Another BCC album before the tour?
In an interview with billboard.com, Black Country Communion drummer Jason Bonham says the band is talking about recording a second album before going on tour in 2011.
The band’s debut album is released in the UK and the rest of Europe on Monday September 20th, followed by a North American release on Tuesday September 21st.
Since Bonham is touring with the “Led Zeppelin Experience” in the fall, I imagine the other members of Black Country Communion also have outstanding commitments that require attention before a tour is possible.
Although a second album so soon after the first (Deep Purple–are you listening?) is a bit extraordinary for a group who has yet to see the release of the first, it does provide the band the opportunity to draw on a larger repertoire without having to rely too much on music from the background of the various members.
August 13th, 2010 at 03:03Prediction: The album will go down like the proverbial Lead Balloon. I can’t wait for it but it won’t be a big enough seller to warrant a proper tour or even a second album. Selected dates in the U.S. & Euroasia maybe but not a full world tour.SO………. Glenn will want to Funk again,Joe will want to further his solo career,Jason will realize all his Zep’ tribute tour fantasy dreams and Derek will not turn his back on Dream Theater. This will probably got he way of Iommi/Hughes & FUSED.
August 13th, 2010 at 09:16Better a second album now then studio outtakes in 10 years or as an extra cd packed with a rerelease of the first.
But anyway I won’t complain. What I heard from the first sounded good so why not a second . Gives them at least enough songs to play instead of songs of there own repertoire.
See it as a new way of making a double album. hehe
Cheers
August 13th, 2010 at 15:37Woow…!!!! We’ve got a fortune teller here! DRDP – The Prophecy!!!
August 13th, 2010 at 16:40They probably have a few tracks already recorded that didn’t make it on the first album. Plus they are taking advantage of their enthusiasm Now and getting ahead of the game. They probably see the handwriting on the wall and already expect it to be short run but wish to document their efforts by offering as much material as they can in celebration of it. This way, if the tour show promise and there actually is a push to continue, they will already have another album in the can to offer.
Wish Purple would take heed.
Cheers

Derek left Dream Theater a long time ago, he was only there for three years. He’s been Billy Idol’s keyboard player for years now.
August 13th, 2010 at 18:24@ 2 and 4
Ouch!!!!!!
Whahaha!!!
I hope it WILL take off.
I suggest people not to wait as soon they arrive.
That could be a big mistake.
One you might regret later on.
August 13th, 2010 at 20:16@2 and 4 and 7, (Too humorous when all is typed and done! :>),
Beware of fortune tellers! The odds are always against them!
@5, Amen sister! Guys, take heed. My favorite banjo player, (Ritchie, you remain one of them….) Sir Steve alone, has a gazillion and one superb ideas for Team Purple! Other Team Members take heed!
#6, Never say never, you and all wannabee prophesiers who remain insignificant in The Grand Scheme of Things, but I don’t see the extremely talented Jordan Rudess as leaving the Dream Theater camp any time soon. Sidenote Central- He had a brief stint playing live in The Dixie Dregs years ago. As much of a musical education as time testing for credits and the desired degree in Berklee! NO DOUBT!
Enjoy it all!
Sidenote Central, part 2- This pool guy, who has been running the tables for years, has been rumoured to be getting set for retirement. At least from what the bar prophesiers have been moaning about. I questioned him over an hour ago before his 16th beer and 32’nd match. He simply smiled and said, “Leave ’em wondering!”
Peace,
ted
All blogs remain so entertaining to type the least!
August 15th, 2010 at 16:47Did I already tell ya I did see half of the Dregs due to Steve s involvement, ahem, in DP, and attending a gig by Planet X around 2000?
My memory is not completely clear on this one but I seem to recall, besides the great EDGE OF INSANITY man on guitar, also Derek Sherinian on keys and ……whats his name again……the bassplayer of the Dregs as well.
Unfortunately the sound was deafening in a already very depressing location called BAROEG in Rotterdam so I was too hard to listen to.
That night I might have sown the seeds of my destruction in a certain area as well meeting this woman…….
August 15th, 2010 at 21:40@ 8 – I thought hat the Dixie Dregs were a three-piece band.
To have seen half of them must have been messy as this would have been one and a half people.
August 15th, 2010 at 22:52Ted @#8….
Really??? After all this time, and correspondence on this site, you call me ‘sister’? Just clik on my name and watch and listen to they Guy on the Drum Kit, playing and singing Warpigs….Dude, come on….
Cheers
August 16th, 2010 at 02:10sjc @#10….
Actually you probably have his Solo band (which is a 3 piece usually) confused with the Dregs. There were 5 members playing for the Dregs, along with many guests. See below:
Current line-up
Steve Morse – guitar (1970 – Present)
T Lavitz – keyboards (1978 – Present)
Rod Morgenstein – drums (1973 – Present)
Jerry Goodman – violin (1992 – Present)
Dave LaRue – bass guitar (1988 – Present)
Former members
Allen Sloan, M.D. – violin (1973 – 1981, 1992)
Frank Josephs – keyboards (1974 – 1975)
Steve Davidowski – keyboards (1975 – 1977)
Mark Parrish – keyboards (1977 – 1978)
Jordan Rudess – keyboards (1994, filled in for T Lavitz)
Mark O’Connor – violin (1981 – 1982)
Andy West – bass guitar (1970 – 1988, 2000)
Snowy White – guitar
Quite an ensemble of fine players over the years….
Cheers
August 16th, 2010 at 17:46Yeah, I probably should have said 2/5ths of the Dregs/
And sorry for temporarily not finding La Rue s name in my grey coma brain.
I saw him twice in London when he was part of the Concerto 1999 event.
Even worse, I forgot the guitarplayers name.
I have that tape somehere.
I like his EDGE OF INSANITY ALBUM!!!
Hell, whats his name again?!
Have to succumb and admit defeat and google it or something……
Oh Dear…..
Tony Mcal Pine,that his name!!!!
I did not really dive in a lot of guitar albums but way back I felt it had more than Satriani and Morse.
Did like the Vinnie Moore solo albums of way back as well.
Maybe I should taste some more now the Internet is providing me with such a wealth to shop around.
August 17th, 2010 at 11:06Had to find the drummers name on the Net as well.
VIRGIL DONATI!!!!
Must be Italian or something again.
Even more interesting…..
WIKI says Tony rejoined the Planet X band around april 2009.
Is Planet X still a forthgoing project besides Black Country Communion for Derek?
August 17th, 2010 at 11:12If I had a dollar for every time I heard about a tour of the states with Glenn Hughes I would be rich!!!
August 20th, 2010 at 09:54On this past Wednesday’s Rockline appearance plans are to go into the studio in January 2011 for the second album.
September 10th, 2010 at 19:43I have seen some pretty negative reviews about the BCC album and I just don’t get it. They have brought back the music that actually will be worth listening to for generations. Some of these writers that write music reviews are more than likely the writers that make reviews on Top 40 BS music of today.
September 25th, 2010 at 23:23I have to say that I’m actually inspired to listen to their music. So much more inspired than what you would hear on the radio today.
I will look forward to the next BCC album.
And by the way I totally agree that Derek does not play quite enough on the record.
@ 17
You just reminded me of Janis Ian.
Run too fast, fly to highhhhhhhhhhh……
Where did you read those negative reviews?
I did not encounter them.
Can you post a link to those scriblings, please?
Thanx, mark
