2008 touring
Just as 2007 tours wrap up and musicians take a well deserved break, news started trickling in about plans for the next year. It looks like Deep Purple will be undertaking another one of the annual summer tours of Germany (2007 was the first year since, well, time immemorial, when the band didn’t play in Germany).
One of the most prominent European rock festivals — Sweden Rock Festival — has just announced it’s 2008 lineup, which includes Whitesnake and Joe Satriani. Tickets will go on sale January 1. The festival will be held June 4-7 2008 in Sölvesborg.
Check our tour dates listing for the latest details and ticket info as we receive it.
Thanks to Roger Gasser and Blabbermouth.net for the info.
Does this mean no MKII reunion to celebrate their 40th anniversary??? In that case, shame on them!!! As long as they continue touring/ promoting the Machine Head album, like they’ve done for years and years now, they just as well could’ve done it with Mr. Lord and Mr. Blackmore.
Also, does this mean no new studio recordings in 2008???
Ahh, lucky us, who’ve supported them through thick and thin. We’ll get another chance to hear Smoke On the Water, Black Night, PoH etc. Some things just stays the same, doesen’t they?
Progressive, looking into the future, “alive”, up to date, valid? Nah!!! Don’t think so!
If you guys are going to continue, at least be bold enough to do stuff from Purpendicular onwards. Don’t be a tribute to your past. Blackmore is gone, so is Lord. Move on!!!
Jeeeezzzz…
December 4th, 2007 at 19:33Lucky Germans.
I just hope they (Purple) make another sweep through the plains states here in USA next year.
Til then, my “Montreaux 2006” and “1996” DVD’s will continue to get frequent playtime on my TV.
Keep up the great music, guys!
Does anyone recommend any other Morse era DVD’s?
December 4th, 2007 at 20:08It seems that the 2008 program is South America and Asia early in the year, the North America if the spring (I heard maybe a co-headlining tour with Aerosmith, but nothing sure !) and then indeed a German summer tour.
About Morse era DVD’s, Perihelion is really good, and Total Abandon, even though the setlist isn’t great, contain a very good show too.
December 4th, 2007 at 20:15Come on guys, bring on the tour to Poland… You haven’t visited my country since 2006.
December 4th, 2007 at 21:03Can you include Buenos Aires – Argentina in your “Tour Dates”?
December 4th, 2007 at 21:57Thank you !!!! Superb !!!!!
Actually it´s the first summer tour since 2003! And although the promo tours have been rich of dates in the last years, in between has been considerably little. 2004 and 2005 had only one gig each(Coburg and Düsseldorf respectivly). I think the only years where DP haven´t been to germany at all were 1995 and 1984 before that, but those weren´t really tours just a very few dates in those years.
December 4th, 2007 at 22:21Time again to visit Australia, and this time with a local support not a Fourth rate Status Quo
December 4th, 2007 at 22:32please…come to México City in 2008
December 5th, 2007 at 00:44Deep Lavender Wrote: >Does anyone recommend any other Morse era DVD’s?
Yes DL. I don’t have either of the Montreaux DVD’s you mentioned, but I do have Perihelion which came out in 2002. I think it’s from their 2000 tour in the US. The show was recorded in Florida, and it features a very nice song selection, and the sound and visuals are very good. Especially in DTS 5.1.
I do recommend this DVD to you!
December 5th, 2007 at 05:10But DP never stops for a break? they have been touring since long time! always around the world:they are real nomads! 🙂
December 5th, 2007 at 07:31Between the end of thecurrent tour, & the confirmed German dates, theres a 9 month break. Long enough for the guys to get into a studio together, & record a new album if they choose do so. Whether that is the plan, or whether they’re going to use the break to concentrate on solo projects, is ofcourse up to them.
December 5th, 2007 at 08:20The Germans just love them
December 5th, 2007 at 08:22Keep those pension contributions topped up!!
December 5th, 2007 at 08:31Hey! Russia is waiting 😉 We needs just a 10-15 concerts in october ;))))
December 5th, 2007 at 08:57Please Please come back to OZ, better venues and NO QUO. Ian when will you reschedule your Gillan tour of OZ that was cancelled? I had front row tickets.
December 5th, 2007 at 10:48Russia will get great tour in october 2008
December 5th, 2007 at 14:01RG said to me in Paris, they will book studio for the fall(2008) until then continue touring, as there is territory not yet covered, he mentioned Asia…
December 5th, 2007 at 16:56Why a MKII reunion to celebrate their 40th anniversary, if MKII got together in 1969? You can look forward to 2009, but don’t hold your breath.
