Nick Simper interview

Nick Simper Vienna09 by Ralph Grille 6Metal Shock has an interview with a fairly rare guest in the press — Nick Simper. He talks about the good old days, Screaming Lord Sutch, Purple, his collaboration with Nasty Habits, and his plans:

Even thought it was now so long ago, you incorporate Deep Purple tracks in your sets, do the songs hold a special place in your heart?

The main reason for playing the purple tracks was to present these tunes to new audiences. The majority of the MK1 songs had never been played live since 1969, and of course some of them, particularly the ones that I had a hand in composing, were special to me. It is amazing to see the reaction to these tunes by young and old who come to our shows. The fact that the mk1 albums still sell well proves that they have stood the test of time!

Those MKI albums certainly have stood the test of time!! Certainly better than the recent Purple CD’s.

The mk I albums are just as important as any others in my view. I love all three, such great music from the new band called deep purple.
Nick Simper and Rod Evans are most definitely part of deep purple history!

MK I put out some incredible music, some of it WAY ahead of its time. Tunes like Chasing Shadows, The Shield, Mandrake and Wring That Neck……….Wow….. still in my shuffle today 🙂

@1 -Perhaps that is because NOTHING is musically built to last anymore. There is no ‘quick money’ in that! Music 101 -over!

    MacGregor says:

Yes, I agree totally, MK 1 were a wonderful band. so many great tunes that in many ways were replicated later in MK 2.
I was defending the MK 1 lineup not long ago here at a different posting. A critical part of Deep Purple’s history, that is why Hush is still performed in concert to this day, no doubt! Cheers!

I often notice selfproclaimed REAL DP fans saying that they are dismissing those first 3 albums.

Agreed, WDTWA is being dismissed by the band as well.

    WHO GIVES A DAMN?!

Those albums are great and I must played them thousands of times, and probably will continue to do so.

A mk I reunion would be awesome. Playing smaller venues, more intimate.

Tracy (Zero the Hero) Heyder says:

    @10

Can’t happen now with the passing of Jon Lord. As a matter of fact, ALL prior reunions are now impossible. I guess there will be a lot less correspondence here now that the wishing well for line-ups of old has run dry for the wishers…..

    Long Live Deep Purple MK8

    Cheers?
