The kids are all right
A collection of pictures taken by Torben Skøtt at the Vejlby Risskov Hallen, Aarhus, Denmark, on February 3, 1973 has been posted online. A very relaxed crowd at a rather intimate setting with Mark II in full flight. You can see it at torbenskott.dk.
Thanks to Yvonne for the info.
Great photos! Great Rainbow pics also!
December 31st, 2014 at 21:09Great photos! Saw them in June, 1973 in Chicago with ZZ Top & Billy Preston. My review is on the Highway Star webpage.
December 31st, 2014 at 21:10Now those are front row seats.
December 31st, 2014 at 23:03I thought these pics were from 1971. Can’t believe how close everyone in the audience is.
January 1st, 2015 at 01:20These are awesome! Must be nice to be ON the stage WITH the band?! Only a few of Blackers but a nice shot of the strat with the pointy headstock, probably a guitar demolition recycled part!
January 1st, 2015 at 01:27The Best music; in the rest…nothing.. Happy New Year! Constantza Ckunty
January 1st, 2015 at 05:15Very young kids. Aren’t they supposed to be at home with their parents!?
January 1st, 2015 at 09:59Now I understand what Ritchie means when he said to Ian Gillan:
“Don’t come to my part of the stage, or I smash you with my guitar!”
“I need my little space…!!!”
Have a nice Day and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
January 1st, 2015 at 10:51looks like a school assembly hall !!!!
January 1st, 2015 at 12:53They were the top and best band in the world at this time. Simply the greatest rock band of all time!!
January 1st, 2015 at 13:17A great year 1973 for Purple, great pictures/I do not see the picture Lars Ulrich 🙂 / DP goes to the top of the world,
and
then Gillan and Glover went …
“crime to the human race”
Happy New Year complete DP family and fans from around the world
January 1st, 2015 at 16:09Great pix!
January 1st, 2015 at 20:49I wonder how many of these kids are still around at DP gigs these days, old an wrinkly now, but still rocking with “our guys”, alike myself 🙂
A Happy New Year to y’all!
Those kids are right onstage….I think we could call Deep Purple Mark II a real “people’s band!” This was literally “audience participation.”
You couldn’t have this kind of scenario nowadays with all those “security” concerns and diva behavior of the artists.
Thumbs up to the Purps.

January 2nd, 2015 at 06:09Ah, those were the days, ‘back in the good old days’! When you could wander around anywhere at a gig, no bullshit security was needed, well, mostly not needed so to speak! No crap mobile phones being held up in front of you with some git wanking himself to someone else on the other end, wherever that person may be, most probably right next to them! Sheesh, you could even pass a drink or a joint to some band members at times, depending on the band & the individual of course! I wouldn’t try that with Blackers though, probably get your head kicked by one of those ‘platform’ shoes he used to wear! Oh well, best not get too nostalgic though, oh fuck it, why not!
January 2nd, 2015 at 06:38Happy New Year to all! Cheers.
Does anyone know If there is a bootleg of this show around?????
Someone in the audience had to have a tape rolling.
January 2nd, 2015 at 06:57Thanks for sharing, best MK11 pictures I have seen for a long time
January 3rd, 2015 at 01:41What was it about shows in Denmark back in the day? The March 1, ’72 Copenhagen, Denmark Tivoli Hall DVD has kids on the stage during the show. The ‘Danish Yodel Beware’ boot has a cover shot (maybe taken there?) of bouncers pushing the crowd off the stage who are right up against the band on stage as well! Now these great atmospheric shots of kids right in the band’s faces. Not much room for Ritchie to ‘do his thing’ and toss the strat around though! But at this point in his career he had mellowed his stage antics out significantly…unfortunately.
January 3rd, 2015 at 17:49Great!! Awesome pix!! Makes me travel in time!! Back to the incredible 70’s!! Purple back then were the biggest band in the world!! Deep Purple forever!!
January 3rd, 2015 at 18:56I like the picture of Gillan standing behind the amps while Blackmore is probably soloing.
January 4th, 2015 at 22:39I was there! Age of 16 at the time. Not a very good concert though. The vibes on stage were pretty bad and the crowd responded with quite a bit of discontent. Gillan and Blackmore both in a bad mood. I actually remember that Jon Lord left his organ and started playing air guitar in a very demonstrative manner right in front of – and face to – Blackmore. It didn’t help at lot! Danish Yodel in 1971 was much better. That was my first rock concert ever – and still my best:-) Looking forward to the new album. ‘Now what’ is great!
January 7th, 2015 at 19:10It makes you wonder when thinking of it from the bands perspective, how difficult it would be to play with all those fans clambering about all over the place! Sheeesh, talk about lucky or what! Imagine being that close to the stage in today’s ‘rock’ concert atmoss, especially if it was a Justin Bieber or One Direction gig! How exciting! Cheers.
January 8th, 2015 at 07:53Seriously though, the youtube clips I am listening to now, are reportedly from the same venue on 24 April 1971. Wonderful versions of Mandrake Root & Into the Fire & Wring That Neck. Great to hear. Cheers.
January 8th, 2015 at 08:09But this is better again, good quality clip indeed! Cheers.

Amazing shots – thanks for sharing. A very young audience. One of the pictures shows a kid with his fingers in his ears (DP_1973_020.html). In the same photo you can spot at least 5 photo camera’s in the audience!
February 8th, 2015 at 21:43Smart kids. Must love the seventies – the front row is basically very much on-stage, touching the drum set and Jon’s Hammond… cheers
