Whitesnake on the highway
Judas Priest have announced on their official website some North American tour dates, starting July 1st and going into the early August. They have also stated that they will be touring with Whitesnake for most of the dates, but not all of them. So far, there is nothing on Whitesnake.com.
Thanks to Blabbermouth.net for the info.

DAVID COVERDALE is an essential part of rock history; starting with his time with DEEP PURPLE (1973–1976) and his collaboration with LED ZEPPELIN guitarist JIMMY PAGE, ( 1991-1994 ) a sensational partnership featuring two legendary artists working together at a most extraordinary musical level.

March 18th, 2009 at 17:28hats off to old cov! anybody with a brain will tell you package tours are the way forward and this one is a great idea. purple take note…
March 18th, 2009 at 20:26@6
March 19th, 2009 at 01:37Disagree… but why should Purple take note when they’ve been doing package tours for so long now? Where have you been?
I failed to mention I’d rather stay home that witness this, although I like both bands, I’m not into this combination at all.
March 19th, 2009 at 01:38Just found out that Minnesota will be visited twice during this tour, I’m going! I remember a few years ago seeing DEEP PURPLE opening for LYYNRD SKYNRD, and thinking that was a mismatch. It turned out to be a quite enjoyable show.
March 19th, 2009 at 04:28#6
Disagree. What note is to be taken??
Deep Purple has many tours with other acts such as Cheap Trick, Nazareth, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Scorpions, Concerto for Orchestra, and many others. Don’t you know?
UNLIKE WHITESNAKE IN THIS UPCOMING TOUR AND IN ‘ROCK OF AGES IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT’ TOUR, DEEP PURPLE WAS THE DEFINITIVE HEADLINE ACT. So tell me, who should take a note??
——–
I predict many people here and there will compare the multiple octave of Rob Halford voice with Coverdale’s voice. Who’s gonna deliver the best every night among them? Sorry, but I think I know the answer of my question. Coverdale was may hero and one of the best in his early Whitesnake, not now in which he looks like amateur and horrible screamer with his glam metal tracks.
Well, I can only dream he will be back in tune.
Cheers
March 19th, 2009 at 04:45a singer and a screamer on the same bill–sounds good to me. I love ’em both. Also-didn’t R. Glover produce one of JP’s most successful albums? I thought I read that years ago. thanks.
March 19th, 2009 at 12:01He produced ‘Stained Class’
March 19th, 2009 at 14:00Coverdale is an exceptional singer and screamer too!!!
March 19th, 2009 at 15:58or better was…
I met Bernie Marsden on Monday night cool guy
March 19th, 2009 at 17:58#14 Yor’re dead right there Diarmuid, and his renditions of Whitesnake Classics knocks DC’s recent efforts into a cocked hat.
March 19th, 2009 at 21:26I WONNDER WHEN I READ OTHER PEOPLES COMMENTS ON THE HIGHWAY STAR NO MATTER WHAT THE PERSON SAYS ONLY IF HE OR SHE HAVE THE GOD GIFTED ABILITY TO PLAY OR SING MUSIC. IF YOU DO NOT THEN IN MY OPINION YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO CRITICISE ANY MUSICIAN EVEN IF THEY IN FACT ARE REALLY NO GOOD. I WILL REMIND ANY ONE THAT IN MUSIC THERE IS NO ONE OR GROUP THAT IS AS GOOD AS DEEP PURPLE. BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT GOD INTENDED. GIVE GOD ALL THE GLORY BECAUSE HE DESERVES IT. GET IN A GOOD STATE OF MIND, LISTEN TO DEEP PURPLE AND ENJOY LIFE. FRIEND AND FAN OF DEEP PURPLE SINCE 1968. FRANK MILLER.
March 19th, 2009 at 22:46hahaha, was that real Frank Miller? 😀
well… Do NOT even try to compare Whitesnake to Deep Purple…
WS can teach NOTHING to DP…
and yeah, this WS & DL Tour 2008… how can they cal it Good To Be Bad Tour? Don’t they think that it was “Good To Be Def Leppard’s Supporting Act Tour”? and, in 2009 they can call it “Good To Be JP’s Supporting Band”
DP has always had package tours, but they always were as the MAJOR acts on the bill… and during WS / DL Tour, Snakes were opening act for the major act: Def Leppard…
March 20th, 2009 at 00:08#17
The WS & DL Tour named “Rock of Ages In The Still of The Night Tour”, toured England only (and in a few parts of Europe, but didn’t use that name).
In that tour (surprisingly became the best packaged tour of 2008) Def Leppard and Whitesnake initally slated as double headlining acts, so the main opener and the closer exchanged every night. Def Leppard has done package tour like this with Bryan Adams in 2005. But by the time, Def Leppard was slated as the headlining act while Whitesnake was positioned as the main opening act before DL. Some reports I heard revealed that the decision came from Whitesnake, refer to somethings like confidence, commercial success, quality and strength, and also popularity. Those are proved when many reviews and bootlegs show Def Leppard really stole all the show while Whitesnake especially Coverdale were struggling to do their best performance.
That case also happened when Def Leppard toured America with Journey in 2006 where initially both of them also slated as double headlining acts and as the concert goes, finally Def Leppard closed the rest of the concerts. It was very strange since Journey is American band and got huge success there with their Arena Rock music. Ironically, Def Leppard – Journey tour also became the best rock package tour of 2006, with DL-WS as the best tour of 2008. I’m a huge Def Leppard fan, but the thing I’d like to point out here is how Whitesnake has judged poorly to become an opening act. They’d better do their tour alone.
