One Eye To Morocco
Ian Gillan’s new solo album called One Eye To Morocco is mostly ready, apart from the track listing which is being finalized. DPAS reports a January release date, but we’re being told by the man himself that it will be out in March. The album is produced by Nick Blagona.
Joanna overheard a demo tape being played at a hotel bar in Germany and opined that “if you liked Accidentally On Purpose, you will absolutely love this one.”
I super-love ‘accidentally on purpose’ and I love when Gillan take a journey into others music geners than hard rock.I am waiting an album like this from years! and I need this one much more than a Deep purple album…It will be great if Gillan will do another album together with Glover!
November 16th, 2008 at 16:09I´m still confused about the title is it now: “One Eye ON Morocco” or “One Eye TO Morocco”? I´ve seen both.
November 16th, 2008 at 16:43Great news. Accidentally on Purpose was a wonderful album. There might be some paralles with Dreamcatcher was reported otherwise. Also good news! I hope he will do a solo tour in Germany!
November 16th, 2008 at 17:04Both Dreamcatcher and Accidentally On Purpose were great albums. A new DP album is due, but certainly a Gillan album is always welcome. His solo efforts are always strong recordings.
November 17th, 2008 at 03:28The rock ‘n’ roll flavor on ‘Accidentally On Purpose’ was enjoyable…………….hope this new effort has a different taste tho……..
Dont flog a dead horse………….thats JLT’s job after all.
November 17th, 2008 at 09:37I love ‘accidentally on purpose’ but I hate ‘dreamcatcher’….In that album the songrwriting is not so good and the only musician is steve morris….recorded with an horrible drum machine!!!!!
November 17th, 2008 at 13:19I really hope ‘one eye on marocco’ will be similar to ‘accidentally…’ or totally different from anything he has done before but for sure not similar to ‘dreamcatcher’…
Accidentally was a cool album when it came ut, me thinks. Mow it sounds a bit “dated”, but some of the songs are reallt good songs.
Dreamcatcher is just a cheap demo collection, sounds very amateurish. Not a good album. I really hope some more work has been put into One Eye…
November 17th, 2008 at 13:57Accidentally is pure genius(songs like ‘telephone box’ or ‘dislocated’ prove it…)
‘dreamcatcher’ is really amateurish…too sad….
Eirik,what is Mow?
November 17th, 2008 at 14:30Some of the A on P songs I enjoyed , although there was also the frustration of songs not being developed again, for instance Clouds and Rain, something nice but….
Dreamcatcher has some good songs but the production is terrible
I d like it to hear the way he did Gillans Inn, very agressive, very good snging compared to ROTD
ROTD , it seems to me, has more to do with A on P than Deep Purple
Solution
The DOWN TO EARTH line up Ritchie went for in the first place
Airey
Glover
Gillan
Blackmore
Powell
Oops…….
Ok, Paicey …….
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmhhhhhhhhhhhh
Well, come on guys Jon is very ready after that long deserved break, he has earned that 40 th ANNIVERSARY
And WE have dereved HIS DREAM
Where the f..k is Rod Evans!
November 17th, 2008 at 16:10Is Nick recovered yet or…
DPAS reports all their sources know, there will only be a press release in January and official release in March with a free online debut at a web location to be announced.(Steve Morris’ involvement is not primary, MLJ, Rodney Appleby and Howard Wilson on drums are the band, with some others including Joe Mennonna but sadly not Dean Howard or Randy Cooke)
Recorded in Buffalo and produced in Toronto by the amazing Nick Blagona
One Eye To Morocco is the tile reported at Carramba, but I’ll ask MLJ and clear that up.
Calm down priest, Rod Evans is in exile and doing okay, but doubts he will ever perform again.
November 17th, 2008 at 17:03So easily excited…………….
November 17th, 2008 at 17:21poor Joanna had a terrible headache the next day I believe 🙂
Some hotshot kid was driving up and down the street in his flashy Mercedes Benz like he was king of the world or something!

Seriously though, One Eye to Morocco is a cracking album.
November 17th, 2008 at 19:11@ 12
Stephen
Did you get to hear the music already
I had the impression no one had heard it yet
What s the point with Joanna, who s that, and the rest of your post
November 17th, 2008 at 23:08Dont understand, sorryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Nice title. I can’t wait to hear some new stuff from this album. Sure Ian will take a journey into wide area of music, not only hard rock music.
Btw, why ‘Gillan’ appear as this is an Ian Gillan solo record. I think Gillan was a band named from his band at the end of 70’s which formerly named Ian Gillan band. Or I’m wrong?
November 18th, 2008 at 02:21recorded with a true drummer….this is something…..
November 18th, 2008 at 12:59I dont recall having read that it will be a GILLAN album, Andresi.
Indeed, as long as he uses real musicians instead of the terrible stuff which ruins a lot of in potential great albums.
November 18th, 2008 at 14:13I can’t understand why He won’t do ‘great thins’:Gillan should do much more prmotion and invest much more on its almbums!!!he should even do a video…
November 18th, 2008 at 15:46He should do things in the opposite ways he did for’Dreamcathcer’…
Great thins
Whats that
November 18th, 2008 at 22:12Priest, I read Gillan in Deep-Purple.net. Then I got the answer. I’m longing for his new music now.
November 19th, 2008 at 03:34‘Greatest things’ sorry…
November 19th, 2008 at 13:00I already lost sleep on it
Could it be great thighs
or
a reference to a great film called THINNER
I know who now feels goosebumps, hehehe
November 19th, 2008 at 16:00Stephen Kings ‘Thinner’????
November 19th, 2008 at 16:20Yep, thats the one
November 19th, 2008 at 22:03I told you who the musicians were priest…. and yes, recorded with a ‘true’ drummer, the same guy who played a lot on Gillan’s Inn.
November 20th, 2008 at 06:40Never seen the film…………but good book
November 20th, 2008 at 09:14Great Gillan,a real gypsy rocker that always loves playng music with his high soul.
I am looking foward to this new work…
today when I was travelling by car for my job I played the Bob Dasley’s work called THE HOOCHIE COOCHIE MEN featuring Jon Lord, song #7 with Mr.Univers on vocal titled
IF THIS AIN’T THE BLUES;

