… and I wanna hear “YOU KEEP ON MOVING the SMOKE ON THE WATER” as a duet…
Yeah – it will be nice to see both together …
Long Live Rock ´N´ Roll

January 9th, 2009 at 20:53Always good to hear from Ian,but who cares about GH ?
January 9th, 2009 at 21:20If Glenn sings rock then i care 101%. And so should Jack11 – but only if he sings rock.
January 9th, 2009 at 21:40Lots of people care about GH
Which does not mean they are without criticism of the man
The man is a GOD but Gods tends to have flaws as well
Does God do whoopee?
January 9th, 2009 at 21:50Your all forgetting how GH has bashed Purple in the past. Without Purple he be nothing.
January 9th, 2009 at 21:56I forget nothing.
January 10th, 2009 at 00:27Glenn Hughes without Purple he be nothing?ahahah..lol.Trapeze for you!
January 10th, 2009 at 03:16You people should ask if they were play together or not. I predict they will perform separately for different Iommi or Sabbath songs.
All I can remember from Glenn Hughes step on Deep Purple are : white shirt and trouser, horrible screaming, Tommy Bolin, and Gettin’ Tighter.
If Gillan and Hughes sing together, I prefer they sang “Highway Star”, as Gillan could not sang the ‘love it, need it’ properly again. “Smoke..” will be destroyed by Glenn’s frenetic screaming, surely will lost its majesty. And remember Gillan never want to sing Mk3 or 4 catalogue.
Cheers
January 10th, 2009 at 07:42It’s fine to have both together in the show, whether they perform together or not.
But some of you might have heard Glenn Hughes 1975 for the last time.
Sure, he was not the best interpreter of Mark II songs, but Mark II + IV are living from both David and Glenn.
No one of the Purple family has done so many good albums in the last ten years. The Voice of Coverdale and Gillan is far from brilliant the last years. But Glenn’s voice grows better and better each year.
Yes, he made “funky” but brillant rock music and “Fused” (Iommi/Hughes) is one of the best rock albums of the last years.
If they play together – maybe with Iommi – the should bring a long amazing version of “Heart Like A Wheel” From “Seventh Star”. A songs which will fit perfectly to the voices of Glenn and Ian.
I don’t think Ian can sing songs from “Born Again” in a good shape.
But if I’m remember right, Ian and Glenn met together about ten years ago. And they respect and like each other.
January 10th, 2009 at 08:22Ian (not Glenn) said that they probably will do an album together. Why not? A pity, that this never happend.
you´re dreaming too much buddies!
January 10th, 2009 at 09:43Gillan & Hughes will never sing together
I agree with John. I believe I read there is only an interview section with each about their favorite songs. There is no guarantee that they will even be in the same studio together or on the phone from somewhere separately. They will probably reminisce about the Born Again era with Big Ian and the several projects G.H. has done with Tony. I don’t believe Ian has the highest regard for the MKIII era of D.P. so the interaction of the the two guests may be interesting.
January 10th, 2009 at 13:33I like a lot 1996 dep session with Tony Iommi, but “fused” is horrible…
January 10th, 2009 at 13:58Yes Glenn still have his voice, Gillan not but both have been gods with deep purple and alone…
Trapeze? Most people couldnt name three of their songs.
January 10th, 2009 at 16:47Then these people should do their homework, Jack11…
they’re missing out on some great music!
Cheers
January 10th, 2009 at 18:06And that was only just a beginning for Glenn
January 10th, 2009 at 20:27I’ve said this many times before… time to say it again – GLENN HUGHES SHOULD RE-JOIN PURPLE. He will be an excellent 2nd singer for the band helping IG on songs he can’t do alone (i.e. Highway Star). Then have a part of the show where Gillan goes off for a while and we get to hear some Mk 3/4 material. Could not anyone objecting to that…
January 10th, 2009 at 20:29Tracy
January 11th, 2009 at 00:26I hope you are joking…
Try to tell it to Gillan…

