A Knight In York
Blackmore’s Night will release a new live album called A Knight in York recorded last Fall at the Opera House in York, England. Darker Than Blue reports that the album will be available in several formats: DVD, blue ray, CD, and triple vinyl. European release date has been set for June 29 via Sony/Ariola.
Unauthorized copying, while sometimes necessary, is never as good as the real thing

May 16th, 2012 at 09:33Probabaly not much different to ‘Paris Moon’ a few years back. I like Blackmore’s work but I feel he needs to up the angst a little. The songwriting/style has become very formulaic.

May 17th, 2012 at 09:30I can understand why a Deep Purple or Rainbow fan wouldn’t like Blackmore’s Night, especially a non-musician. In Blackmore’s Night Ritchie plays several stringed instruments from the distant past, that have vastly different tunings….the ultimate challenge for a guitarist of Ritchie’s stature. The complexity of the chord changes with different tunings should be appreciated by his musician fan base IMO.

Most people don’t know that he directly makes Night’s vocal melodies
Night said, “When he sings, he sings only for me, in private”.
As a result, his musical approach shifted to vocalist-centered sounds.
It’s virtually Rainbow’s soft rock version.
Blackmore was essentially studio session musician from early 1960’s The Outlaws, Heinz, Glenda Collins.
Rainbow’s music was partly inspired by Baroque music since Blackmore started playing cello to help him construct interesting chord progressions in private time

He wrote most Rainbow’s riff on the cello.

I presume your closing remark was referring to me. Don’t know how I came to mind with your response to Little A.. @2. I have been a fan of Blackmore’s since 1969 when I first heard and noticed ‘Hush’ on the radio when I was 13 years old. Deep Purple is the only band I actually knew all the names of due to admiring their musicianship. Aside from Jimi Hendrix, I didn’t know who the guitarist was in any of the popular bands back then. Same with drummers, bass, keys and vocals. At that age it hadn’t yet become important to me, until Deep Purple peaked my interest…..”Who are these guys???”.
I still to this day find Blackmore’s playing to be set far apart from any other and even while doing the Lute Band thing with Blackmore’s Night, I enjoy his playing and have purchased all of their CDs and DVDs. I will be buying this one as well. I have seen them twice in concert. Both times I had to drive over 6 hours to get there. YOU? So, next time you pull a name out of your big A.. to rag on, make it a name with relevance to your point.

@ 14, Ur feathers are ruffled today? I have been totally nuetral in my opinion of the band and its members,both past and present. You like to refer some of us as “blackmorons” time and time again. If you are a fan as you say, you have a warped way of showing it. I feel bad you had to drive 6 hours to see a show I’m sure was memorable, but we have no control over logistics. If you feel Blackmore is superior to any other, maybe don’t hack on his choices so much. What he does and did makes him who he is. Enough said on this topic. Cheers Zero!!

May 27th, 2012 at 01:06As mentioned in another post related to the release I feel this DVD will be a disappointment as there are at least 6 songs omitted including Soldier Of Fortune. I was at the gig and it was excellent but 10 songs from the last 2 albums out of a total 14 songs on the actual DVD / CD..why condense and edit it down so much and with no variety? Well at least I have the memories of the concert. Ritchie still rocks though but I have always felt that he has in some ways been constrained and controlled to a certain degree by management! ( in Blackmore’s Night ). A pity

As for Ritchie and the cello, I would like to keep actual history intact by pointing out that he only wrote 7 Rainbow riffs on the cello. It was the entire Rising album, nothing more has been evidenced by his published word on that.