November 22nd, 2008 at 12:27Stay Well Priest!
“Ian Gillan Band”, “Gillan”, “Big Ian”, he can use whatever name he desires. Those were ‘His Bands’. Like “Rainbow”, “Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow”, “Blackmore”, or whatever….When it’s YOUR BAND, you can call it what you want. Only the musician’s names are changed within…to protect the innocent.
Which brings me back to something I posted in the next ‘Blog’, “Blackmore tours Over the Rainbow”. I made reference to the complaints regarding “Deep Purple recording New Album” being so few. Here is yet another example of how busy they are and how much New Music Purple have offered since the “Blackmore Exodus”.
Aside from the 5 Purple records…
Steve Morse has done a couple of Solo albums, did another Dregs album and guested on various other artists albums and Tribute albums. He also did the “Living Loud” CD and show, and tons of Guitar Clinics Worldwide.
Don Airey released a solo record “Light in the Sky”, and headed many other projects….”Empire, Silver, Living Loud, Metallium, and guested on many other Tributes and ‘One Offs”.
Ian Gillan released “Dreamcatcher” and his brilliant “Gillan’s Inn”. Also, 2 DVDs. “Highway Star- a Journey in Rock”, and “The Glory Years”. Plus he did the Jeff Healy Tribute and toured on his “Gillan’s Inn” release also putting out a double Live CD.
Roger Glover released “Snapshot” and is working on another solo project. He also guested on the Govt. Mule Tribute to Alan Woody…RIP. DVD and CD.
Ian Paice did his Drum DVD “for the pros”, “E-Think”, “Moonstone Project”, guested on many an artist CD. Did tons of Drum Clinics worldwide.
These are just of the top of my head……there are tons more.
Yes, since Blackmore unleashed the Deep Purple Beast, and fled to his little forest where Men Wear Tights, we have be bombarded with Non Stop Music from these ‘Behemoths of energy and creativity.
Ritchie wouldn’t have stood for it and all we would have are a couple less Purple Albums and No Solo Projects…..
I Think Life has been Pretty Good for us in the land of Purple since he’s been gone….
Oh yeah, don’t forget to crank ‘Blackmore’s Night’ Real Loud also. That’ll do it.
Cheers

November 27th, 2008 at 10:00could you suggest what are the best solo and collaborations albums by steve morse, don airey and joe lynn turner?
thanks a lot
Roberto:
I would have to say that I hold a fondness towards Steve work with ‘the Dreggs’. Mainly due to already being a huge fan of his back then, way before he was inducted into the greatest band ever Deep Purple.
Don Ariey has been a part of som many colaberations, to pick one would be impossible. “Ozzy, Rainbow, MSG, Colleseum 2, Forcefield, plus those I mentioned above and there are many more. I think I might have to lean towards the ‘Empire’ material.
JLT has also been a part of so many. I actually enjoyed his one off with Malmsteem’s Rising Force I think. I like ‘Sunstorm’ quite a lot….he seems to really put in the effort voicewise here. It’s a little mellower than I would like but has a great sound.
Cheers

November 28th, 2008 at 17:34could you please suggest only me three albums for each artist?
November 29th, 2008 at 19:00thanks

December 1st, 2008 at 02:28BTW, back to the actual subject here. If the new Gillan record has even close to the same energy as ‘Gillan’s Inn’ along with the tour, he may just be a better ticket than Purple.
If any of you haven’t had the opportunity to pick up a copy of the “Ian Gillan- Live in Anaheim”, you are truly missing out. I have to tell you that this concert is one of the most enjoyable show I’ve listened to in quite a while. He pulls out all the stops here and shows that he is and still is what he was……..The Greatest Rock Vocalist of All Time.
Cheers
December 2nd, 2008 at 01:13Unfortunately I have very bad memories of my staying in Morocco, that nest of bandits
December 2nd, 2008 at 22:15“Ian Gillan- Live in Anaheim” in italy is not aivable..
the time has come to order it..!! The same I did for LIVE IN LONDON (1974Mk3).,great double cd.
If a read the title of the new Gillan’s (One Eye To Morocco) I get to think it will be not a real rock cd but something of experimental ,or with some mediterraneo sound, something of exotic sound… I would it rock only…
I am waiting for it
