I also feel this should have been a side project instead of what has happened now.
I wished for a more authentic approach than this mix of styles as well.
Still, every album has moments and songs in which HIS MAGIC shines through.
In a cynical view you could say he is teasing us since 1997 with this approach
He still can play the electric guitar like NO ONE can, everyone who witnessed them live knows that.
I , from a point of view that every 3 seconds of MAGIC is worth the admission alone, should go see a show but bailed out already a few times.
So much for being a worshipper.

And if it wasnt Blackmore behind the lute, would these die-hard fans give this ‘renaissance’ shite a chance? Probably not!
Its the expectation that theirs something ‘magic’ in there………….a return to ‘form’

Still, if thats your ‘bag’………and you buy these albums as further additions to your growing ’14th-17th’ music collection…….good for you……
I guess the truth is………Die hard fans buy the this music cos its Blackmore……
And theyd still buy it if he did an album of Dolly Partons greatest hits, played on spoons…

I would apply the whole silly “quantity versus quality” factor here more than to any other Purple family artist forging on.(argue all you want with that, it’s highly suspect in that department, if anything is)

I am a huge fan of Ritchie’s , but would really like to see him do something different now. The Albums are starting to sound alot alike. Time to move on to other areas in music, perhaps a Blues lp or a Progressive release focusing on the music again, especially the Stratocaster battling with the Hammond Organ. It’s time!!!!!!!
March 30th, 2009 at 19:36The BN phenomenon actually has little to do with the Blackmore issue. There is a growing appreciation for this type of music. Renaissance Festivals are becoming quite the attraction these days and a growing trend is evident. I saw them in North Carolina and spoke to many in attendance. The vast majority were there due only in connection with the type of music that was being played. Believe it or not, for the most part, the few who were there for Blackmore were not familiar with BN and thought they were going to see a Guitar God perform. Instead they were disappointed to find the Lute Prince in his place. Quite amusing to see. I enjoyed the gig because I actually like BN style of music. I’ve been going to Renaissance Festivals for years now. Way before BN was conceived and it makes it that much better that I can enjoy some Blackmore during an outing I look forward to. Amazing how many folks that attend these festivals know of Blackmore’s Night, but are totally amazed that Deep Purple are still a band….’There are many worlds within worlds’…….

March 31st, 2009 at 00:04Stoffer, if that is a response to me, then let me just state that I truly wish to see and hear a hard rock effort from TMIT someday. But in the meantime, I do enjoy this venture he has taken and it has spread out the Purple music to yet another horizon, as with “Roger Glover’s Butterfly Ball”, “Deep Purple and JON LORDS Concerto”, The “Wizards Convention”, every members solo projects…..
Many of which I do not enjoy, except for the fact that I hear each one of them in performance, playing or singing and due to my being the collector and fan of all things Purple, I find myself listening to music I otherwise would not have given a chance. BN is actually one of my most listened to ‘Spin Offs’, mainly due to me and my wife’s attraction the Renaissance era and making that the theme for our Castleous home we have put together. It’s always playing in that wing of the house…..
So, it’s NOT WHAT TURNS ME ON…..It’s One of the things THAT TURNS ME ON. And there are many….

March 31st, 2009 at 19:04You want a different BN sound? You would have to do a line-up change for that. Mainly the singer. That always seems to be where he responds the most regarding his style of play. Just as with Purple and Rainbow. MK1 all 3 albums had basically the same sound….MK2-harder and softer but that sound was basically the same….MK3-Same. The same for Rainbow. The only time there were truly different Sounds from Blackmore was in the change of his fellow musicians. Otherwise (sorry Blackmore Worshippers) as with Blackmore’s Night, it’s pretty much the same stuff, just in different order…
Still Love him though, but not enough to put on the Blackmore Blinders…he he he.

I wasn’t responding to you negatively, nor did I think you were directing to me.
I was just putting my 2 cents in (as usual) that’s all. I am not criticizing you for not caring for BN. I just injecting my opinion on the subject that’s all. One thing I never do is try to force or entice someone into liking something they don’t like. That’s an impossible task and unnecessary. Each likes what they like and there is nobody who should judge a person regarding their taste. Sharing ones feelings about the things they like with others is what it’s all about. “Black or White”. “Straight or Gay”. “Blackmore or Morse”. To each their own and so be it…..
As I stated above, I happen to be into that style of music and have had records and CDs from other variants of it before Blackmore’s Night was conceived. Now I get the joy of listening to it along with having Blackmore in there also, and it doubles my pleasure so to speak…
