Hear new music from Jon Lord
Jon Lord has published a new piece of music on his website. Titled Air on the Blue String, the piece – which is a work in progress – was partly inspired by classical musicians’ ability to improvise and blends blue(s) notes with a classical theme.
Air on the Blue String was first performed and filmed at Zermatt Unplugged in Switzerland in April. Watch it on JonLord.org.
how many new albums Lord did in the last few years?
September 2nd, 2008 at 20:53in which he paly?
and what’s the BEST?
The only piece he doesn’t perform on is Boom of the Tingling Strings, but on the same album you find Disguises, which he performs on.
Albums:
Boom of the Tingling Strings (incl. Disguises)(2008)
Durham Concerto album (2008)
Danger, White men Dancing with the Hoochie Coochie Men (2007)
Beyond the Notes (2004)
Pictured Within (1997)
How do you define ‘the best’? They’re all excellent but very different. It depends what you like and prefer – and whether you’re prepared for something different.
September 2nd, 2008 at 21:04Rasmus, I think you’re wrong about Disguises. It’s scored for string orchestra and I don’t hear any piano or organ on it at all (I saw the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra play the first movement of it last year and there was definitely no piano or organ).
So unless Jon has taken up the violin lately…
September 2nd, 2008 at 21:22I have beyond the notes and I like it but my favourite is pictured within.I don’t like so much hoochie coochie men because is always the same old blues(there’s a track with gillan singing?).
September 3rd, 2008 at 13:24Now I’m interested with the two last releases(I hope they will not be boring)
Hmmm, so it depends…
I love the “Hoochie Coochie” Most – because I love the Hammond instead of piano. And it’s great Blues-Rock. And the Songs are VERY diverse. Far from boring.
Surely the piano works are more art. Classical art. But I love more the Rock Music. So his classical works are also fantastic. I would love if he would do something with band and Orchestra again, like “the Concerto”, “Gemini Suite” or the very underrated “Before I Forget”…
Jon is a multistyle musician. That what makes him a maestro!
But the “Hoochie Coochie” is fantstic! One of Jon’s best Hammond works.
September 3rd, 2008 at 16:55You’re absolutely right, Karl-Heinz.
Purchased ‘Danger, white men dancing cd + dvd’ just recently, and have been enjoying it immensely…
a great blues-based outfit & quite diverse songs,
as you pointed out.
Must refresh my memory, though, and dive deep into
‘Pictured Within’ & ‘Gemini Suite’ again.
Cheers to ya all,
Sami
September 3rd, 2008 at 18:11I am agree with you Karl-Heinz..I like Hoochie Coochie even if the vocalist is not my favourite. I bought it also in honour of The Great
BOB DASLEY!
Jon “Hammond” Lord is Lord,no more words!
September 3rd, 2008 at 20:29Gemini Suite,
I am Gemini, like Jon Lord, This make me feel good.
🙂
September 3rd, 2008 at 20:30Me too,I love hammond!
but pictured is more inventive, particular, original, personal, refined and there is more art in it while in hoocie. there’s standard music that I have listened in many of the 60 and 70 english american blues rock outfit.the opposite for picture which I think it’s an underrated masterpiece

September 8th, 2008 at 14:29Indeed, now that you’ve widened the scope from ‘the last few years’ to ‘all the years’, they’re all rather excellent in each their own way. 🙂

Hi,
as far as I know, one of the best songs of JonLord was to hear every monday (in the 80s) on BFBS “Monday Rock Show”. This song was always the theme song.
But unfortunately I can remember the name.
Can anyone help ?
Regard
