Purple family in Fireworks Magazine

The Fireworks Magazine features several members of the family in Issue 53 (out now).

In the five page spread, Ritchie and Candice discuss their new DVD A Knight In York, the supernatural, the origins of Blackmore’s Night, some of Ritchie’s favourite practical jokes and, for the first time, reveal the true reason for Rainbow splitting up.

I loved the DVD Ritchie, not only is it a really good show, but I was there in person when you filmed it so it brought back great memories. I thought it was absolutely superb. Was it one of the best shows of the tour?

R: I think it was a good, average show – considering that whenever you make plans to record a show something invariably goes wrong and it turns into a disaster. I was pretty happy with how we played. There were a few mistakes, but that is normal. I was quite pleased with it. The night before, two nights before, we were in the most wonderful castle in Germany but it rained. That was originally where we planned to record it, so we would have the video of the castle, but it’s a good job we changed our minds the week before. We were having problems with the promoter, it started a couple of months before we did a show in Germany. We saw the ticket prices and we said it was too much money for people to pay. We complained about the prices being too high and that led to all sorts of confusion and people getting annoyed, saying it was a typical price. We said we weren’t going to play for that, so in the end things started getting given away at the show like medallions and merchandise. So planning to record there and then having things like that, we said “You know what? We’ll do it in England.”

Also on page 80 of the magazine are interviews with Ian Gillan, who talks about the Who Cares album with Tony Iommi, and a chat with Nick Simper, who talks about Nasty Habits.

Ritchie talk about getting back to deep purple, then i will be interested. I don’t need to here more about castles and ghosts, im sure most people will agree.

Buttocks, you are obviously interested enough to make your negative comment! If you were not interested at all, then you would not even look at it, let alone comment on it! It really makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

    @buttockss

Totally agree with you mate. Although it’s very unlikely to see him back in Purple without Jon to convince him. At least a news of Ritchie forming some kind of new Rainbow line up, that would the a must read article !

The reason for Rainbow’s split? Deep Purple reunion and making lots of ca$$$$h!!! In Blackmore’s very own words “cold hard cash”. No mistakes, Perfect Strangers is a superb album, and the tour was so bloody lucrative!!!!

    Jack says:

Ritchie should get rid of the hurdy gurdy rubbish and reform Rainbow again!!!! Stranger in us all is a great album!!! Bring Doogie back!!!

I’ll save the 5 bucks or so it would cost for the magazine and remember Mr B’s contributions to Rainbow and Deep Purple. Those to me are priceless and I have no interest in anything post DP although I do appreciate that he is following his passion.

Sad to hear Candice bitch about how Rainbow folded in 1997. I know there are lots of theories around this but who really cares? Ritchie seems to be enjoying his non-rock music. Hopefully they will release the songs they chopped off the new live DVD. Blackers is still an otherworldly talent no matter what genre of music he plays on the guitar.

We can still get a powerfull Rainbow again. Purple – yes as a kind of tribute to Jon Lord. With all the Mrk members joining. That would be the perfekt way to say thanks to Jon for everything he has done to our lifes. And that is a LOT!!!

Yes, we’d all like to see Rainbow agin… but it’s not going tp happen. Ritchie is clearly happy doing what he’s doing. I’ve seen Blackmore’s Night countless times. They are fantastic, it is a great evening out and Ritchie is still playing as well as ever… the difference is he now has a smile on his face. Why would he want to go backwards?

I can point out it out a million times, but appearantly it makes no impact.
Or at best a slight one?

Ritchie smiled countless times on stage during both DP and Rainbow.

The same exaggeration of a media image can be seen applied to BN. He does NOT smile all the time, and yes he has had many off – nights on stage with them as well.

Deep Purple braucht einen neuen Sänger. Habe mir gerade Live in Montreaux 2011 angehört. Gillan war mal einer der besten Rocksännger, aber die Zeit ist vorbei, er kann nicht mehr singen. Als neuen Sänger würde ich Doogie White vorschlagen

I would have loved to see Deep Purple mark 2 get back together and have done the super bowl halftime show instead of the slop the nfl has has put on like madonna prince or the black eyed peas. I mean no personal disrespect to those bands but they just do not compare to Deep Purple. No musical artist does. That being said my dream of them getting back together now is impossible because Jon lord has passed away. Why Jon was not mentioned at the 2012 london olympic games is a mystery itself. I would love to see rainbow back together but I doubt it will never happen. Just think if music was an olympic event just how many gold metals Deep Purple would have won. Jon Lord RIP. Deep Purple fan forever. frank miller

@ 13 As i myself, was watching the olymics, i was thinking the same thing, no mention of jon lord. To me and ‘martin popoff’ i believe Deep Purple to be the royal band of england. As to the super bowl in the states it’s not about musical talent, it’s about the ‘Wow’ effect, tis a shame but just look at the rock ‘n’ roll hall of shame.

What’s the new reason for Rainbow disbanding?

Not like he’s never expressed anything on the subject. Man these claims lately by sources, really is rather funny.
