Coronation Street Concerto
Concerto for Group and Orchestra got a name check in an episode of a British soap opera Coronation Street that aired on November 11:
Darker than Blue has the backstory including interview with the writer
Thanks to Nigel Young for the clip.
More than a namecheck, it was quite long and a good description I thought.

I agree with you on that one, cracking picture painted by Roy about watching it as a child
Didn’t think they had colour tv’s up here in those days though to notice the colour of Paicys shirt 🙂
I should be one of those moaners who writes into points of view now 🙂

November 25th, 2013 at 15:46I felt exactly the same when I was a wee bit teenager and heard “Concerto ,,” for the first time.
November 27th, 2013 at 19:44A great piece!
I ll always remember my first time with the Concerto.
I was about 13 and had grown into a complete Purple nut.
Went to this shop and asked to putt the needle on.
So he did, and jumped and skipped a little piece every time.
WTF?!
Where is the rock?!
He managed to find just the classical stuff, hahaha
Did leave it alone because of that, years later I got back to it and loved it ever since.
December 14th, 2013 at 20:30PP @11,
I had a similar experience except I actually bought the 8-Track (still have it) in 1973 when I was 17 when I too began my search for all things Purple and plugged it in to my car player. I sat in that parking lot and listened to it for about 2 minutes, clicking through the 4 tracks. I pulled it out and through it in the back seat and never listened to it until a few years later when I started reading stuff about it and then finding out that they had left off their opening live Purple stuff (Hush, Wring that Neck and Child in Time), which showed up later on in a separate package (New, Live and Rare). I became curious and dug it out and forced myself to take a listen to it. I found myself enthralled and loved it. Then when the Video and later the DVD was released I was really disappointed to find they didn’t include the opening live Purple tracks. To this day I am still pissed that there no video of that. Does anybody know why they didn’t video that and if they did, why it has never surfaced?
