Remembering John Coletta
Fame Games‘ Radio Show dedicated to the memory of John Coletta was aired in two parts back on July 19 and 26th, 2006. The show obviously covered a good chunk of Purple history with Derek Lawrence, among many other people, on the phone.
Recording of that show is now posted on Youtube for everybody to listen:
Thanks to Daniel Bengtsson and wally roundhead for the info.
Very enjoyable.
Would like to have this on DVD but that will probably be too far from reality again?
Btw, for now this……
Wasnt Martin Birch available for input about Coletta?
And not to mention all DP members who did work with him?
Isnt it strange that ONLY Ritchie Blackmore did react, by email!!!!!
Always thought Ritchie does not make phonecalls, let alone do Internet……
I ma bit forgetful sometimes but…..
Wouldnt it have been informative to ask both Coletta and Edwards about how THEY managed Mark 2 around 1972?
Are THEY not one of the main reasons the band collapsed after too much work?
Did Coletta, only now it dawned upon me he had ITALIAN BLOOD as well.
So, Iommi, DIO, Turner, 2 Appice brothers, Rondinelli,…..who else?
I used to think Tony Carey is of Italian breed as well….Not?~
Well, this was just a part of my thinking through everything while seeing the youtubes.
Cheers, Mark
March 8th, 2010 at 16:45I seem to remember someone high up in the DPAS once saying that Martin Birch wanted big bucks for talking. I once suggested he be interviewed as the secret 6th member of the band… I believe he’s 100% retired now. When he gets low on cash he’s bound to write a book…. If he hasn’t already done so.

There’s also an article on John and the artists as well as more insight in the very early days of Purple and the collaboration with Tony Edwards.

were heard from for this radio tribute, according to the fame game internet site, as above linked.
There’s yet some stories to be written on Deep Purple and it’s history, and I hope that some people out there with insider knowledge and as being part of it will make an effort to put pen to paper.
No one mentioned, and no one forgotten…
March 8th, 2010 at 21:17Nice to hear Tony confirm Ritchie driving through the front of a hotel. It was in fact a Jaguar he bought across the street and proceeded to ram through the doors of the hotel. It still wouldn’t be till many years later when he actually learned to drive and eventually did get his license, I believe he was 50 by then, or near it. He supposedly had someone with him write out checks to the dealership and hotel… must’ve been hefty enough at the hotel to more than cover it.
March 9th, 2010 at 00:06Dear Andrea
Thanx for thinking with me but I do also have the impression NOT everyone on your list is directly or indirectly related to the Purps.
I saw Whitesnake on Monsters Of Rock in Utrecht 1990 and AEROSMITH blew them off stage that time, so maybe thats why you could drag Steven Tyler into the scheme?
Or is it Ronnie James Dios cover version of DREAM ON?
Etc.
In that sense everything is connected ofcourse, hehehe
Incl ME trying to sing and drum over background DP music when I was a teen!!!!
Did a good version of JEALOUS LOVER I was told(….)
Tapes were erased unfortunately.
Or not…….
Right now listening to a copy of Grahams Bonnets contribution to ANTHEMS “Heavy Metal Anthem”.
Finally!!!!!
I never got around buying it because it was always expensive and still.
Reluctantly I asked a friend to provide me with a copy, downloaded from the Net.
I dunno how that works, I dont have a passion for the technical aspects of the computer and Internet.
At the ALCATRAZZ gig I recently attended in Kerkrade I asked the man behind the table who was selling Bonnet related material about it.
The man, who is the current bassplayer in the band, said even he had trouble finding it.
Such a shame, things like that.
Well, off thread maybe although Bonnet is ofcourse part of the Purple Puzzle.
March 9th, 2010 at 13:13@6 Areosmith blowing Whitesnake off the stage? term “blow” seems appropriate to describing the over-rated A-smith. As for G Bonnet–always a dark -horse favorite in my collection.

DC was in a bad shape and surrounded by fiddlers
Aerosmith had a real decent LIVE performance.
Around me girls who never knew much of the music that happened before 87, the singles.
Did not know SLIDE IT IN and so on
In the meantime they were standing upfront and in my way!!!!!
Ofcourse DC did not mind, preferring lovely shallow girls instead of a critical fan that had been following him since 1977
