Paice in Istanbul
Ian Paice will be in Istanbul this Saturday, April 14, to be on the jury for the Vodafone Freezone 15th High School Music Competition. His video announcement is posted here. If we understand it correctly, you should be able to watch the proceeding on the competition’s Facebook page.
Thanks to Tarik Burcoglu for the info.
We know, DP is loved in Europe, Turkey, Japan and Russia, and opposite of that in USA and number of “big” mainstream media.
April 11th, 2012 at 21:59Just found out that Bob Ezrin will produce the next DP studio album: http://heavyrocktheplaylist.blogspot.com/2012/04/deep-purple-bob-ezrin-to-produce-next.html

This is amazing news. As I have been saying here, this next (most likely last) Purple album needs to be something special and collaborating with the Master…Bob (Alice Cooper) Ezrin is a good start towards something special. Looks like this next record is ‘Serious’ business. I AM SO PUMPED READING THIS NEWS!!!!! “Welcome to My Rapture”
Cheers
April 13th, 2012 at 14:13After I finished typing @3 it truly sunk in as to the magnitude of this news regarding Bob ‘friggin’ Ezrin doing the next Purple Album. His accreditation is impeccable.
The impact he has had on musician’s success and his ability to turn a stinky dull brown turd into a sweet smelling shiny gold bar is well documented. KISS- Destroyer, Alice Cooper- Billion Dollar Babies, Pink Floyd- Division Bell just a couple. Alice Cooper alone is pure evidence to this. Ezrin not only produced, but also contributed in a lot of the writing with most of Alice’s albums. Plus he has a great vision regarding the total package…..Songs, Albums, PROMOTION. This is fantastic news and deserves a new subject here as an announcement. I have been advocating for Purple to take the bull by the horns and seriously address their efforts and ability by combining a top notch production team to bring it all out to the forefront in full force. EZRIN can do it. I hope he takes charge and directs this unbelievably talented bunch toward something that they truly deserve. PROPER PROMOTION, EXPOSURE and PRODUCTION. It’s About TIME!!!! “YEEEEEOOOOOOOOUUUUWWWWWW!!!!! I THAAAAAAANK YOOOOOOUUUUUU!!!”
Cheers
April 13th, 2012 at 18:36So that means they have attracted an outside writer.
Should I say finally?!
I used to think it was a no go area related to INTEGRITY if great bands could not pull off the writing anymore and used help from outside.
But, maybe sometimes it is better than paining themselves ansd still come out with a stinker.
The curiosity bar has been raised a few points now.
Then again…….
We’ll see.
April 13th, 2012 at 21:03@5: Writer? They say they have hired a producer, not a writer.
April 14th, 2012 at 07:13Maybe……
I dont know the value of it but Tracy said Ezrin might(…) be able to ad his writingskills into thye mix.
If that would be so, I d not know if thats a plus or not.
April 14th, 2012 at 10:24Svante and PP,
I just brought up the fact that Ezrin is a total package producer. I’m not saying he will be doing any of the writing for Purple, but there is nothing wrong with some outside input while in the process. I don’t think Purple has run out of ideas. On the contrary. Each of the last 4 albums are quite different and varied in approach and style. ROTD is a complex and well written and structured offering. Ezrin could have made it a Masterpiece.
That being said on a different note, on the latest episode of ‘That Metal Show’, Alice Cooper is the guest and the topic of ‘Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’ came up (which he was finally inducted into). He made the statement about how wrong it is how they have passed over so many deserving artists and inducted so many that shouldn’t have been. He also stated flat out that it is ‘criminal’ that Deep Purple isn’t in yet. The rest of the cast made it clear that he was right on regarding. Now that his cohort in crime ‘Bob Ezrin’ is on board with Purple and the 40th Anniversary of ‘Machinehead’ is being promoted and the fact that Ezrin is so ‘well connected’ in the business, I believe Purple is about to be brought into the forefront with the New Record, and may finally get the R&RHOF nod.
Cheers
April 14th, 2012 at 15:20Here, in the right section, you can find the list of band produced by Bob Ezrin:

April 14th, 2012 at 16:06@5, it wouldn’t be the first time Purple have ‘attracted an outside writer’, off the top of my head ‘Hey Joe’, ‘We can work it out’, and ‘Help’ all featured on early albums, ‘Speed King’ was more or less a patische of rock ‘n’ roll lyrics, I could be pedantic and mention ‘Difficult to cure’ (OK, it was on a Rainbow album but it did feature quite extensively in DP set lists in the 80s and 90s, Bob Ezrin is a top producer, he may or may not take a Jim Steinman/Mutt Lange approach and have a noticeable contribution or he may take a Martin Birch approach and leave it to the band, personally, well, it’s been so long since the last album and the band have spent so long on tour, whatever comes out of the studio will hopefully be worth the wait.
April 15th, 2012 at 10:57I though we had gotten over that RROF isssue by now?
April 15th, 2012 at 22:00I wish DP kidnapped Birch for a a week or 2.
Prepare the whole shit and get it recorded properly.
April 17th, 2012 at 13:51PP@11…
“We” are over the RRHOF issue. It’s just that it came up in a resent airing of “That Metal Show” featuring Alice Cooper whom brought it up, plus HIS Producer, Bob Ezrin is on board now with Purple. I’d say it ties in pretty well. There now, the dots are all connected for you.
Cheers
April 17th, 2012 at 18:39that is great news, hopefully the results will be positive. The “experiment “with Bradford as a producer didn’t work out,I don’t think he really understood or captured their sound, therefore ROFTD sound is a little bit flat and leaves me wanting for more.
