Calm in the Oasis
Deep Purple added to the bill at Rock Am See.
“It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan.” said Noel Gallagher last night. However this means that Deep Purple will be taking the place of Oasis at the Rock am See festival in Konstanz.
No Oasis – VERY fine with me.
August 29th, 2009 at 16:00Good riddance……I for one wont miss them, overrated,hyped and…well, just plain crap !
Congrats to the punters at “Rock Am See” who insted are blessed with a true class act….The mighty DEEP PURPLE!!!! ROCK ON!
August 29th, 2009 at 20:08Just heard they’re filling in for another of Oasis’ shows in Milan tomorrow.
August 29th, 2009 at 22:55they will replace oasis in milan as well. concert is tonight (30/8).
August 29th, 2009 at 23:46“Every cloud has a silver lining.”
Purple may be considered the ‘silver lining’ in this instance.
I have no doubt Oasis will be back in one form or another, given time.
August 30th, 2009 at 06:34This is not a change … allways an improvement / upgrade (Who has named himslf as the best band of the world ? Noel or Liam G. ? LoL )

August 30th, 2009 at 08:09deep purple for oasis…this mean a much better festival…
August 30th, 2009 at 13:09another one which will not be there in 40 years time not like our band….. DEEP PURPLE.
August 30th, 2009 at 15:18AND YES AGAIN DP is there to be “en tete d’affiche”.
they are not fashionable they don’t do much noise (expect on stage…) and they are here when someone need them.
good on you guys keep on rocking smoothly.
long live DP .
The promotors must have panicked when all this went down. We should be proud that they considered Deep Purple to be a safe bet to carry the night. They would never have been asked had they not had quite a lot of credibility. MIKE
August 30th, 2009 at 16:42Oasis…..a Beatle based tribute band I believe. I seem to remember the John Lennon impersonator in front. Who cares…..
Purple should do more of these Festivals….
It’s time they take Charge of who they are and Lead the pack as they should….
Cheers and Congrats on a good move. Now if only their promoters would get off their Arse and do things proper…
August 30th, 2009 at 18:44a replacement for Oasis? more like a huge upgrade. kudos to the staff who pulled this one out of the hat.
August 30th, 2009 at 23:22Take charge? Lead the pack? What? The last time Deep Purple were ˙˙in charge of the pack˙˙ was in 1993. These days it’s more like an Ian Gillan band or a Deep Purple mkII tribute band with some IG band songs thrown in. Dont get me wrong, they are still a fine live band but faaaar from what Deep Purple was and should be as a live act. If this continues it will be equal to a circus show that leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
August 31st, 2009 at 11:05It was a fantastic evening – I really enjoyed it! Thanks to Deep Purple for helping the promoters and for given us a wonderful evening!
August 31st, 2009 at 19:11@ 12
I know where you re coming from but I wish they would do some IGB songs or Gillan solo stuff
Naked Thunder anybody~?
August 31st, 2009 at 23:15#12….
Don’t know what you are smoking, but they are playing Deep Purple Songs. Damn good ones too…If you’ve been that unhappy for the past 16 years, I think it’s time to move on don’t you?????
Cheers
September 1st, 2009 at 01:27I read a lot of reviews from the 30 Aug Milan show, and I gotta say, Oasis fans are amazed by Deep Purple’s performance.
September 1st, 2009 at 12:36It’s kinda strange for me, but 15-18-20 yrs old INDIE fans enjoyed real rock music, they even sang hits along with Purple…
and some OASIS FAN wrote on Oasis forum “Noel and Liam… you should be there, on Purple’s show…. just to learn how to rock”, I loved this comment…
Great, they also played to 30 000 Oasis fans in Germany