Anyway, if it’s true there is a nice long break, then please record a new album together…you guys are still in a league of your own.
ps: Thanks for great show in SF. My friends are still raving about it!!!
December 5th, 2007 at 17:17GREAT !! Summertour in Germany !!! Looking forward to 2008 !!
December 5th, 2007 at 17:32Hey Greg Furlong,
December 5th, 2007 at 19:20I agree, the last Oz tour was crap…….due only to the Quo inclusion. I too have never understood why DP dont ever have decent support acts,or at least current rising bands as support. Thorpie was good though. RIP.
Pete.
heres an idea for next year-bung out a best morse era collection with a couple of new tracks and play later era tracks on the tour. Also there is no such thing as a forth rate quo… ask mr gillan.
December 5th, 2007 at 20:34the us in early 08 ?!!!! too cool !!!!!!
December 5th, 2007 at 21:27lets hope they find time for another new cd also !!!!!!
December 5th, 2007 at 21:29Great idea Big Al!
December 5th, 2007 at 22:05Thats why we need Mark ONE to reunite…………..
30 years guys.
Rod and Nick deserve that…….
Yeah, I know what Rod did in 1980. But what did YOU do to the name?
Rod said he had a line up with people ready to perform as Deep Purple, so do you…………without founders RB and JL…….
“And as the year is growing older I see winter on my shoulder….”
Rod was a real POET……….
December 5th, 2007 at 23:18How about a SHADES OF PURPLE summer concert tour
* Coverdale/Hughes
December 6th, 2007 at 00:06* The original Deep Purple
* Deep Purple (Morse material only)
How can you have a “World Tour” without coming to Africa !!
December 6th, 2007 at 05:20About time DP came back to South Africa – it’s been 12 years since their first and only visit ! Come on Guys
Maybe it’s time to remind everyone that it’s not really up to the band where they will play. It’s not like bands can say “oh, let’s go to [insert your favorite country here], it’s been a while since the last time/we’ve never been there”. It takes two to tango and in the world of professional touring, it takes a local promoter to decide there is interest enough for a concert, a proper venue and so on. And then of course it has to work with the band’s touring schedule so they don’t play Sydney one day, Johannesburg the next and then Los Angeles on the third day.
December 6th, 2007 at 10:53PLEASE ANOTHER GILLAN – GLOVER ‘ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE’ ALBUM!!!!!!!!!
December 6th, 2007 at 15:16NEXT TOUR WITH NAZARETH IN ITALY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE MUCH UNDERRATED
PLEASE NEXT SONGS ON THE NEW ALBUM SHOULD FASTER AND HEAVYER!!!!!!!
Hell, why can’t we have a FESTIVAL with DP and family?!
3 days of fun, music, passion, old friends and enemies(..), lots of Burgundy(RIP Tommy)……Some more or less incarnations of DP, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Gillan………
Johnny Bolin and Glenn can do Come Taste the band, Tommy Soloçd’s and other projects(MOXY anyone?).
MK 3 can do a Burning Stormbringer…… at day 3
MK 1 can do 1 hour full of their finest on day one
Mk 2 can do another on day 2……..
JLT and Glen will do a show of HTP
DIo, …….
Don with COLOSSEUM?
Glenn solo, ……
Gillan can reunite theiir Glory Road line up and
Janick will be very happy to Hadely Bop Bop and so on……….
Some OLD and later WHITESNAKE
Rb and Candy can snooze us off into sleep very night…….

December 6th, 2007 at 17:05hello – TheHighwayStar.com
Deep Purple please come to Greece again ! in 2008.
pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!
dp for ever !!
December 6th, 2007 at 18:02Dear Purplepriest1965;
I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one dreaming when it comes to Deep Purple, and and their extensive family tree! The same could be done with Black Sabbath and Rainbow; Ozzy, Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, Roger Glover, Neil Murray, Tony Martin, Ronnie James Dio, Joe Lynn Turner, Graham Bonnet, unfortunately not Cozy Powell! Like you I’ll have to settle with my own made compilations on CD.
December 6th, 2007 at 18:09Addendum:
After I hit enter I realized I neglected to state the obvious, Ritchi Blackmore & Tony Iommi!
December 6th, 2007 at 18:12Please, come to México in 2008!!!!!!!
December 6th, 2007 at 21:47Yeah, you’re right….
Forgot about a dozen of them………..
Tony Martin, Bobby Rondinelli, ………amongstothers are VERY UNDERRATED people.