January 11th, 2009 at 19:57TruthHurts,
What a great Idea!!!!!!!
Maybe Jon Lord could rejoin and give Don Airey a break. No here is another one, maybe Nick Simper could rejoin and give Roger a break. Hey maybe Coverdale and Rod Evans could rejoin and give Hughes and Gillan a break and maybe we could do a séance and bring Tommy Bolin’s Spirit back to help out Steve Morse, and of course how can I forget….Bring Ritchie back and F..k it all up again…..
It’s ideas like this that give JLT fuel for his Cover Band Syndrome..
ARE YOU MADDDDDDD???????
Cheers

Cool!
January 12th, 2009 at 15:06Nice to know you play the drums Tracy, I support the instrument and run my drummers column proudly, so far.

January 12th, 2009 at 17:25Roberto….(You say Roberto, I say Roberta….LOL)
Thanks….I had posted that clip before. I haven’t had time to put anymore performances on YouTube. Our Bass player was the video madman and now he is gone to bigger and better things. Eventually I will add the dreaded ‘Smoke on the Water’. Sorry, but it’s the only Purple tune I could get these guys to do…..I have tons of footage from our gigs, so I hope to figure out how to convert it so I can post more on YOUTUBE. Only some of highlights….such as ‘Summersong by Satriani, Black Magic Woman, Little Wing (the SRV version), Rooster by Alice in Chains, etc…..
Nice MySpace site. Which one, if any is you? So what are you guys a KISS Tribute Band or a Purple Cover band?
The Lights in question are actually Emergency Beacon lights off of an Old Fire Truck. Our band was made up from Firefighters. We all worked together and found that we also had the desire to form a band, and that was the formation of LOzT CAUz. I acquired the lights from the ‘Firetruck Graveyard’. I have since retired from the Fire Service in Florida and moved to Tennessee where the ‘Animals Roam’ on my land and I hunt and fish for entertainment….among other things. I kept all the sound equipment and Band Banner. So very soon hopefully there will be reforming of LOzT CAUz here. I look forward to getting back out and playing some music here in ‘Music City’……We were working on a couple of ‘Originals’ that never came to pass. One is pretty much finished. Just needs the proper recording and mixing….
CG..I didn’t know of the ‘Drummers Column’. Where?
PP..I don’t get your reference to @25…
Cheers
January 12th, 2009 at 18:34The Name of my band was Living Wreck untila summer 2008 and we played 70 Hard rock including some Deep purple stuff.
January 12th, 2009 at 20:39We just played a tribute Kiss once on a festival of my little town.(I don’t like Kiss so much, they are too superficial for my taste)
Now we change direction because in my country it’s difficult to find the possibility to play live shows with that kind of music which is becoming always less popular every year. Now we named ourselves ‘Delorean’ as the ‘Back to the future’ auto and we play 80 huge hits revisited in a rock style.
I am the one (and the only in my band) with long hairs.
Hope you listened our songs in the link.We did them for a amatorial comic movie (where we appear too). The recording is bad but what is importatn to me is quality of the songs.
If I would have lived in Usa I would have build a Grand Funk Railroad tribute band…(just a dream, here is impossible)
@20
Well quite a few years ago almost all past and present members of YES grouped together for the ‘Union’ album and tour. Live they were fantastic, it created more of a ‘buzz’ about Yes, and it was clearly a landmark in the group’s history.
Gillan with Hughes…Gillan with JLT..Glover and Hughes…Airey and Lord (we already had some of that), even Blackmore and Morse…why the hell not?!? More collaborations please – this band is over 40 years old
and needs to take their art to the next level by making it wider, more ‘cinematic’/’symphonic’
(in my opinion).
January 12th, 2009 at 23:37TH aka TH.
Sorry TH, but that just takes it a step BACK. Yeah, I remember the YES ‘UNION’ thing…….Gone. Maybe it was big regarding YES people, but over all it didn’t make a difference. Just like with Purple, even though I am a huge fan, I am not stupid enough to think that would make a difference. I’d much rather the band move forward with new material, and tour on that than go back to what Was…….
That’s what records and recordings are for…..Just Push Play…
Cheers

It’s found as the bottom section in the Exclusives area that makes up a large portion in the middle of the boards.

