Another Purple song is played in a german film named “Requiem”. It’s Anthem from the Mk1-formation. It plays a really central role in that film.

a little extra: in an interview (http://outnow.ch/specials/2006/Requiem/Interview-Schmid/) the director made some comments to “Anthem”:

Q: There is Deep Purple’s “Anthem” in the film. The rights were very expensive, but Sandra had already dance to it in the casting. So the questing, why that song?

Hans Christian Schmid: Bernd Lange, the author, already had the song in the script even with citations from the lyrics. We see the mood of the song, the pathos, the emotion so suitable for Reqiem, so we didn’t look further for alternatives but endeavoured us to the rights on the record company.

I still remember Highway Star was also used as a background song in a Shell commercial in the Philippines back in the ’90s.

I never thought Purple’s Highway Star was that mainstream to be in any commercial. Not to put down the song, it’s one of my fav’s.

Highway Star also was in a quick radio channel-change (the song they stopped at)
on “That 70’s Show” Kelso and Hyde were hijacking Eric’s ride (he was drunk)
and when he whined about the radio, they took charge!
Head-banging motions ensued when the song came on… way cool!
