Flying Colors announce tour dates
Flying Colors, the “supergroup” with Steve Morse, Dave LaRue and Mike Portnoy, have announced a string of tour dates in September: two dates in the U.S. (one in California and one in New York City), followed by another eleven in Europe. Support for the European dates is a Swedish prog band Beardfish. Tickets for most of the shows just went on sale. More details in our calendar.
Thanks to Daniel Bengtsson for the info.
I hope they do more than just two shows in the states. I have the FC CD…it’s a good collaboration among some very talented musicians…
May 6th, 2012 at 03:59Maybe FC won’t be as long a project as some people think. Morse posted this on Facebook yesterday;
“Well, everybody, we finally did find some dates to do a Flying Colors
May 6th, 2012 at 08:38Tour! We’re starting in L.A. (where my son’s band ‘New World Martyr’
will open), then right over to New York City, then straight to Europe
for a couple of weeks. This may be the only chance to see Flying
Colors, so find an excuse to travel if you are not near us!”
With Purple putting out a new and most likely final album, they will tour it heavily. There won’t be much time for Flying Colors. Steve should open Purple shows with Flying Colors as the opening act. Then he could promote both….
Cheers
May 6th, 2012 at 13:47Indeed a very very talented bunch of guys with a distinctive taste and actually there’s a very creative thing going on. I didn’t pay much attention till recently. But I’ve to say that the singing, although it’s done fairly well, isn’t my cup of tea – the bass playing on the other hand totally is and I like the sound of those Music Man (Stingray) bass guitars. Cool and interesting side project. Thumbs up.
May 6th, 2012 at 14:07What a surprise! Beardfish is the amazing band – I’m sure you will love it. Will do my best to be there.
May 6th, 2012 at 18:08I never thought it would happen but…….
I m probably saving my money to see FC live, if they come close enough, instead of DP.
Then again, the so called LAST HURRAH might tempt me if the setlist and new album are exiting(If that is still possible : ( …. )enough.
I skipped Michael Schenker. Cant stand Doogies Biff Bifford(Or what whas the guy from SAXON called..?)voice.
Judging from the YouTubes ; The band rocks in a excellent way regarding the instrumental side of things.
So maybe I ll try to see Tilburg anyway(….)
Right now I m suffering from sinesitus again, big pain impulses on my skull and in the ear, so that is not really a good start.
Blackmores Night in Nijmeegen then….
I saw the old man around 2003, I think, and he is getting on in years.
So I thought……
But hell, the tickets are 50 Euro´s!!!
Can someone tell me if it is true that the setlist might be based around Candy´s soloalbum, that would be uhhhhhhh……….not tempting.
It is gonna be a cheap year perhaps.
I d love to see Y and T in october.
Not sure, only Meniketti as an original member now.
And playing the worst songs of FACEMELTER does not help.
I m already dearly missing the well beloved Phil Kennemore on bass, a better setlist might help.
May 6th, 2012 at 22:32TWO US dates? Sounds like Glenn Hughes tour manager is in charge.
May 7th, 2012 at 09:31PP:
FYI for ya…Schenker appears on the latest 2 episodes of ‘That Metal Show’. He is the guest guitar player on last weeks episode and the actual interview guest on this weeks episode. Man he looks frail. Makes Gillan look like the Hulk.
Cheers
May 8th, 2012 at 13:15Something with that video, could not open it.
Thanx anyway.
Here just 1 YT from yesterdays gig in Belgium.
Sounds a bit tame to me and Doogie gives a weak performance.
I was already expecting that, stayed home.

May 9th, 2012 at 12:05@8 Tracy,
I saw him at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park back in March. That was the first thing I thought when he walked on stage. Something is amiss. Hopefully it’s just diet and no beer. He was the usual great that night….
Peace,
Ted
May 9th, 2012 at 13:34Flying Colors are a amazing band. As #3 points out Steve will not have time to promote this Album. I suggest FC pull a ChickenFoot. They replaced Chad Smith when he had to tour with the RHCP. Replace Steve with Joe Satriani. That is not a bad choice. Why not? I would go. Joe Satriani is the only person who could pull it off.
May 9th, 2012 at 15:28As good as they are, great music don’t make a live act, great performers do.
May 9th, 2012 at 20:08In DUTCH magazine IO Pages this month an coverstory/article on FC.
Interviewed : Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy.
CD is already hailed as CD of the year by one of the IO crew..
May 11th, 2012 at 00:29Not sure what your point is here LRT. Both the music and the performer make a good live act. Well Played Great Music is the key though.
RF @11,
Steve Vai would be all over it as far as I’m concerned, though I can’t say actually since I haven’t heard FC yet. Just a general opinion based on Vai’s technical ability…as with Satch.
Cheers
May 11th, 2012 at 03:21Great! 3 times Steve Morse in just 6 month in Germany! See him with G3!
May 13th, 2012 at 19:47@Tracy -what are you waiting for, Christmas or something? But then who knows, you might not rave about FC. I mean even sometimes I want to put on Yes instead, and even some other bands, but I like it after all this time and a lot of repeats. I would like to see where they can take it, but if this is all, it’s better than nothing.
May 16th, 2012 at 19:14Actually Larry, I’ve been slacking lately on my music listening and aquiring. I’m in a kind of ‘hunting’ phase right now. Will get to it eventually. Hunting Turkeys, squirrels and getting my boat ready for Summer.
Cheers
May 17th, 2012 at 03:41Who needs Tracy’s approval when they have mine? : )
June 19th, 2012 at 08:39Btw, I found this.
Wondering if this gave them an idea……promotionwise that is, ahem….

July 7th, 2012 at 09:02Both the Flying Colors album and the tour have been a huge success!! And there definitely is talk about doing more, from the Flying Colors camp themselves (see their Facebook profile). No idea when they will be able to find a window for more shows, but it’s for certain that they’re not done yet! Tracy, great idea about FC opening for Purple, that would be totally awesome!!
