Jon Lord and Rick Wakeman joining forces in 2011?
Rick Wakeman reports in his monthly column titled “Grumpy Old Rick’s Ramblings” not only that he spent a most enjoyable evening with Jon Lord at the Thames Valley University doing a Q&A with some students, he also reports that
Jon and I also talked about some future joint concerts together which hopefully will happen next year. We both love the use of orchestras and it seems a very natural progression.
Question is why it took them nearly 40 years to find out 🙂
WOW! That would be awesome! Unfortunately I doubt they would come to the States….:(
May 4th, 2010 at 18:23Oh, I would so go to that concert. How aweswome would that be.
May 4th, 2010 at 22:20WooooooooooooW!!!
two greatest rock-keyboardists ever!
May 5th, 2010 at 01:32though I should say, Jon is #1 for me. the next Rick, and then Don.
Wish to see those three working together
And both of them have said they would love to do something with Ritchie Blackmore…how’s this for a unique ˙˙power trio˙˙ Lord/Wakeman/Blackmore…well one can only dream…even if they are weird dreams, lol!
May 5th, 2010 at 16:45How about Lord, Wakeman and Emerson? That would be cool.
May 5th, 2010 at 20:57what ever they do the main thing is that they record it and put it out (I would stick with Jon and Rick). It would be such a pity if they did just a couple of concerts and the rest of the world to miss out. And I agree lets get Blackmore in on it too.
May 7th, 2010 at 11:36Forget Blackmore…..what’s the point. It’s a Keyboard extravaganza. I say bring in Don Airey. Top 3 keyboarders hands down. Pavarotti used to do. Hook up with 2 other great Opera singers for “Tree Tenors”. And as Satriani does with Steve Vai and a 3rd guitarist for “G3”. These 3 could go out as “3 on the Ivory Tower”, jamming some kick ass Hammond….
Gotta look outside the Black Box.
Cheers
May 11th, 2010 at 19:36Anyone remember how Jon introduced himself in 1974 on the Live in London album?
May 12th, 2010 at 11:05“And my name is … Rick Emerson”. 😉 How fitting.
Still I think the sum would be less than the individual parts taken together. Who needs two keyboard players on stage, except, of course, when the two are Jon and Don sharing the job at occasional concerts?
Alright, OK, Lord and Ashton were certainly another fabulous exception.
May 12th, 2010 at 11:06I agree with Stephen. There (hopefully) are many of us in America who appreciate “all” of the things that DP members have recorded over the years. For logistical reasons, or if they’re tired of feeling as though they just need to play “the hits” when they come over, I’m not sure. So, if Jon and Rick join forces, and only end up with a short European tour, then I probably can’t afford to fly over – but I will buy the recording!
May 12th, 2010 at 12:57As ffitz said above:
May 12th, 2010 at 13:19Jon Lord, Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson would be the ultimate climax.
