Coverdale says no to Mk.3 reunion
Here is David Coverdale’s response to the recent Glenn Hughes interview in which Glenn suggested that he had spoken to Coverdale, Lord and Blackmore through “third parties” and implied they all showed interest in a Mk.3 reunion.
Coverdale denied he has any interest in any lasting reunion, but he would participate in a one-off show featuring all surviving members of the band:
As disappointed as some may be, I am disappointed to have to keep repeating this, I have not agreed in any way, shape or form, to a reformation of Deep Purple Mark III, and my soul brother should be aware of that after our repeated conversations. Those of you who have followed and supported my for many years know how I feel about ‘going back.’ The only consideration, as I have said repeatedly in interviews, would be by willingness to be involved in a ‘one-off’ charity show which would feature all surviving members of Deep Purple.
As you all know who co-habit this little oasis of ours, I am entirely devoted to my band Whitesnake and have plans and ideas for the band that will take me as far as my rapidly maturing legs will allow and then some. I have nothing but the fondest and totally appreciative memories of my time spent with Purple and all the incredible adventures that continue to this day, related entirely to the opportunities I was given by the band. But, now it’s Whitesnake time, as far as I am concerned, and I am dedicated to fulfilling all my hopes, wishes and dreams to ensuring quality work for all involved in the Snake, and, along with the time I need to be with my family at home. That pretty much fills my years in the most satisfying way. If indeed there is a reformation, then I wish them every success, and perhaps Whitesnake could ‘special guest’ them somewhere!
Thanks to Blabbermouth.net for the info.
we are talking about reformation of DEEP PURPLE HERE??????who need a reformation DEEP PURPLE EXIST and still will and for the ones who don’t know there are still on the road: saw them 2 weeks ago as PURPLE AS NEVER. SO STOP ALL THIS BULLSHIT ABOUT REFORMATION we’ll talk about that in 15 years ok/ good on you david! elprupdeep@wanadoo ;fr:richard legris cheers!
April 9th, 2007 at 23:41David Coverdale is doing well as whitesnake but look at Jon Lord and Blackmore and you can sense that they are waisting there time with their projects so a Rainbow reformation with lord in the band is a more practical idea but who is willing to work with blackmore in the first place he is so moody that is why David is spot on with his idea of a one off show for charity at least Blackmore will not ask for a bigger share of the takings.
April 10th, 2007 at 11:50Well, they always talk about the reformation of “Deep Purple Mk III” and even though we have a ass-kickin` line up on the road, for people like me who are focussed on Mk 3 era and the whole Whitesnake catalogue as well, the idea of a second Purple tourin` with Coverdale on voc and exspecially Ritchie on the strings doin what he`s born for – to play the Fender and rock! – is thrilling. Well, anyway, this was just a rumour as you can read above… and without DC a reunion of Mk3 is not possible. This is sad, but his explanations are comprehensible.
April 23rd, 2007 at 08:16I love Deep Purple mark lll.The best………

January 24th, 2008 at 10:55The recreation of Mark Three will probably never happen but there is a small flame of hope that given certain circumstances Glenn Hughes may join Whitesnake just like Blackmore nearly did following his second departure from Deep Purple in ‘93.
July 29th, 2008 at 01:36I can definitely see the possibility of this scenario. Ex-Whitesnake guitarist John Sykes could even rejoin the band’s everfluid lineup during this time and why not the other two mentionable fromer Whitesnake members, Jon Lord and Ian Paice?
A little known fact is that Glenn Hughes has sung backround in a cuople of Snake albums so the effort would undoubtedly launch the band to levels of success they’re not expierencing now.
As much as Gillan has shaped the band we’ve never to this day see the explosive album likes of Burn ever graze the Deep Purple catalogue.
This lineup would definitely be incredible and hold the reigns of a modern supergroup.
The modern Deep Purple lineup could be finally put on hiatus while the project develops and who really cares about Whitesnakes current lineup?
When the right person bribes them to do this we’ll see them unite. John Sykes really is the only person in the rock community to fill Blackmore’s shoes and possibly Jeff Beck though it would be most unlikely he’d take to this venture.
I can almost hear the music of a future lineup like this with Glenn and Dave+ Others to revitalize Deep Purple yet again.
La reunión del Deep Purple Mark III estaría bien si solo es para un concierto y para no crear fricciones con la actual formación de Deep Purple, debería llamarse “Mark III”, aunque para ello tengan que contratar a otro baterista.
