And another thing I won’t discuss…
As it’s becoming a good tradition, Ian Gillan was interviewed by NevexTV in St.Petersburg, and it pretty much turned into his rant about freedom of speech, the EU, future of our species, rabbis and vicars, cars and trains, age and death… and a little about music:
Thanks to Tatiana Marshanova for the info.
Agree whole heartedly with his thoughts on the eu, it’s a disaster that we in the UK could do well without.
November 2nd, 2012 at 19:26First…I think Gillan came off being somewhat drunk..he picks it up as it moves along though. But really, as much as I love this bands and its members, there’s no way they’ll be on the road more than a year or two from now. I hope a good producer like Ezrin helped the band come alive and make a really strong record to finish off their career, and I think so!
November 2nd, 2012 at 21:36Gillan beside of being on of the best musicians/singer/lyricist,he is on of the most articulate people and a very sharp and opinionated person in a good way .
November 2nd, 2012 at 22:17Haven’t listened to it yet, but what I TRULY love in Ian’s interviews, is when he’s discussing ‘non traditional’ things, like human nature, religion, humanity, life etc… That’s why he’s not only my favorite rock singer, but a philosopher and thinker. His thoughts touched me so much and determined my view of life, view of human beings… He, as a human himself, is a HUGE influence on me.
November 2nd, 2012 at 23:04Only rock and roll will save us.
November 2nd, 2012 at 23:12Great interview.
November 3rd, 2012 at 01:06I agree with everything Ian said.
November 3rd, 2012 at 01:11Sadly, an awful lot of truth in what he says….I whole-heartedly agree, the Planet has had enough of us.
November 3rd, 2012 at 05:07An interesting interview, but I.G. is a only a musician and not a politician …
Everybody knows, that we all are very very little parts of the whole thing / the big clockwork of our country and WE NEVER change it here in Europe or wherever in this bad world …
Because of that, I (yes I) believe in the coming back of Jesus Christ.
So who wan´t to know his (I.G.) meaning ?
Don´t talk – only play / sing for us 🙂 (hopefully new songs)

November 3rd, 2012 at 09:33Mary Long all over again.. interesting thoughts from Ian.
November 3rd, 2012 at 09:38I hope not, but maybe alzheimer’s creeping in. My grandfather was starting to talk like that before we sent him away.
November 3rd, 2012 at 11:52It always causes a fight VAVOOOOOOOM!
November 3rd, 2012 at 14:39I know what never ever will change!!
The setlist of Deep Purple!! It is the same since a lot of Years!!!
November 3rd, 2012 at 15:57Now, if Gillan and Glover can channel some of that political energy and activism into their song lyrics (i.e., Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye) we might see a needed resurgence of the rock ‘n roll protest song. Whenever rock music takes a stand or makes a point it is at its most powerful and lasting.
November 3rd, 2012 at 17:33I notice on the DP facebooksite, there will be 10 concerts released from the 70’s. Any info on this?
November 4th, 2012 at 18:08I agree with Gillan, nowdays there´s so many things you´re not allow to talk about or have an opinion about, if you do, the police come knocking on your door. The political correctness is making it very hard to breath. Its scarry, and whats more scarry is that not too many seems to bother, and whats even more scarry is that its the same in Sweden…
November 4th, 2012 at 20:08@No Politician? = Poli-richen with something to say either way! Express no concern, get no return. Look into the future and relate, it’s not about him, us or now, it’s about others and generations to come!
November 5th, 2012 at 09:33Well said, George! I love reading his stuff on gillan.com and did show it to some people who did not even know who the man is – and they were pretty impressed about his wit and wisdom. Just like me.
November 5th, 2012 at 09:44You cant argue with him. A very interesting speaker is our Mr Gillan. Big G for PM!
November 5th, 2012 at 10:26Ian is an uncommon commodity in rock n roll. He is both intelligent and erudite, a real thinking man with plenty to talk about besides rock n roll. He is also very much a humanist and takes the viewpoint of the common man. we are lucky to have his Voice’s in our lives.
I’m surprised that people think he sounds drunk, or is on the verge of Alzheimers? That level of intellect couldn’t function as articulatly if that were the case…
Long live DP
November 5th, 2012 at 12:20Well said to all of that, Ian!
November 5th, 2012 at 21:51Great to see Gillan doing what any good song writer, vocalist, front man should be good at…..expressing some basic common sense in a ‘silver tongued’ way. When Purple is done, I look forward to seeing and hearing more of this ‘cunning linguist’ speaking his thoughts…..
Gillan, Gillan, Gillan…..

November 7th, 2012 at 09:36hmmm… I worry about this.
On the one hand, it’s grea to see him speaking his mind publicly. I’m all for that. Despite what the layman would probably think, I’m pretty sure someone like IG would be very socially aware.
On the other hand, is he really worrying about a lack of freedom of speech aka the idiots Mary Long tells us about, or has he just gone conservative (lower case ‘c’!) in his old age? Not so much what he says here – everything he says is true, but the years and years of banging on about the EU smells a bit Daily Mail. I hope not. He’s right – it’s not run well and *occasionally* leads to a lack of democracy. But there’s a huge difference between acknowledging it’s faults and believing all the nonsense we in the UK get told by the media.
One of the best bands of all time has an awesome album named because they wrongly believed a media story. A little bit of research would have proved it not to be true, and yet they ended up looking silly.
November 10th, 2012 at 13:27Highly aware, intelligent, widely travelled, and a great artist – but not educated. Many of his opinions in this interview include factual inaccuracies, logical fallacies, false equivalencies, and attribution of motivation to others.
EFTA was formed in 1960 for those European countries that did not wish to join the EU. It still exists.
November 12th, 2012 at 02:27It would be very interesting to have a beer with him and just talk the entire evening!
November 12th, 2012 at 23:10I’d love to be there when you said that to his face!!
November 13th, 2012 at 17:07@ 28
I m not sure what you are trying to say, but……
I know for sure ” intimidation” is not the same as having the upperhand.