I went to a clinic by Bobby some time ago. He’s a real comedian as well. Never expected that, thought he was as grumpy as Mister B. and…erm well, myself……….
On the other hand :
I am full of WIT as well.
Rainbow colours………….
“I saw you dancing ………
December 6th, 2007 at 22:05dancing on air……
Lost in the spotlights……..”
TORONTO
December 7th, 2007 at 04:48Sounds all well and good, and far be it from me to ‘piss’ on your parade, but I think maybe that too many ‘egos’ would be involved.
Saying that though, maybe a few songs, a good fight, a few more songs, could be quite entertaining.
December 7th, 2007 at 09:14Gillan vs Blackmore……………….THE GRUDGE MATCH
Id pay to watch that!!
December 7th, 2007 at 09:29DEEP PURPLE FAMILY SHOW could be a dream come true,
December 7th, 2007 at 13:18the problem is the Gillan-Blackmore ego but they have to understand that without our support they don’t exist, so:make us happy!!!
Personally a butterfly ball reunion will be incredible.
Ritchie Blackmore
December 7th, 2007 at 13:33Pleassssssssssssseeeeeeeee
Don’t make me happy…..
December 7th, 2007 at 14:03Ofcourse it,s “In the starlight”, not “spotlights”………
I do know that……….
Journalistieke vrijheid?
Anyone?
December 7th, 2007 at 14:24Id put my money on Gillan, although Blackmore may surprise us all.
Anyones guess I suppose
December 7th, 2007 at 14:56I HOPE EVERY MEMBER OF DEEP PURPLE WILL READ THIS:
December 7th, 2007 at 15:19WE WANT DEEP PURPLE FAMILY SHOW.
YOU WOULD NOT PLAY WITHOUT OUR SUPPORT.
LET US HAPPY AND DO IT!
I need to see and hear them be4fore I close my eyes. I am 50 yr old but with their music I am crazy teen again. Come to Canada. You must! Air here is full of Deep Purple.
December 7th, 2007 at 16:30Hope to see you this year.
Pete
Give it to the 2nd round………………….Blackmore down for the count
Its all over !!!
December 7th, 2007 at 16:54Hey Deep Purple come to Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2008, Pleaseeeeeee!
December 7th, 2007 at 17:15The return and revenge of CAPTAIN BEYOND!!!!!!!!!!
Watch them at YouTube and be amazed………
Rod, where are you?!
It’s time to show up………..
December 7th, 2007 at 22:07Yes, Captain Beyond: The most underrated of the extended Deep Purple family and an example of what MkI could have done had they continued. Nick Simper did some interesting work in the late 70’s with Fandango as well.
These armchair reunions are not going to happen–unfortunately. Glenn Hughes would definitely do it, as he recently has come to appreciate what Purple meant to him. Coverdale’s ’87 Whitesnake has given *him* a sort of superstar status and he most likely feels he doesn’t need Purple. Paice would not stiff the current Deep Purple. Blackmore doesn’t look back.
Having said that, a sort of “MkIII” group along the lines of “Heaven & Hell,” say, a group called “Burn” or “Stormbringer” with Blackmore and Hughes, perhaps Lord and (very doubtful) Coverdale with another drummer wouldn’t be totally out of the question as Blackmore probably wouldn’t mind showing up the current DP–but until his current project runs its course, nothing of that sort will ever happen. As with the DP Reunion, it will take one person to serve as a catalyst.
For the time being, I’m ecstatic we still have a Deep Purple, I’m looking forward to seeing them again in Kansas City (Don’t forget guys–we broke a record here with “Smoke”–we deserve a stop) and I hope the next album comes out soon with Glover’s return pushing the buttons.
December 8th, 2007 at 16:40I hope DEEP PURPLE to come to JAPAN!!!
December 9th, 2007 at 09:45Oh yes, Captain Beyond was on par with DP MkII and so was
Warhorse.Absolutely stunning, yet criminally underrated bands!!
A MkIII reunion is possible even without Paicey…
if Lord & Blackmore could be persuaded to do it,
Coverdale doesn’t have the nerve to say no!
My guess is that the 40th anniversary year/tour will be nothing special :
December 9th, 2007 at 13:46Michael Bradford for ‘special quest’, anyone 🙂
…but let’s keep our fingers crossed, maybe there’ll be a surprise or two
December 9th, 2007 at 16:57for the fans.
`Please, come to Brazil and make a DEEP PURPLE FAMILY SHOW worldwide tour. We deserve it.
December 9th, 2007 at 22:50With love
We glady expect that you guys come over with all the family together. And worldwide. Anyway, thanx for your music!!!
