Summer tour shaping up
Although there has been no word yet from Thames Talent, it looks like the summer Deep Purple tour is shaping up. New tour dates are being announced by the local media and are trickling in almost on a daily basis. For some of these, tickets are already on sale or going on sale shortly.
So far we have a string of Scandinavian dates in July and one show in June, an open air in Bavaria, Germany. As the past experience suggests, time between them will hardly go to waste. Details will be posted as soon as we receive them.
If you have any further information — additions, correction, new dates, venues, ticket info — do not hesitate to let us know. And we will make sure the rest of the world knows too. 😉
Remember the seventies? One of the reasons they´d split up then was “touring fatigue”! I hope they don´t make the same mistake now. No matter how much fun they have these days, sooner or later they´ll come to a point were enough is enough!
So please….Take some time off, recharge the batteries,go into the studio and make a great album and then we´ll see you on the road again! O.K.?? ROCK ON!!
December 10th, 2008 at 08:50That’s the main reason Jon Lord left , he got sick of all the touring, he had asked for the non stop touring to subside but he idea was rejected. Can’t remember which interview i saw this on. That’s probabley one of the main reason’s they won’t make another great album like Perfect Strangers again. Because they tour far to much and they can’t concentrate properley on a studio album. It’s not like they are poor & need the money to tour they all have plenty of money. What is going to go is Ian’s voice with all the live shows .
December 10th, 2008 at 11:01Absolutely ridiculous. So, I take it there won’t be a new album before this next tour? Next year will be 4 years since the last studio album… 4 years to keep on touring the same album? Totally insane.
OK… so they got burnt out during the 70’s BUT at least there was a regular output of albums and how the hell did they manage to make so many great albums too in between all that touring? Admittedly, they were all a lot younger back then… and that’s what bothers me a bit whenever I think of Purple today… they’re all getting on a bit and yet they still rely over-heavily on glories from over 35 years ago. If I had to keep playing SOTW, Space Truckin’ and Highway Star forevermore, I’d go completely insane. That’s not what I call living… more like a live karaoke nostalgia machine.
And look at Jon Lord since he left… doesn’t one get the feeling he’s feeling much happier being able to compose and perform new works instead of playing the same old stuff tour after tour after tour after tour? Lord keeps moving on whereas Purple seem to have grinded to a halt artistically and creatively.
I too wouldn’t think the guys in Purple are that desperate for the money and surely logic and sense dictates that they take a year or so off away from the road to recharge the batteries, get new material together, record a new album and THEN go back out on the road.
None of us are hardly likely to “forget” they even exist… Purple fans will always be there when they return, but this is just too soon.
December 10th, 2008 at 11:28Maybe I am to quick to judge because it’s not like they announced a tour schedule for the entire year but once again no mention of touring in the USA. It’s amazing how the country that made Deep Purple what they are is always forgotten. You’d think with both Roger and Steve living here and the management based here there would be more concerts but it seams like it never happens anymore. I would gladly sacrifice a new album for a US tour. It’s been way to long!
December 10th, 2008 at 11:54I hope they’ll tour the USA also, but lets face it, they draw larger crowds overseas…Can’t blame em’….. Connecticut awaits d.p.!!!!
December 10th, 2008 at 12:57STOP WITH THIS DATES!!!GILLAN VOICE IS GOING TO BE DESTROYED!!!
December 10th, 2008 at 13:50WHY ALL THESE DATES?THERE’S NO A NEW ALBUM,ALWAYS THE SAME SONGS PLAYED LIVE…YOU ARE TOO BORING…AND I PREFER TO WATCH DEEP PURPLE IN STADIUM AN NOT IN LITTLE PALCES…
AT THE MOMENT THERE IS NOT A SINGLE REASON TO GO TO DEEP PURPLE
Then dont go…………….thats the solution…….problem solved.
