If you want to attend a classic rock show with an dedicated crowd, a good place to go is to a industrial town with a bulging demographic of white, middle-age blue collar workers. Such was Hamilton last night, at the sold out concert. An additional benefit was the venue, the Great Hall in Hamilton Place, featured good acoustics, cushioned seats and proper sight lines.
From where I was sitting, the organ was turned up a bit high in the mix and I could hardly hear Steve Morse at the beginning, however they appeared to work it out as the show progressed.
I was glad for the inclusion of a few tunes from the band’s earlier catalogue, Hard Lovin’ Man (from “In Rock”) and The Mule. Maybe I’m a Leo is a great blues/hard rock tune from Machine Head and one of my favorites so I was glad they performed it.
The two rather under-appreciated member of the band, in my view are Roger Glover, whose superb bass playing skills anchor the band, in addition to Ian Paice.
The crowd was respectful, but enthusiastic. It took a little while to get people going, but before long there was rapturous applause after each tune ended. By the encore everyone was on their feet.

It was a great venue, a great show, a great crowd. The total time was approx. 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Too bad they do not get much local promotion or press.