December 9th, 2007 at 22:52You know…I doubt these guys are even *aware* of an anniversary. They’ve been known to forget out it. I doubt Ritchie has thought about it.
Which drummer do you recommend for a MkIII group? Chad Smith? He’d do it. Ex-Rainbow drummers?
Anyone?
December 10th, 2007 at 01:56I ve been watching YOUTUBE today a lot…….
Don’t do that every week……..
This time I picked up a lot of clips from the HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHT tour
Although we (YUP)then had our criticisms about setlists and so on(Gillan’s voice, espescially during CIT)in that year as well……….
I LOVED the gigs I saw.
No……….that’s not entirely true………
I saw 4 shows :
the first in Bruxelles(Belgium) . That was good I think……
And 2 nights in AHOY/Rotterdam(NL) after that………
A 3 nighter………
I ll never forget Ian Gillan pointing at me, while standing in front of him for the 3rd night in a row, during the beginning of Highway Star……. saying : “3 nights, great, wonderful…”
The first gig in Rotterdam was amazing.
The 2nd gig was abig dissappointment……..
Why? Erm, lots of people think IG had not been taking care of himself after the first show……….I don’t know….
BUT I was so glad I saw the first night!!!!!!!
Some months later I saw them in Nurnberg. Great show and IG was in good shape. His hair was growing again, maybe it did help…….
I missed tracks from the album like “Strangeways” but was exited about the live renditions of “the Unwritten Law”and “Dead or Alive”.
It was only 2 years in the reunion and we were still very glad to get the Live in Japan tracks, incl the LONG version of “Space Trucking”………..
We also got “Bad Attitude” and “Hard Loving Woman”.
As usual the tracks did work better live and we got MORE ORGAN instead of those terrible synths!!!!
Everyone still thinking the reunion years with RB and JL were dreadful should take a better look at those 1987 clips.
And earlier on we were already treated on great clips from the Battle Rages On Tour from 93,.
In which EVERYONE can see what I m talking about when I say who’s playing great during those gigs and who’s well…………..not exactly cutting it all the time………..
Wish I had a FULL SHOW of those tours.
And NOT like The Come Hell Or High Water DVD shows :
a bad night and everything gone sour again………
Like the PARIS 85 show…………..so ashamed to be A DP fan then………..
1993 :
And then to think I witnessed a great show in Essen, some weeks earlier.
There was laughter on stage and even then people did not believe me ’cause they only saw later shows in which “they” behaved like little children again……….
I really hope someone(?) will dig deep one day into QUALITY tapes and recordings and release a REAL SHOWING of what DP was and could be………………….
December 10th, 2007 at 02:24T;
How about Ansley Dunbar? He’s worked with Coverdale, and I don’t think he’s done much lately!
December 10th, 2007 at 11:25Aynsley Dunbar would be great, Chad Smith also. Chuck Burgi or John O. Reilly from Rainbow fame, maybe. I know the 40th anniversary isn’t about MkIII, just a thought in the lines of the recent Heaven & Hell – project. Wishful thinking for sure, but it’s more likely to happen than MkII, or any other incarnation of DP other than the current one. I just hope for fans sake that ‘the festivities’ will be something special(‘didn’t want to make a fuss about it’, or similar bullshit are lame excuses, regardless of egos involved)…and bring out Simper & Evans also, they deserve it!!
December 10th, 2007 at 13:30Agreed Purple Priest.
Most fans (on the internet anyway) seem to think the reunion years with RB and JL were dreadful and yet, looking at those ’87 clips, it’s a different story.
I also agree that someone should dig deep into QUALITY tapes and recordings and release a REAL SHOWING of what DP was and could be………………….
Like Jimmy Page would do with his pet project aka LZ. Anytime I see some slick Zeppelin DVD/video thing come out, I can’t help but think, this is what DEEP PURPLE should have. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for the Zeppelin fan, but I want some slick DP product that is flattering as well.
December 10th, 2007 at 21:20Yep, Ormandy……..
Exactly what I thought in regard to Led Zeppelin……
Btw, just saw a newsitem about the SHOW they gave tonight……
Has anybody a review or link to a youtubeclip?
I saw them in 1980, a few months before John Bonham died……..
I was only 15……….
Yep………
42 now…….
Like Ian Gillan in those HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHT tour clips…….
