It’s no big deal

Ian Gillan gave an interview to Chilean Radio Futuro that apparently went down the newswire and created a small stir worldwide. Despite the fact that he has not said there what he had not said before. Whatever I say about that is gonna sound wrong. But who the hell wants to be in an institution? […]

Smoke on the Lyme Regis

Ian Gillan sang Smoke on the Water at the Guitars on the Beach festival in Lyme Regis, UK, this Saturday, September 6. BBC reports that he was joined by 3,325 guitarists, which didn’t quite beat the world record of 6,546 (helped to set by Steve Morse in Poland 2009), but only a national one. Local […]

Guitars on the Beach update

More details have emerged about Gillan’s involvement with the Guitars on the Beach festival to take place in Lyme Regis in September. Festival organizer Geoff Baker spoke to the local paper Bridgeport News: With thousands of guitarists involved, they need to follow the house band on the song and we need a stage for the […]

Never the twain shall meet

Rolling Stone magazine (shock! shudder! who’d have imagined they still write about music?) has an interview with Ian Gillan, in which answers the question recently raised elsewhere. After the conversation detoured from the new album to the Rock’n’Roll HoF nonsense, it ended up with this: There was a lot of controversy this year with Kiss’ […]

A week in the life of Ian Gillan

Back in April Classic Rock Magazine has republished online a profile of Ian Gillan, concentrating on his everyday life outside of the band. The event is essentially a mass gathering of guitar players not unlike the ones that set the world record, albeit not on quite the scale: […]

Ian Gillan, Steve Morse, Joe Lynn Turner, and Graham Bonnet, along with extravaganza of classic rock luminaries, contributed to the Light My Fire – A Classic Rock Salute To The Doors CD which is due out on July June 24 via Cleopatra imprint Purple Pyramid Records. Steve Morse says: [The Doors were] a soundtrack, literally, […]

Writing in Portugal

It’s been a slow news week, but finally here’s a good one.

Swiss newspaper Basellandschaftliche Zeitung published an interview with Ian Gillan, in which he said (in reverse translation):

Good morning, Mr. Gillan, they told us you were in Portugal. May we ask what are you doing?

Ian Gillan: The whole band is there. We have a studio in the Algarve and working on new songs.

Après Vous in Nicosia

The highly controversial Northern Cyprus gig held this past weekend was a free concert, organized by the Near East University on occasion of their 25th anniversary. Ian Gillan did interviews, parts of which you can see below (in piss poor editing): Some more bits appear on the university web site, albeit still mostly exchange of […]