December 10th, 2008 at 16:06I have absolutely no wish to view ANY of Deep Purple’s web-sites. WHY? because I can not read even 1 news besides the tour dates, tour reviews, tour setlist, tour photos and so on…
So, guys, go on touring while you die on the stage… you’re NOT musicians anymore, you became just the cover band who earns several thousands more pounds…
fuck you off, old shits.
DP members already see that nobody needs their lives anymore… Deep Purple didn’t sold out Stuttgart??? It was one of the greatest surprise in Stuttgart in their 2008 november German tour…
Stuttgart WAS a Deep Purple city, but the band became so boring that they didn’t manage to sell-out Stuttgart… (pay attention, the tickets were on sale for over 9 months before the show)
December 10th, 2008 at 16:44im sure steve morse will be getting fed up playing the same stuff as did ritchie…steve should go back to his won bands now and play some decent music again now hes made a bit of money to finance his own stuff…dp should now call it a day lets be honest….
December 10th, 2008 at 17:08This is the funniest fansite I have ever seen! They complain that their so called favourite Band goes on tour. Absoluteley stupid!
December 10th, 2008 at 19:57Must go now and delete my bookmark.
As long as the vast majority of the repertoir is from the 70s, I can’t see any greater problem with going on tour without a new album.
December 10th, 2008 at 21:37And there probably won t be that many big chances
Maybe 1 or 2
SETLIST TIME AGAIN anybody?
Personally I dont give a damn, I ve retired from seeing them, too much annoyance
Only a very good mood or a big change in songs being played will make me endure the fiddler
But you guys and girls should go as much as possible
After all, it appears they need it.
December 10th, 2008 at 21:52I meant CHANGES
December 10th, 2008 at 21:52What a bunch of whingers. 1 show each in Febuary & June and 5 in July and you lot think the worlds going to end. They take 3 weeks to record a new album so where’s the problem. You lot would probably “bag it” anyway. The truth is you are all pissed off because its another European tour. Some of you need to Harden Up & get a life.
December 10th, 2008 at 22:15Cheers
Phil
Totally agree with Phil on this matter. If they want to record an album it won’t be a big problem. They all think will burst off with ideas.
December 10th, 2008 at 22:35Sometimes I can hardly believe this is a DP “FAN” website, quit complaining, they get plenty of time off and a new album will come eventually.
December 11th, 2008 at 03:36Roberto, if there is no reason to see Deep Purple then DO NOT GO, I am pretty sure they will survive.
Much good perspectives on this subject. I am at least a bit concerned with the amount of road work these guys put in regardless of lack of time in the studio where they have made nothing short of magic each and every time spent creating albums. My main man Steve has gone on record when asked how long he thinks the band can keep on going. And I paraphrase not having the AV in front of me, “that’s a matter of good management. If they put us on long trips where we burn out and get sick of it, then not long. If they manage things wisely and maybe not have 20 gigs in 20 days, and not have a 36 hour travel day. Everybody in this band wants to play until their dying breath. Whether or not if it stays as a band, who knows?”
They are still not, and had better not, become a nostalgia band like many of their contemporaries. But fresh new music is lifeblood with respect to the issue of burn out. I would love to not see these guys live for a spell (I do reside in the USA), and know that they are back between closed doors recording new music. But dare I digress…
I’m once again off to that joint to shoot some pool and enjoy a few pints…
Peace,
Ted
December 11th, 2008 at 04:47I want Blackmore and Lord back.
New album and short faraweel tour.
Don Airey and Steve Morse are not Deep Purple.

December 11th, 2008 at 07:09
And you are part of the 1% of audience who come to the shows nobody (specially the band)gives a F**** about.
December 11th, 2008 at 07:35By the way I want Elvis back
Steve Morse is machine.
Don Airey is “for rent” player. Nothing special, but technique like many, many players. He just had luck.
MARK II
December 11th, 2008 at 08:17Steve and Airey MUST argue with their bandmates about the set list. Nobody plays Blackmore like Blackmore. Nobody plays Lord like Lord.
