“Concerto For Group And Orchestra” to be released on September 28
On September 28th. 2012, earMUSIC releases the studio recording of Jon Lord’s “Concerto For Group And Orchestra”
“Over these last years since leaving Deep Purple, I’ve played it over 30 times with different orchestras and conductors all over the world, and, of course, in 2000 I did it well over 30 times with Purple on the Concerto tour, so I’ve been honing the piece live on stage, and I’ve had the opportunity to change things in the score that weren’t sounding quite right. It is therefore a marvellous and exciting prospect to have the definitive recording of the definitive version of the score.” (Jon Lord May 2012)
Jon Lord recorded the rhythm section – Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd, Madonna) & Brett Morgan (Jon Anderson, Sting) and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (with whom Jon had recorded twice before) in June 2011 in Liverpool – conducted by Paul Mann. The production then moved to Abbey Road Studios in London to record Iron Maiden‘s Bruce Dickinson (on vocals with Steve Balsamo and Kasia Laska) and Joe Bonamassa, Darin Vasilev and Steve Morse on guitars.
Happily, Jon got to hear and approve the final mixes a few weeks before he passed away.
Unauthorized copying, while sometimes necessary, is never as good as the real thing
This no doubt will be a brilliant swan song for the great man Jon Lord, his music will live in our hearts forever.

August 27th, 2012 at 22:55I’m happy that Jon had the privilege to finish his contribution to his most important musical piece. It’s so sad that he can’t see it’s release anymore – exactly 43 years after the debut performance – and experience the response. His death adds another component to the relevance of the Concerto.

August 28th, 2012 at 10:53Yeah, when you listen to Jon´s classical work (not only “Concerto”) and deep Purple live from the 70:s and 80:s it dawns on you
August 28th, 2012 at 18:04that it was not only “the man in black” who made Purple and the Purple sound so great, it was Jon Lord and his organ with his classical “comments” in
many of the songs, especially live… Yes, he was and will always be The man behind that special sound in Purple (together with Blackmore, of course)
When its released Im gonna get myself “A place in line” to buy it…
Way to go JON! You may have left the building, but what you have left behind is truly a gift that all of us here will cherish. Unfortunately, as with the Gary Moore legacy I find myself quite choked up when I listen to the music. This will prove to follow that suit. “Nothings the Same Without You”….

August 30th, 2012 at 16:02@ 9 Disapointed that it may not have a blue ray release , and i agree with you on the loss of gary moore this year, he with his work with ” Thin Lizzy” and also his solo albums in which he had big influence of purple, with jon lord, ian paice @ glenn hughes on his albums , we lost two truly remarkable musicians and equally genuine human beings…….R.I.P.

September 1st, 2012 at 13:51Mr. Lord rules!!! He was great. And I think this “score” will be great. I still remember his “Concerto tour”, I had the chance to listen to it live twice in my country. Great experience… great music… great performers. Hope to get this album soon.

September 4th, 2012 at 16:31Jon was one incredibly funny guy and way above average on Keyboards. I consider him very much like Steve Irwin was to animal conservation. The word is EAR REPLACEABLE. Whoops thats 2 words. Long live rock and roll, god save the queen, long live Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, John Lennon, Duane Allman and last but not least long live Jon Lord. Might even buy this record or at the very least rent it from the library and not return it
