Just back from Rainbow’s Glasgow gig, and Ritchie was absolutely fantastic! He was spot on form, and sounded brilliant!
He got some great sounding tones from his strat, and it was just magical to hear track after track of a Rainbow classics, all played by the man (in black) who wrote them!!
It’s not every night that you get to see a legend, and your idol, on stage!
And it was so nice (moving) that Man on the Silver Mountain was dedicated to the late, great Ronnie James Dio! Along with some classic images of Ritchie & Ronnie together projected on screen behind Ritchie as he played….Fabulous!!
The ultimate singer/guitarist duo that will never be surpassed…
It’s obvious (to me anyway) that Ritchie still misses Ronnie (as do we all), and even though Ritchie & Ronnie only played together for 4 years, those 4 years left a deep and lasting impression on everyone, not least Ritchie himself…
A fantastic, nostalgic gig, that took you way back to the early days of Rainbow, and beyond…A great night!
June 25th, 2017 at 23:47I thought it was lacklustre, with Blackmore’s wooden playing being the weakest element. Romero can certainly sing but is hardly the charismatic frontman, especially when filling the lulls between songs. A grudging 6/10 from me, and only because of Sixteenth Century Greensleeves. Biggest surprise of the night was Mostly Autumn. Never heard of them before this, and I’m not in to prog, but they rocked!
June 27th, 2017 at 12:43Sorry Rossco, have to agree with Kevin. I thought Rainbow in general & RB’s playing in particular was superb – & I’ve seen every Rainbow date in Scotland since 76. Even The Herald gave them a glowing review!
Btw Mostly Autumn have been regulars in Glasgow for a decade or so, usually @ the Ferry. Well worth checking out their gigs with expanded lineup. I think they came to RB’s notice some years back when Candice arranged for them to play at his birthday party.
June 28th, 2017 at 19:25Got to agree with Kevin – it was a great gig . Ritchie has put together a pretty good line up and the quality of playing was superb. Saw them last year at Birmingham and it is fantastic to hear both the Purple and Rainbow classics live – there was obviously a time when we all thought we would never hear them live again!
I suspect RB and his line up thoroughly enjoyed as did the audience and I only hope they will take to the road again in the near future.