Next I will be interviewing Mickey Dee of Motorhead, if someone doesn’t beat him to to it.
January 13th, 2009 at 21:04Btw, my latest feature is with Leonard Haze, what a comical guy!
Took hours of conversation to fit into an article. Much got scrapped, and some was confidential, including Gillan and JLT conspiracy factors that he was amused to hear I had nailed from the get go, and I will look no further on that issue now, he helped put my suspicions to rest.
Big names on the schedule coming up are Chad Smith, Alan White and Mick Underwood.
January 13th, 2009 at 21:18Crimson Ghost,
January 14th, 2009 at 18:57are you the president/owner of the Deep purple Hub?
No, I am CO-Administrator and a staff writer, but I run the videos as I see fit, so you can say I do have quite a lot to do with managing it.
January 14th, 2009 at 23:02The owner isn’t around as much as he used to be, but he still participates behind the scenes and heads up and CO-writes our newsletters.
So could you make me your list of best deep purple bootleg cd and dvd?
January 16th, 2009 at 13:28thanks
Best of Black Sabbath–on the vocals—Ian Gillain.
January 16th, 2009 at 20:04Its Ian Gillian, Mister USA
January 17th, 2009 at 17:49@ 38
Robert, that would not be impossible for me, there are thousands of audio and hundreds of videos, so it’s a redundant task.
There is always something to enjoy at whatever stage of the game you get involved, and everyone has their favorites, so if I told you the HOB 98 shows are untouchable(not saying the really are)then you might have heard them and disagree.
I seem to remember you as ‘nazarre’ or something like that, asking me before. You’re onto some of the best already, ie, Gillan Bucharest 92, and some others you’ve mentioned. But to each their own as to what the best is.
It takes years to get anywhere with the numbers of shows going around, and my participation in it all is nothing compared to many people on the net who don’t even mutter a word about it.(I’m nobody, lol! there are people that smoke my status, but they don’t get involved in discussing it very much)
My real area of interest lies in official merchandise possession and knowledge concerning imports and the amount of territories involved in releasing records over the years… bootlegs are a void filler, although it’s become a huge filler in the last five years. So long story short, I collect one hell of a lot more than bootleg recordings. I specialize in collecting official merchandise, not restricted to records though, memorabilia keeps me busy as well.
January 17th, 2009 at 19:23Audience recordings have always been something I just collect to stimulate my ongoing DP hobby.
Ok thanks I understand…
January 17th, 2009 at 22:59but would be very cool if someone will make a list of all soundboard bootlegs,so anyone could choice from that list having bootlegs with a very good sound quality without lost himself in the sea of the unofficial and unprofessional albums…
CG:
On the subject of Drummers….I remember reading somewhere that you are an avid Cozy Powell fan…I myself found him to be a drummer of his own style. As with Paice, you can very quickly identify Cozy’s playing. Though is was nowhere near as technical as Paice, he was very versatile..
Do you have any of the ‘Forcefield’ albums? He played drums on all of them. Ray Fenwick was also a part. I believe there were 3 and also a 4th which was instrumentals only. They did a lot of Covers along with Purple and Cream and such. Don’t have them in front of me, but I do recall them to be very good. Very hard to find also….
Cheers
January 17th, 2009 at 23:31@ Roberto
Good idea, but it would have to be amended on almost a daily basis because of the constant flood of incoming recordings.
I think it might be better to get a copy of the bootleg index 68 – 2002.
The rest is still being worked on.
At least this way you could make your own list from it, to include just the soundboard and FM broadcast recordings in existence… they’re all specified in the index. I know it’s a big index, but such a task is not going to be done for you, so this is a great alternative. I could send you a copy to download, along with two more indexes full of “Pirates” and BBC/session recordings in circulation.(I’m warning you though, the main index alone contains a massive amount of shows to sift through, but all details are included, even pics of the artwork for the boots)
January 18th, 2009 at 02:04@ Tracy
Yes, big Powell fan here with a lot of stories from spending time with him, he was truly a gentleman, loved being around fans.
Forcefield, do not buy that album that’s selling for millions on ebay, it’s a rip off! Out of print, yes, but not worth so much at all.
Stay away from any high price offers of this album, just because it’s out of print does not mean it’s worth all that, it’s only one small aspect of detirmined value.
It’s ‘Forcefield II’ and it’s great stuff, including Black Night/SKOW with Tony Martin on vocals.