Both S & A have done these set lists after many years. It’s now time to establish the real Deep Purple Mk 8. It will be great. As long as many songs they played concerned to Blackmore/Lord era stuffs, I still considering their alternative name as Mk2 cover band.
December 11th, 2008 at 10:03I hate winter
December 11th, 2008 at 10:04If they don’t play Mark 2 songs, the concert/s/ would be visited only by most of forums members. It is not enought.
MK 8 can’t be live without MK 2.
MK 2 reunion and that is all.
December 11th, 2008 at 10:50I really hate winter!!
December 11th, 2008 at 11:51Well for those who cant ‘endure’ the touring, infrequent albums, and the current guitarist…………I have a question
Why are you here?
Find a current band that you actually enjoy.
Or catch up with your favourite has-been ‘fiddler’ over at Blackmores Night……..after all he aint dead, although ‘Priests’ teary eyed nostalgic ‘ramblings’ could lead you to think so.
December 11th, 2008 at 14:21Why?
Becouse I like current band.
I have all their records. All. I saw them live many times.
And becouse I love Deep Purple I say what I feel – the truth.
Without legacy of MK 2 there are nothig today.
December 11th, 2008 at 14:42No MK 8, no Blackmore’s Night, no MK3, no MK 4, Mk Turner, Satriani, 7, no Whitesnake, no IGB, no HTP, no PAL, no this site, neither upcoming tour…
Olli,
Elvis has already left the building…. And when are you planning on deleting your bookmark?
R,
D.A. and S.M. are Deep Purple. Work on your tunnel vision….
Phil, marcinn, stoffer, and Rascal,
Broad minded sentiments appreciated unlike many of the others in our motley crue…
Off to the joint. Some of our motley crue could potentially drive me to drink way too much. But I shan’t. I have to keep me straight shootin’ at the snooker table…
Peace,
Ted :>
December 11th, 2008 at 14:47Deep purple nowdays = Boring…
December 11th, 2008 at 16:00Robertos vocabulary nowadays…….Limited!!!
December 11th, 2008 at 16:03hey boys how about a mach 4 reunion with steve playing tommy bolin stuff……bring jon back do some stuff off of burn……few older clasics/ after they done get back on with ian and roger….keep the cycle going boys any combo suits for me! rock on…….i’d love to see steve morse playing some of the come taste the band stuff…….
December 11th, 2008 at 18:15Many of you are Fu…. crazy! Complain that Purple goes on tour ? Are You nuts ??? Shame on you. Its a pleasure to see them everytime. I hope they will come to the best rock festival in Europe this year – Sweden Rock Festival.
December 11th, 2008 at 19:27Cheeeeres !
as I stated on this site recently purple should do a quo and theme the tour with a best of collection.. let me explain…a three disc best of called morse code featuring the best new stuff with live classics and three new numbers..also have a collectors box with a dvd. This would give the tour a reason rather than just drag out the 70s set… if it was advertised on tv etc it would up the bands profile and stir up debate and intrest… if the band need a manager I am available!
December 11th, 2008 at 20:44USA waiting…and waiting …and waiting
December 11th, 2008 at 21:03Would love to see “Deep Purple Family Reunion Tour”
December 11th, 2008 at 21:39one scenario:
Whitesnake opens, followed by Rainbow with RB, current Deep Purple, the various combinations of all of the above. No doubt impossible to pull off but one can umagine the possibilites
imagine…sorry
December 11th, 2008 at 21:39I agree with stefan, recharge the batteries, then go into the studio and make an album.
LONG LIVE DEEP PURPLE
December 12th, 2008 at 02:26WE CRITICIZE BECAUSE WE LOVE DEEP PURPLE AND WE WANT THE BEST FOR THEM…
December 12th, 2008 at 13:09DON’T YOU DO THIS WITH YOUR SONS?
