New world record for Smoke on the Water
June 3 is the date of a new world record for the most guitar players simultaneously playing together. Location was Kansas City and the song was Smoke on the Water. The new record was set at 1,680 people and that’s the number Stuttgart will have to beat. Ritchie Backmore forever!
June 5th, 2007 at 09:54Ritchie Blackmore forever!
June 5th, 2007 at 09:54Never will be something so simple and so sophisticated at the same time. Long live Ritchie Blackmore.
June 5th, 2007 at 11:07Ritchie is The Greatest!
I want Blackmore, Lord, Gillan, Glover, Paice again for farewell tour.
June 5th, 2007 at 11:15Morse and Airey are ok, but this is not Deep Purple at all.
Ritchie Blackmore is Deep Purple. And the best Deep Purple version is the second one. The Greatest Band Ever!
Lord is the best!
June 5th, 2007 at 13:49I think there is ” no one the best”. Every Line up have their ups and downs and every Line up have a special direction they want to play.
Blackmore has been at the right place, at the right time with the right idea – did he wrote “smoke” by himself alone ?
Congratulation to DP, that they will be heard worldwide and that there is such a contest with one of their songs.
Play the song you like – and play them loud.
June 5th, 2007 at 14:12If you look closely you might spot Blackmore hiding in the crowd. The top hat, wispy moustache, moody look, and mandolin give it away!!
He will do anything to play ‘Smoke On The Water’ again……………..
Well Blackmore………..Its tooooooo late…….youve cooked your goose……….No farewell tour!!
Steve Morse………now thats a guitar player!!!
June 5th, 2007 at 14:23Oh fiddle de dee you GITS!
Why not bring back Bobby Woodman, and for a change let Gillan play the stylophone.
June 5th, 2007 at 15:38When we did the “test” and everyone came in with the riff at the countdown, it was all in synch. A magical moment. I used the same Stratocaster that Ian Gillan had signed, now used in the World Record attempt. I know the Germans will crush our record, but it was still a very special time and I was happy to be a part of it.
June 5th, 2007 at 15:38I was there as well. Came all the way from Calif. to participate. It was quite amazing to experience. SOTW was the first song I ever learned to play all the way through. While standing on a field with 1,682 other players was cool, what a lot of people don’t know is there were easily 2,000 more people in the stands rocking out and cheering us on. Having never played in front of a group like that, for me, that was a truly magical experience.
June 5th, 2007 at 16:15four notes conquered the whole world…
June 5th, 2007 at 19:09Get over Blackmore you sooks. You sound like 8 year old children who’s crying for their dummy!!!! Yes, Blackmore was one of the greatest guitarists of all time, but it’s over. MK2 is finished forever. MK8 is here to stay and they ARE Deep Purple and they are playing as well as Deep Purple ever has. In case you’re wondering, Steve Morse has now played more gigs as the guitarist of Deep Purple than anyone else (including Blackmore). He’s paid his dues, so credit where it’s due please.
Rant over!!!!
June 5th, 2007 at 22:28Oh crap…I was there and I played “Paranoid.” Whoops.
June 5th, 2007 at 23:18The four notes that conquered the whole world was Beethoven’s 5th, just beating out Ritchie by 164 years.
June 6th, 2007 at 00:29Blackmore is legend! Greatest guitar player ever!
June 6th, 2007 at 07:21Here’s to the man in black, anyone who states that mk8 is here to stay is lost forever, as nothing lasts forever and Purple always were Blackmore, Lord & Paice. No matter who the vocalist or bass player was at the time, this is the chemistry that is Deep Purple as the world knows it, full stop!
June 6th, 2007 at 09:58who ever this craig storey is he should not be leaving coments on this site you have no idea what your on about and i expect to c some sort of decent coment left to make up for the monstrosity of a coment uve just left!!!!!!!!deep purple are and always will be the greatest band of all time!!!!!!!!where is jon whereis jon lordy we miss u!!!!!!!
June 6th, 2007 at 11:20Gillan on stylophone!!
I like it Craig, damn fine idea!!
June 6th, 2007 at 15:41What about Jon Lord on the washboard, Glover on spoons, Paicey on digeridoo, Morse on the Hudy Gurdy??
June 6th, 2007 at 15:45The fact that so many people played together the same song is a recognition to the author, why Blackmore wasn’t there?
If you were the author of any song, and then suddenly you notice that more than 1500 people will play it together one given sunday, it’s not enough to get the plane and be there, or at least, send them a little note.
I just can’t understand it.
Sorry folks, I’m happy and sad.
June 6th, 2007 at 23:44Indgredients for Smoke On The Water consist of:-
1)Ian Gillan- vocals
2)Roger Glover – Bass
3)Ian Paice – percussion and drums
4)Don Airey – Keyboards
5)Steve Morse – Guitar
The above superceeds all previous recipes.
Please note The Blackmore and Lord additives are no longer used, required, or available. Also note the JLT additive should never ever be put in the mix, and should be made illegal even to suggest doing so.
June 7th, 2007 at 10:23hi,
don’t forget to come over to Stuttgart on 23.06.07 to make the biggest guitar party ever and establish a new world record with 1684 people playing “Smoke On The Water”. What a cool song:-)
We still hope to convince a member of Deep Purple to join us.
June 9th, 2007 at 14:21Airey and Morse are great, but as you said – It’s not deep purple at all… everybody knows DP is MK II… but nobody is able to make Gillan and Blackmore play together again… MK II time is over, MK 8 is doing what they can… and they do it really gooood… I love Deep Purple…
June 10th, 2007 at 17:20ritchie, is great magic, morse is good, bolin is briliant lord is magic and airey is wonderful — coverdale and gillant the both is singer purple ever had