I’ll shoot you an email about it.
Cheerz!
January 18th, 2009 at 02:23Btw, I believe that one featured Jan Akkerman on guitar instead of Fenwick, but it still featured Fenwick on bass and keyboards, oddly enough, which is a one time opportunity to hear Ray on something besides guitar, that I know of anyway. He is multi talented and did a ton of great session work before joining IGB, in fact Ian could hardly afford him, lol!
January 18th, 2009 at 02:31CG:
I was lucky enough to start my collection years ago and purchase these upon issue…..thanks for sending that, but as I stated above in #43, I actually have all of them including some vinyl…..(1 and 2). They are just packed away and not at my disposal…
As with the Glory Road thing, now I am inspired to dig out the Forcefield stuff…..I’ve been putting together all of the Deep Purple covers I can find as a separate file and there are a couple on these. Forcefield #1 I seem to remember having Smoke on the Water.
Cheers

@ Tracy, now you can load that one for your immediate enjoyment.
The rest of the albums are about the same weight, most of the material is good, and fine covers.

January 19th, 2009 at 10:54CG:
Amazing!!!!! As I stated at #47, this has inspired me to do a little search…..LOST and FOUND!!
I started digging and found my Cozy Powell section…or at least part of it. The BBC thing you listed above I have on a CD titled “Cozy Powell KILLER”. It also contains some studio warm-up to the “Octopus” album which featured Jon Lord, Don Airey, Gary Moore, Mel Galley and Colin Hodgkinson..plus the London Philharmonic Orchestra. they rehearsed this at ‘Britannia Row Studio, London’ Sept. & Oct. 1982.
The song “The Loner” is my ALL TIME FAVORITE instrumental!!! I remember hearing it on Cozy’s ‘Over the Top’ album and I was totally taken by it. Then, GARY MOORE covered it on his ‘Wild Frontier’ album and there is an extended version on the 12″ Maxi which blows the Cozy version away. If you want to be totally moved, sit and listen to these. All 3 back to back. There is so much feeling in the playing on ‘The Loner’ that you are pissed when it ends..
As far as the ‘Forcefield’ stuff, there were 5 Releases.;
1. Forcefield
2. Forcefield II..The Talisman
3. Forcefield III..To OZ and Back
4. Forcefield IV..Let the Wild Run Free
5. Forcefield ..Instrumentals
The Line-up changes somewhat throughout. Graham Bonnet sings on 3 and 4. Don Airey and Bernie Marsden and Mick Moody guest on 4 and 5.
I personally enjoy 4 the best. it is the heaviest of them and actually takes on a ‘Rainbow’ feel. With Bonnet, Cozy, Airey, it has shades of ‘Down to Earth’.
Cheers
January 19th, 2009 at 18:49I have all five of them, one and two are autographed.
January 20th, 2009 at 05:30The studio warm up thing is simply the “Octopus Demos” collection, and it’s a classy piece of work, one of my absolute faves.
#40 smarty pants.