Stiil did not cut my hair though……
hehehe
December 10th, 2007 at 23:10Everyone wants some kind of 40th special event tour?, to satisfy their own ego. No “lame excuses or similar bullshit”, who is running the show anyway (not the fans)? All of the “experts” on this site say “never blame the band”, for most things are out of their control. I will take anything DP wants to give,
December 11th, 2007 at 00:40and I don’t care about anniversaries, just a good show for my hard earned $$$. Reunions… MKII – never happen, MKIII – very doubtful, Simper & Evans – no way. Let us just enjoy DP while we still can and be glad if they come to your town!!
Sami;
I agree! An all inclusive tour; Evans, Simper, Turner, Hughes, Coverdale, Blackmore, Gillan, Glover, Lord, Paice, Morse, Airey. And if Paice doesn’t want to participate in Mark I or III, bring in Dunbar, Rondinelli, Burgi, Aldrich, or Smith. It would be huge!
December 11th, 2007 at 00:44An all inclusive tour (with 100% participation) would be more than HUGE, it would be MONSTROUS but we all know it ain’t gonna happen. Dreaming is cool but I will settle for a visit from DP anywhere close that I can go. (and besides I dig the current lineup just fine)
December 11th, 2007 at 02:31Having an all inclusive 100% reunion tour = impossible. But it would be cool to see an all-inclusive 100% attendance at Deep Purple’s induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. To see all that talent assembled on stage to accept the honor would be great!
December 11th, 2007 at 04:01For sure they ALL deserve it!!!
I know the R&R Hall of Fame is itself a joke, but the bands recognition is deserved and long overdue!
BUTTERFLY BALL SHOW
AND
DEEP PURPLE FAMILY REUNION WITH ALL THE MEMBERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think we have to keep on pudhing with this request and one day it will be released(as for the requestion of the song ‘loosen my string’ on the actual tour tracklist)
December 11th, 2007 at 19:38I was expecting a huge concert. Gillan, Ritchie, Jon, Glenn, David, Roger… everybody sharing the stage. It’s a dream. But we – the fans – deserve it. Through this 40 years we’ve been the Purple’s support. We buy the albuns, we go the concerts. We sing their songs and we pass it to our kids. We made them who they are. Now, who do they think they are? Vanity, (stupid) pride, arrogance… I’m very sad about the future of the band I love. I love those guys… I love Richie, Ian, David, Joe, Steve, Glenn… and I guess everybody does it. So, guys… just do it. Get together! And let the fans to be proud of you once again.
Ps- Sorry abou my bad english. I hope you all understand me.
Diogo – from Brasil.
December 13th, 2007 at 00:04They should play more recent material. Look at a Bruce Springsteen setlist and note how many of his most commercially successful songs appear. Even the Stones are very diverse compared to Deep Purple. I really want a new album from Deep Purple, as well!
December 13th, 2007 at 12:16Don’t hold your breath, indeed…………….
December 14th, 2007 at 02:11That’s good. BUT!!! WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD DEEP PURPLE’S NEW STUDIO ALBUM. can’t wait. We love Rapture, we love Bananas, we love Abandon and of course we love Purpendicular BUT!!! WE NEED MORE ALBUMS TO LOVE, WE NEED NEW STUDIO ALBUM IN 2008!!!
Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
December 15th, 2007 at 10:11George, please…………………
Shut up!
Mildred.
December 15th, 2007 at 21:58purplepriest1965
What? wanna me begin swearing? Who are you? talk with me politely and respect other’s opinions!
December 17th, 2007 at 08:01This was just trying to be funny, George.
Never saw the English Comedy “George and Mildred”?
You kept on repeating the same text, so…………it prompted me to……..
Good day to you, George………
BTW.
Who am I?
Should I reveal myself much more……?
It almost gets embarassing……….
Is it important?
December 17th, 2007 at 12:12WE are all goldfish in a bowl blabbering about one of “our favourite subjects”…….
George and Mildred………………………Man About The House
Revelations…………….this one!
December 17th, 2007 at 12:15purplepriest1965 uses way too many elipses’ in his responses, or is that just his style of writing.
I agree with George about everybody respecting other people’s opinions in these blogs even though I think he meant it towards purplepriest.
Also, I think someone talked about DP coming to North America in the spring sometime. I hope it’s fact and not just rumour. Let’s see if their management can book a gig at Meadowbrook here in Gilford, NH. I’d yet to see them in my actual hometown, heck in NH. Seen them once in 05′ in Scranton PA., twice this year in Boston, MA, and Wallingford, CT.
…hope they’ll play brand new songs that would be on their next album if they come.
December 18th, 2007 at 01:42hey you have to come down to argentina, we miss you (elo)
December 23rd, 2007 at 04:38
