J.R.: “I always only wanted a normal Dad”
Jürgen “J.R.” Blackmore talks about his career, his father and the Over The Rainbow project in a recent interview with Rockinform Magazine:
Your father is Ritchie Blackmore. How do you feel about it, that he’s a legendary guitarist?
Jürgen: – Oh well……it was a very hard childhood time for me because everyone is looking at you, as if you are something special…but i wasnt’. I was just a normal boy and I hated it (the way people reacted). Mostly I never told anybody about my surname…I never bragged about it. But gossip travels fast in the music business…. so in the end people found it out. I am proud that my father is a great guitarist but I always only wanted a normal Dad.

Thanks to Lisa Walker for the info.
I really hope this tour works and they write and record a new album, I would certainly go see them.
January 10th, 2009 at 02:30Cheers
I never seen J.R before. I’m looking forward for OTR in February.
January 10th, 2009 at 07:32Hahaha…. Over The Rainbow… JLT want to make another $50 more with this “project”? 😀
January 10th, 2009 at 11:54I for one hope this project has some legs and is successful. I wouldn’t mind seeing JOLT again after some 18 years since DP here in Htfd.,Ct in 1991. Tony Carey being from Stamford,Ct.Rondinelli from NYC & Greg Smith from the Tri-State area as well might insure a show in these parts. With Ritchie adamantly against any extended forays into Hard Rock ,J.R. would make a logical successor. I’ve listened to a few of his songs and read some of his thoughts in magazines & on the web. You can hear the influences of TMIB as well as detect the same philosophy in guitar playing & soloing from his interviews. Specifically having no desire to play too fast and trying to play rhythm & solo’s within the framework of the song which to me a hallmarks of dear old dads style.Looking forward to that U.S. Tour!
January 10th, 2009 at 13:15I really hope this tour works and they write and record a new album, I would certainly go see them.
please come to Marche (Italy region)
copy and paste stoffer,
January 10th, 2009 at 14:08I totally agree
George – go home. Sleep and rest for a few years, and then come back with some positive words here.
January 10th, 2009 at 14:50I look forward (BIG TIME) to this tour.
Bo I don’t agree with your attitude…
January 10th, 2009 at 18:57everyone is free to write what he thinks even if it’s different from your opinion…please respect…
You remind me Tracy Herder…
Poor Tracy
Being mixed up with some kinda dog
January 10th, 2009 at 22:17JLT deserves this.. He still is a great singer (see “Live in Germany”) and will be playing to larger audiences. But you have to admit, “Slaves & Masters” was a joke!!
January 11th, 2009 at 03:07Well put, it’s an oxymoron to have such talent yet not make it work often enough to be given credit for it, but so many have this problem.
January 11th, 2009 at 04:47Get these guys to Oz
January 11th, 2009 at 12:26Bo,
are you joking? can you imagine e.g
Rod evans – Vocals
Ian Paice’s SON – Drums
Don Airey – Keyboards
Steve Morse’s SON – Guitars
Nick Simper – Bass
and the project called “Over the Deep Purple”…
can you call such project Deep Purple related project?? I call such project DP’s family tree’s family’s members’ tribute to Deep Purple…
It’s not serious project, what JLT is doint now, is to get out as much money as he can by the names of the band he has ever sang for…
He’s poor… Gillan would never do DP tribute band, Coverdale would never do DP tribute band, Dio would never do and so on…
All of them made music (and money, as well) by their OWN bands and their own names (Gillan, Whitesnake, Dio)
and JLT seems like some provincial village-boy, who once achieved to sing in great band for 1-2 years and he can’t do anything anymore, thus he uses what he’s great former bandmates did before, to earn money for bread… hahaha 😀 man, It’s not serious and acceptable. this is why “Over the Rainbow” choose such a musically minor country as Russia. Because Joe knows, nobody needs poor Rainbow tribute band in Europe…
January 11th, 2009 at 12:38but for sure if they would change their name and record a new album everyone of us will buy it and probably go to their gigs…isn’t so?
January 11th, 2009 at 14:36Are they going to get the old rainbow out of storage? It’s in New York State somewhere, according to Blackmore Sr in an interview I read. ‘Course, they could always recreate it with a massive screen behind the stage, like Muse use.
January 11th, 2009 at 16:38Roberta, Roberta, Roberta……
How you see the world is very Child Like…..
Now YOU are the Etiquette Monitor? Come on. Though I disagree with BO’s over zealous anticipation from this Tribute Act, I don’t think YOU have the Cojone’s to throw me under the bus in order to make your simpleton personal point….
That being said…regarding the above ‘JR Blackmore’ interview, the question regarding a New Album came up:
{Do you plan on writing and recording new material with this line-up? If yes, what can you tell us about the new tracks you are currently working on?
Jürgen: – Like I said before….it is ultimately in the hands of the fans. If they love this lineup…we would do everything.}
So, they are going to go out, test the water and then if the World Falls to their feet, they may do the Right thing and produce an album….
Oh well, back to the JLT drawing board….
Cheers
January 11th, 2009 at 19:50Dou you disagree with Roberta?
January 11th, 2009 at 22:33if not why you complain?
can you read the words “isn’t so?’
and who is Roberta?….
‘I always only wanted a normal Dad’…….
Well Jürgen……….Prancing around the forest with the elves, a lute, tights, and pointy hat……will never quite be normal……so I guess you still ‘fucked’
C.S. Lewis wrote ….’Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again’
I bet Jürgen didnt realise his Dad would be appearing in a ‘fairy tale’
January 12th, 2009 at 09:39It will just be a good band playing fantastic songs. And that is always enjoyable: see for instance Joe Stump doing Rainbow and Purple stuff.
January 12th, 2009 at 09:46A normal Dad? Well I think that might have come officially impossible the day his Dad gave him a stepmother younger than himself. lol!
January 12th, 2009 at 17:27(I think that would effect anyone somehow, but hey, we all get over reality, even fantasy based reality)
Reality is worst than Fantasy, even in the Horror movies…
January 12th, 2009 at 20:23Always, but of course…
January 13th, 2009 at 06:00jajajaaaaaaaa. Over the purple is a excelent project. Congratulations George….you are the manager of OVER THE PURPLE??????. Maybe other project, OVER THE DANCE DOLAR, The Line Up????????:

January 26th, 2009 at 23:10but I’ve woke up with a few…….”
Tobacco and alcohol, delicious fathers of abiding friendships and fertile reveries

February 4th, 2009 at 08:22irene
I hope they make an album, they need a great singer! Why would band go on the road, with singer who lacks talent. Look forward to a CD with a new singer.
February 18th, 2009 at 00:48JLT lacks talent? He isn’t my favourite singer but he has been singing for a living for decades now. What do you call that? Just hard work?
February 19th, 2009 at 09:40Hey Jurgen,
October 13th, 2009 at 18:58Carry on, man! Your dad is wearing those Elizabethan pijamas yet he knows **** about Renaissance music. Too bad for the guy…. but you can keep the legend, don’t let Mrs Blackmore’$$$$ alienate you, man. Carry on like a ‘wayward child’……
Jurgen,
October 14th, 2009 at 07:33I’ve seen both you and your dad play live. I have cd’s by both of you too. Don’t you think you could just dust off a bit that ‘Ritchie’ pseudoimage that you have?? I’m pretty sure that people would appreciate it. It’s about your music, not your lineage! We go see YOU live, not a reminder of you dad. Don’t let that image thing haunt you until the end…
