A tale of two tribes
Our very own undercover war correspondent reports with a despatch from the New Forest:
In the 11th century on boggy marshland near the south coast of England, King William 1 created The New Forest. It came as quite a shock to the Boggy Marshans who’d been used to scraping a living on open ground.
Rapidly maturing trees had the civilizing effect of dividing a first nation into two tribes. When The Separation occurred over a dramatically short period, superstition and lifestyle adapted to the altered environment.
Read the parable on Caramba! Yes, there’s a moral to it.
Thanks to Steve Campbell for the info.
It must be me………………but I fell asleep half way through.
A cunning linguist? MMmmm………….
November 6th, 2008 at 09:08I have to look it up yet
One of my ancestors who migrated from Germany to the USA in the 19th centrury created a complete forest as well.
I did not know that , only recently I found the item on Wikipedia
Quite remarkable cause I already had the knowledge of another ancestor here in Holland who planted a lane of chestnuttrees in the 20th century
And my favourite tree is the chestnut, since I was tree, and I did not know any of the above things.

Makes you wonder, doesn t it?

Have a relaxing weekend everyone…now it’s time to try some imported Kentish Ale called Spitfire, hhmmmmm.

November 7th, 2008 at 20:01Not to forget that three of my cousins of the same name as the ancestors in the 80 s planned to create a forest on a location near the side.
A piece of water seperated from the sea and it had already a lot of vegetation after about 30 years
We did not know about the things our ancestors did , I remember
Unfortuanately we never did proceed with our plan
We just forgot about it
Now, almost 30 years later, I feel a bit sad we did.