I think Deep Purple is the right one to join Judas Priest(of course as double headlining act). And I imagine how old and young metal heads will come to watch the show of two of rock giants that has been around for almost 40 years since hard rock was born. Other options for Deep Purple to tour together are Heaven and Hell, Iron Maiden, and maybe The Who I think could be a good idea(American tour with The Who will be a nice tour for Deep Purple).
But even if this seems strange and impossible, Led Zeppelin – Deep Purple tour will be a magical, unbelievable, and no wonder the best package tour all the time. Ha ha, I can only dream.
Or maybe Plant – Krauss could do it with Blackmore’s Night since their music looked similar in some way, hehe.
Cheers
March 20th, 2009 at 06:25TO GEORGE. ARE YOU A MUSICIAN? APARENTLY YOU HAVE A LEARNING DISABILITY.
March 20th, 2009 at 20:00@17
Okay, if you call DP opening an entire US tour for Lynyrd Skynyrd and swapping closing acts with the Scorpions every other night, “major” then so be it. They were also put to the energy test big time in 98 by ELP and Dream Theater, those two bands were hard to close for and sometimes they were anti climactic in doing so.
Nobody’s Perfect, George.
March 21st, 2009 at 08:11Dear Frank!
Bite me…………….!
March 23rd, 2009 at 06:40#11
Roger produced 1977’s “Sin After Sin” album for Judas Priest. Not one of their more successful albums, but it was their first one for CBS here in the US. They really didn’t have a successful album until 1979’s “Hell Bent for Leather” and their live album “Unleashed In The East” later that year.
March 24th, 2009 at 21:43TO STEFAN, I AM LIKE A LEMMON. YOU HAVE TO SQUEEZE AND SUCK ME. I HAVE NOT MENTIONED YOUR NAME IN MY RESPONSES SO WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?
March 25th, 2009 at 00:08Frank!
My problem??? #16…That´s my problem!
March 25th, 2009 at 04:14The word norrowminded comes to mind! And what has GOD to do with anything???
Clear enough Frank? ROCK ON!
I think Frank should keep his ‘squeezing’ and ‘sucking’ to himself!
March 25th, 2009 at 10:09TO STEPHAN AND RASCAL, YOU BOTH JUST PLAIN AND SIMPLY MISS THE BOAT ON WHAT I SAY. IF YOU LOOK BACK AT PREVIOUS STATEMENTS OF MINE I CLEARLY GIVE GOD CREDIT FOR EVERYTHING NOT ONLY FOR DEEP PURPLE,THE PURPLE FAMILY TREE AND THE HIGHWAY STAR. ALSO I DID NOT BRING ANY VULGARITY TO ANY OTHER RESPONDER PERSONALLY UNTIL I RECIEVED IT FIRST. HOWEVER WHEN THOSE THINGS I SAID EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT DESERVE WHAT WAS SAID TO ME BECAUSE ALL OF THIS TRASH TALK DOES NOT NEED TO BE SAID ESPECIALLY ON ANY PUBLIC WEBSITE.I AM SORRY FOR MY MISTAKES. ANY REMARKS I MADE I AM SORRY IF I OFFENED ANYONE.THIS IS MY LAST RESPONSE ON THE HIGHWAY STAR.
March 25th, 2009 at 23:31Dear Frank!
Apologise accepted. That said, I´m wondering if I somewhat misunderstood you, it´s just that I react with suspicion and disbelief when GOD is mentioned on this blog!
I consider myself a spiritual man, but try not to mix any religious mumbo jumbo into the world of music!
No need to be so touchy Frank, there´s room for everyone on this fab blog….Take care!! ROCK ON!!!
March 26th, 2009 at 04:57@ 26
Dont let it get to you Frank, its not worth it.
I dont mind you writing as long you close down the capitals.
Ok?
March 26th, 2009 at 13:30Give your god the glory he deserves…………
Although, a decent virgin sacrifice, Black Mass and after worship orgy………..has so much more appeal!
March 27th, 2009 at 16:37Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, tried that, been there , done that……
March 30th, 2009 at 16:33Well, I have to say here that I look forward to the WS/JP tour here in the States. I looks like we are being snubbed with a Purple showing so at least if they make it within driving distance, I can witness a couple of good shows. I would go to see either one on there own, so it’s a no-brainer here. Two the price of one. With these old hard rock bands these days, it’s all you will get here in the States. Shared bills. It seems to be the only way they can fill an arena. The Skynnrd/Purple tour went really well. Saw 2 of them and both times the venue was packed. Hopefully DC will choose some tunes more reflective of his present vocal ability. There are plenty of WS songs whereby he doesn’t have to overextend his range, and thereby giving him the ability for a ‘thumbs up’ review. Hopefully also, JP will do some tunes from their latest “Nostrodumus”. Hey, I stated that I would even go see JLT with OTR didn’t I? How could I not go see this?
Hey did anyone notice? Priest is commenting here and the thread is still open….WOW. Where’s that moderator??????
Cheers
March 30th, 2009 at 19:56Het is allang tijd dat deze onzin ophoudt, ja.
March 31st, 2009 at 22:23Great, now the Priest speaks in tongues…….
April 1st, 2009 at 22:14@32……It’s never ending!
April 3rd, 2009 at 14:54Well, I went to see WS and JP in San Diego Ca, and let me tell guys, It was a great concert, to me, WS played better than JP, in the end, it really don’t matter who is the opener or the closer, the most important thing to me is the opportunity to see and listen to the bands performance, that’s the real thing and that’s what we live for.
Cheers!
