As it’s becoming a good tradition, Ian Gillan was interviewed by NevexTV in St.Petersburg, and it pretty much turned into his rant about freedom of speech, the EU, future of our species, rabbis and vicars, cars and trains, age and death… and a little about music:

Agree whole heartedly with his thoughts on the eu, it’s a disaster that we in the UK could do well without.
November 2nd, 2012 at 19:26First…I think Gillan came off being somewhat drunk..he picks it up as it moves along though. But really, as much as I love this bands and its members, there’s no way they’ll be on the road more than a year or two from now. I hope a good producer like Ezrin helped the band come alive and make a really strong record to finish off their career, and I think so!

November 2nd, 2012 at 22:17Haven’t listened to it yet, but what I TRULY love in Ian’s interviews, is when he’s discussing ‘non traditional’ things, like human nature, religion, humanity, life etc… That’s why he’s not only my favorite rock singer, but a philosopher and thinker. His thoughts touched me so much and determined my view of life, view of human beings… He, as a human himself, is a HUGE influence on me.

Whenever rock music takes a stand or makes a point it is at its most powerful and lasting.

The political correctness is making it very hard to breath. Its scarry, and whats more scarry is that not too many seems to bother, and whats even more scarry is that its the same in Sweden…

November 5th, 2012 at 10:26Ian is an uncommon commodity in rock n roll. He is both intelligent and erudite, a real thinking man with plenty to talk about besides rock n roll. He is also very much a humanist and takes the viewpoint of the common man. we are lucky to have his Voice’s in our lives.
I’m surprised that people think he sounds drunk, or is on the verge of Alzheimers? That level of intellect couldn’t function as articulatly if that were the case…

On the one hand, it’s grea to see him speaking his mind publicly. I’m all for that. Despite what the layman would probably think, I’m pretty sure someone like IG would be very socially aware.
On the other hand, is he really worrying about a lack of freedom of speech aka the idiots Mary Long tells us about, or has he just gone conservative (lower case ‘c’!) in his old age? Not so much what he says here – everything he says is true, but the years and years of banging on about the EU smells a bit Daily Mail. I hope not. He’s right – it’s not run well and *occasionally* leads to a lack of democracy. But there’s a huge difference between acknowledging it’s faults and believing all the nonsense we in the UK get told by the media.
One of the best bands of all time has an awesome album named because they wrongly believed a media story. A little bit of research would have proved it not to be true, and yet they ended up looking silly.
