Montreux on German TV
German TV channel ZDFdokukanal is currently showing a documentary about Montreux Jazz Festival. From what we understand, the film includes an extensive interview with Claude Nobs and covers both the story of burning down the gambling house and the recent Deep Purple appearances at the festival. The documentary started airing on April 25 and will be shown again on May 1 at 12:00 and 23:00.
Thanks to Denis Zürcher for the info.
During my last InterRail trip in the summer of 1990 I went to the Lake Of Geneva Shoreline as well.
Ofcourse because I had to see the place of THE song.
It wasnt empty, cold and bare.
On the contrary.
It was …..well…. hot………
Strolling along the place with my backpak loaded with too much as usual and plastic bags full of stuff, I m a bit Strange Kinda Of Man as you well might know by now…..
I watched the water and surroundings and tryed to FEEL something of way back.
I fell ill after boarding the train and leaving Geneva because I drank milk and beer too soon after one another, that sucked.
I still felt I sort of experienced a bit of Deep Purple atmosphere.
May 1st, 2009 at 13:17It’ a One Hour show and was aired in the US also about 2 months ago, on the ‘Ovation Channel’. When they aired it here, they also presented a separate One Hour episode which covered the 2006 Festival that the Deep Purple DVD was recorded from. They showed the various bands playing a couple of songs. To my surprise, they showed 2 Purple tunes, both from “Rapture of the Deep”. ‘Things I Never Said, and Rapture of the Deep’. Really caught me off guard. I thought for sure the normal play of Smoke or Highway Star would be the choice. Great to see the Newer stuff getting some attention on this.
FYI, presently on the same channel “Ovation” in the US, they are running another One Hour coverage of the ‘2004 Montreux Jazz Festival’. In this case Purple gets 2 songs shown again, but it is ‘Smoke on the Water and Highway Star’. Love the Jazz intro to Smoke. When the show ends and the credits are rolling, they also use Purple playing ‘Highway Star’ as the background also…..nice touch.
Cheers

May 1st, 2009 at 14:48Does anybody know who’s the female singer who sang this version of Smoke On The Water when the show ends? And is it available on cd?
PS: Me and my wife were in Montreux to see Deep Purple in 2006. It was her first DP-concert and she was quite impressed. And Montreux has it’s own special atmosphere. It’s great to be there. Go and see, if you can.
