Yet another box set
Not to be outdone by boutique labels, Warner will be releasing in the US its own box set, via Rhino records. The 10-CD set is titled The Complete Albums: 1970-1976 and contains all studio albums from In Rock to Come Taste the Band, plus Concerto for Group and Orchestra, Made in Japan and Made in Europe. There is no word on bonus tracks (if any) or the (re)mastering job, which makes us believe it is safe to assume that this is just a repackaging job. The box set is due on October 8.

As far as I can see “The Complete Albums” are at least 3 previous albums short from being – complete!

September 1st, 2013 at 02:35EMI records where you had a choice of 5 in each box, can’t recall if they were remastered or just for a quick cash grab, but unfortunately each album’s inner sleeve were very very light on details
just the usual track listing and no liner notes all in all i think they were around $9, so you can imagine how good the packaging was!! I have noticed recently that a number of record labels are now re-releasing their back catalogue of popular artisits and “boxing” them in. ZZ Top, Van Halen, The Eagles, and now Deep Purple to name just a few, and it would not surprise me if the trend continues. It’s up to the individual, but i really enjoyed the anniversary editions of some of the above albums, as to me they were more comprehensive.
Santa is going to need a really big stocking this xmas…………& there will be more to follow from the record companies of other artists no doubt! Cha-ching!

At Wacken-festival this year a young man from the audience was asked, which bands he likes to see. He answered, his father told him to listen to Deep Purple…

Great point. Even though I found myself asking ‘why???’, your answer is right on. I concur with your point being one of those older fans and collectors (57). How can you go wrong by giving this box set to a younger family member or friend who needs to be exposed to the greatest rock band in the world?

Thanks, Tracy! We don’t stop to produce new humans and some of them, not all (sad but true) will discover the “real” music.
The box-fever-outputs are made for collectors and younger people… your James Bond-Movie-DVD/Bluray-Box-Set is running out of date every two or three years, when a new Bond-movie is produced.

September 10th, 2013 at 08:48Why indeed? Well I’m a massive fan of Rainbow, Whitesnake, Gillan etc and have had a mild passing interest in Deep Purple but never bothered to hunt down all the albums. So for a lazy $60 I can get all the prime time stuff in one hit and investigate further from there. For me this is fantastic.
