Artwoods….. ,so…
As far as I recall Jon did more than just the Orchestra thing.
I did not like Jimmy , the shouter, Barnes as a singer but apart from that, the rythym and blues outfit was not very classical IMHO.
Two keyboardplayers reminds me of PAL.
I m not longing for it either but maybe we should not be that spoiled to complain again.
Its kinda funny.
Here in Holland a certain politican from the left has been ridiculed over and over again because he went to see representatives of a so called minority eye to eye over a tea gathering.
That instead of acting less subtle like a lot of angry civilians wanted.
In the USA the right appearantly likes to drink a lot of tea.

I’m really interested to see what will come out of this, and as I’m lucky enough to know the lovely Anna personally (indeed yo’ve linked to one of my videos), then I know it’s going to be something very special indeed. It’s about time the great British public got to know what a vibrant and talented violinist they are lucky enough to have within their shores.