I do move on but I stick with the best stuff 😉 I do like all studio offerings since Purpendicular – well sans Abandon – and I enjoyed Rapture immensly. But for the past few years Deep Purple are turning into a boring money making live act. Yes, like #14 said, it would be better if they played some IG Band songs and some Dixie Dregs jam’s. Instead of this same old same old…And papa time catches everyone. Gillan isnt sounding any better and Paice has slowed down and became a shadow of his former glory self. I wont even mention Airey and Morse as they are simply a poor replacement for Lord and Blackmore. Yes a replacement. Even Airey obviously sees himself as a hired gun only (obvious from reading that latest interview).
Maybe for someone who never saw them live or for 18 year old kids (or fanatics) Deep Purple can sound pretty damn great live but for those who see the clear picture its obvious how weak they are. Like I said, always will be a good live band but Purple should be more than that.
They are just going around the world for one reason MONEY. Thats why they continue to play old mkII hits the audience (not the fans, not true ones anyway) want to hear.
I know im probably responding to a fanatic who will never see things as they are and thats cool. As long as you enjoy it. But right now, even JLT and Ritchie in the band would make a world of difference. Yes you heard me right. MK V was a live band waaaay beyond what Purple is today and as bad as JLT could be…it cant be worse then how Ian sounds these days while singing Highway Star and Into The Fire…and dont get me started on the poor lead skills of the limited Morse and the zero chemistry between him and Airey.
September 1st, 2009 at 13:34After DP split we got lost in a downward spiral generally
Their often great off shoots kept on carrying the flag of TRUE MUSIC which as every real rockfan should know around 1974…….
Labeled too old, SIC!!!!, and arrogant and so on they were replaced in the hearts and minds of both the media and the masses by punk and other drivel
Since then tons of new bands have been introduced and young people often not eager to dig a bit deeper or just plain ignorant because of stupid selfindulgent media felt that current bands had to be the top of the mountain…..
Sometimes a miracle happened
A youngster surprised by THE QUALITY of older generations of musicians got enthusiastic and digged deeper …..
The torch was carried on…..
Even then—-
Music is just one of the many subcultures in which people tend to drown and confine themselves in.
So I m not surprised that those people, like friends I know with same tastes, NEVER broke out of the box
They even kept proclaiming that bands like NIRVANA, PEARL JAM, NINE INCH NAILS, OASIS, BLUR, and tons of others……were THE THING to stick with.
TASTE…..
Its an opinion, RB once modest said when Tommy Vance suggested that DP brought back taste in music when they reformed……
It was 25 years ago today , I was at school and felt proud they came back.
Very often they did not reach the peaks they once had.
Very ironically and very sad they sort of found their form back in the Tour of 1993.
And then destruction set in again……
Fortunately there is much more outside DP, like Dead Can Dance for example….
Or……
BACH!!!!!
September 1st, 2009 at 13:38ad
around 1974 rockmusic peaked and was truly involved…..
September 1st, 2009 at 13:50Naked Thunder?
No thanks! Easily at the bottom of his body of solo work for me.
A mess and a half with by far the worst producer he worked with since Steve Smith.(Leif may be good and all, but wrong for Ian)
Nice to see that Purple can even get billed on the same festival as Oasis, let alone repleace them as the headliner.
September 1st, 2009 at 17:55Not everyone is happy about the Oasis split-up:

😀
September 2nd, 2009 at 11:42Actually I meant to pick out a few here and there…..
And I like songs like
Gut Reaction
September 2nd, 2009 at 15:55No Good Luck
Love Gun
Moonshine
I have to say I’m surprised at all the nasty comments we get about Oasis here. What’s so evil about them? Ok, the Gallaghers are pricks but so are couple of guys from the Purple family too. I’m not a big fan but they sure know how to write songs and they play for real as a real band. I find it hard to imagine them using too much pre-recorded vocals or stuff like that.
An honest rock band with a bunch of weird people involved. Sounds like Purple in some of it’s incarnations. 🙂
September 3rd, 2009 at 09:43Deep Purple are a fantastic band these days, infact a lot of good music exist today.
I dont weep over what once was, life is just too short for that crap! I leave those thought to the sad and depressed!
DP music didnt die in 1993 it just got better
September 3rd, 2009 at 16:16I´ll tell you why Svante ! Some reasons you´ve mentioned yourself, but the main reason for my personal resentment is simple: they´re totally rip offs of another hugely overrated and superhyped band called The Beatles…..that´s why !
An honest rock band ???? What´s honest about them, and above all: WHAT´S ROCK ABOUT THEM ??????
September 3rd, 2009 at 18:16A ‘couple’ from the Purple family????
September 3rd, 2009 at 19:07Blackmore and Turner are the only two I can think of. Of course you aren’t calling Gillan a prick.lol!
I’m with you Svante, yes, what’s so evil about them? I think their last album was absolutely great and they are a real band. Why are people trying to be so negative?
September 4th, 2009 at 08:19@stefan: I sill don’t get it. It sounds like you’re extremely upset just by the mention of Oasis. If you don’t like them, ignore them. There’s no need to insult them. Sadly though, the Oasis fans are probably saying the same bad things about DP. What is it with people that can only enjoy one band or genre at the time? And as for rock, opening an album with a song called “Fuckin’ In The Bushes” is pretty rock’n’roll to me. 🙂
@Crimson Ghost: There you have the couple! 🙂
September 4th, 2009 at 08:53@27 so you are calling Blackmore and Turner pricks and Gillan is not? He’s as big as any of them and there’s plenty of written and taped material to prove that.
September 4th, 2009 at 10:13Dear Svante!
I like loads of bands and they all rock……..Oasis just don´t, no matter what they call their songs…..just my humble opinion ! Oh, by the way Noel & Liam…..City SUCKS !:D

September 11th, 2009 at 13:20I have been very happy lately
All that phenomenal Beatles music…..
Wowwwwww
Fantastic……
It makes me feel so good!!!!
Another spin for Cherkazoo then….
September 12th, 2009 at 00:31Changed my mind again….
Did pull out THE JAPANESE GILLAN ALBUM…..
Next to future Shock and Toolbox my favourite Gillan solo outing….
September 13th, 2009 at 12:07Maybe interviewers should ask how he feels these albums compare with his recent solo effort?
