On the banks of river Uzh
A pretty unique monument to Jon Lord was unveiled on November 27 in Ukranian city of Uzhhorod. A pint-sized Jon is sitting on the railing of a riverside promenade and contemplating the view.
The idea of the monument came to a couple of locals two years ago. They started collecting the money in empty beer cans strategically placed in local pubs. Two years and 16 kilograms of coins later, here he is, in all his glory:
Jon’s sculpture joins a number of other quirky miniatures installed in the city ranging from 19th century Hungarian musician Ferenc Liszt, to the good soldier Švejk, to RMS Carpathia.

Have not seen a post for this yet but…. Happy Birthday Roger!!!
December 1st, 2014 at 00:59Weird, but Ok. But I think a more suitable monument should be dedicated to Jon. His playing with Deep Purple and his influence in rock was, well, larger than life.

December 1st, 2014 at 19:48Having just spent a month in the region (Chernivtsi, a really lovely town, I highly recommend it, try to visit it at the same time!) I was really happy to read about this mini-tribute to Jon Lord. Thank you to “a couple of locals”.
