December 15th, 2007 at 18:49O Dear………….
Di I miss something?
This afternoon visited my local recordshop PLATO in RotjeKnor again…………
Saw this WinterCarol thing…………..
“Pleasssssssssssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
let me out of heaven, it’s awful here………………”
December 15th, 2007 at 21:50I have not seen the video for “Paris Moon” just yet, but I have cycled through the CD twice. The sound appears to be much better than “Castles & Dreams”. The quality is pretty good.
“Fires at Midnight” could have been turned into a more Rainbow-esque guitarfest given the promise of the original, but overall the product is as expected by Blackmore’s Night fans.
Personally, the title of the German program in which they appear, Weihnachten bei uns, is pretty interesting when one considers ‘Winter Carols’ was deliberately non-denominational. Frankly, I like the idea of Blackmore’s Night being associated with “Weihnachten” as “Winter Carols” seemed a bit generic and secular for something that was obviously intended for Christmas.
December 16th, 2007 at 21:49‘Jingle Bells’…………………so bemusing!!
December 17th, 2007 at 14:52I’m very sorry that Ritchie makes such non-spiritual, almost died some kind of pop-folk. Blackmore’s Night is full shit, nobody needs such kind of music. Blackmore’s Night is somehow popular, cause it Ritchie’s project, other way it wouldn’t be popular at all.
RB is died as musician. RB was THE GREATEST guitarist, he WAS #1 in his genre, but he can’t do it anymore. now he’s #5461313448881 in his current genre – pop-folk.
December 17th, 2007 at 19:02Hey GEORGE,
December 17th, 2007 at 20:42Thats YOUR meaning.
If it makes Ritchie happy ( I thing so ) he should do what he wanted to do.
Blackmore could quit today and he would still be the greatest hard rock guitarist based on all the work he has already done. Don’t argue. You’re wrong!
And he CAN still do it. He chooses not to. Personal liberty. This man has nothing to prove. He’s already proven it.
Blackmore’s Night would still be popular despite Blackmore’s reputation as a rocker. Many of the listeners are not Deep Purple or Rainbow fans, and some have never even heard of Purple or Rainbow. It’s not an entirely new audience–but it would hold its own, and my estimation is that a large population of the audience may have heard of Purple but are not the avid Purple fans as on this site.
Blackmore’s Night does not appeal to a lot of Purple and Rainbow fans for obvious reasons. I can appreciate that. However, just because some don’t LIKE it doesn’t make it tripe. It does make some people disappointed–and I appreciate that as well.
No one is twisting anyone’s arms to buy the albums.
By the way–“Jingle Bells” isn’t on Winter Carols. But it IS in various live versions of “Wring That Neck”.
December 18th, 2007 at 03:36T, you are so right, To all you braindead people who ALWAYS kick RB get a life or at least dont write here. It’s ok not to like BN, but then dont write here and dont listen to it. I would give my right arm to see RB play real rock again, as only he can, but still in BN it’s great to hear him play. In BN he still plays FAR better and more exciting stuff than 95% of all rock guitar players are able to play these days.
December 18th, 2007 at 07:27So Rascal, George, dave and others – have a nice life OUTSIDE this forum.
Have seen Purple 8 times: 2 Slaves & Masters (fantastic start with BURN, first time for Hall of the mountain King live, great shows in London), 1 GLORIOUS “Come hell…” tour in Germany (Munich not Stuttgart, but Anya was just as glorious), the rest… morse era, (even the concerto revisited) don’t get me wrong, great purple shows with morse. amazing if you please and great fun, BUT….
if you’ve never seen the man in black live, you truly are missing something… only comparable in their own instruments with keith emerson and neil peart. Even then, Blackmore has this unique gift of virtuosism, expressiveness, improvisational skill, knowledge of his craft and of his music (and a lot of other sorts of music as well as he has proven over many years) that cannot really be compared to any other guitarist in the history of rock. You want shredders and a long debate on it? go see G3 (with all the extra guests…. more remarkably Fripp, then Malmsteen for speed) and get your ass bored for 2 hours of mindless repetitive flurries of notes. (in there you can compare Morse to them and give him the kudos). You want bluesier players in the rock medium or even right down blues guitarists? Clapton, Gilmour, Guy… for all of the above, Blackers takes them all to the cleaners easily)
Caught BN in Chicago and everything I said and felt was recomfirmed (particularly since he now also plays mandola, hurdy gurdy, acoustic, 12 string and obviously the Strat! no better live solo in the millenium so far for me than Ariel, simply breathtaking) Next day, caught Mahler’s sixth with the CSO, but that goes on another blog I guess.
BTW, for those who like praising mk8 so much, please chk mk2 on you tube 1971, wring that neck or mandrake root (there are several versions) and be amazed. 1971!!!! By this same year the “guitar wonders” of Hendrix and Allman both departed, while Ritchie was just really starting to blossom. Just another thought.
December 18th, 2007 at 08:13In your opinion
December 18th, 2007 at 11:14Dpprl: Well said. Great comments.
December 18th, 2007 at 23:29Hot babe ……. hot guitar. what else is there ?
December 20th, 2007 at 20:01I agree with George! Rainbow’s Long Live Rockin Roll was the hardest best Rainbow album , love Ritchies heavy guitar work on that & i’m pround to pump it up in my car stereo. But Blackmore Night now that sux , i don’t even own one cd & wouldn’t pump that in my car. Ritchie was at his peak in the late 70’s with song’s like All Night Long , Kill The King just have a listen to live in Munich 77 totally kicks arse. He also made some geat tunes on Battle Rages on & Stranger In Us All then he went down hill. Some of his guitar work with Joe Lynn Turner was great too like Death Alley Driver!
December 25th, 2007 at 11:19If Blackmore is happy to be a Robin Hood look a like. Let him.
The music makes me fall into sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Rock on/XL
January 9th, 2008 at 19:57Opinions Vs. Facts:
Opinion – “Blackmore’s Night Sucks”
Fact – Blackmore’s Night is a Great Band
Fact – Ritchie’s writing and playing in Blackmore’s Night is very good.
Fact – those whose opinion is “Blackmore’s Night Sucks” need ear training and education in music appreciation to realize their own ignorance.
Fact- Musical Taste is something you develop by listening to many styles and musicians. Some people pigeon-hole themselves by only listening to music with Loud Guitars and Drums. Their Loss.
Disclaimer – I am a fan of all Marks of DP.