I think, the guys in purple know by themselfe, what is the best for the band. If anybody won’t see and feel DP live, he don’t have to go ! Cant understand some people around here… I listen to every single note, they are playing live ! 🙂
December 12th, 2008 at 18:49I agree and very well said R and Roberto !
I wonder also, if they really can’t manage performances with the earlier bandmembers in special shows this coming year! It could be done in harmony with their personnal issues, and it would be spectacular and exiting for many fans!
Cheers to you all, great weekend 8)
December 12th, 2008 at 21:29They should have done something to celebrate their 40 years…a reunion of mk II or III or a big show with all members past and present(as Lord said).
December 13th, 2008 at 12:57Nothing has done and Purple now are boring….
Roberto!
So what the F**K are you doing here???
My only concern is that they don´t burn themselves out, with the relentless touring schedule! I´m going to every gig I can and they have yet to dissapoint me,even though I hope never to see that happen!
One can´t escape age and I rather see quality than quantity….that´s my major concern!ROCK ON!
December 13th, 2008 at 17:55Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, does your shrink wife never tell you quality is better served by cutting down on the quantities?
December 13th, 2008 at 23:49They should open with Burn. And do mistreated and You keep on Moving. It will never happen because this is Gillan with some session guys doing DP kareoke.
December 14th, 2008 at 11:37stefan
December 14th, 2008 at 17:14I am here to know Deep purple news and related family news because they could do solo projects or different Deep purple shows that I would love…
this is what I am doing here…ah I am here evn to say my opinion as you do…
it’s enough for you?
Deep Purple will release new double DVD in April by Eagle records.
December 15th, 2008 at 07:42It will be concert from last German “40th Anniversary Tour”.
pratically the same dvd of montreux 2006….so sad…so boring…
December 15th, 2008 at 12:00I will buy it again.
December 15th, 2008 at 12:39But prefer MK II reunion DVD.
Ted The Mechanic says:
“Work on your tunnel vision…”
Comment of the year on this blog.
December 16th, 2008 at 06:48Ho hum another dvd,and doubtless another live album. I won’t bother. I’m listening to Final Concerts at the moment. Mk111 should reform, that would be killer.
December 16th, 2008 at 06:48MkIII was awesome, final concerts is awesome
December 16th, 2008 at 12:16but now Coverdale have lost his voice…
Heavens Bob… Cannot believe this!! MK III ?
December 16th, 2008 at 19:58In 2009 everything should be possible
Unfortunately Rod seems lost and Tommy is gone forever
Besides that, NOTHING is out of the question
The 50th Anniversary , thats unreal
Or not?
December 16th, 2008 at 21:19Rod isn’t lost at all.
December 16th, 2008 at 21:56The only thing lost here is your marbles Priest!!!!!
December 17th, 2008 at 00:30The next studio album is definitely overdue, but Deep Purple can do whatever they want. Frankly, I’m ecstatic we still *have* a Deep Purple.
December 18th, 2008 at 03:57Hello
December 18th, 2008 at 12:32Don’t Matter what peoples says or think… seep Purple have the command of their own destiny.
If it’s a mistake, it’s pleasure for people who haven’t have now the chance to see them yet.
If it’s no mistake, it’s a chance to know their want to do this for US , the fans.
Line up changes do nothing to the magical faith of Deep Purple… See the work their ‘ve done to became again one of the biggest band in the world: now they’ve got it.
Oh yeah Gillan, Coverdale, Dio,and all the singers in ^purple familly… are older now and they don’t have the same facilities than 20 years ago vith voice but thee legend still is alive: so take the pleasure now, at this moment… Live is short, each moment is gold.
Glenn hughes is an exception to the rule, he still keep the same voice and facilities. But he’s an exception.
Deep Puple: Do what you want, keep the same standard of quality, I love you so much…
One think is real in what I read here: We all still waiting a new “Great Deep Purple Album”
