JL for BBC Proms petition update
The Jon Lord for BBC Proms petition that Elinor started about a month ago is still open. As of this writing, it has collected 1,582 signatures with a goal of 5,000.
C’mon! We know that more people on THS alone have read that message. With Jon now struggling with cancer (and even if he didn’t), you know it’s the right thing to do. Go and sign it now.
Grateful to Nick for posting this and to lots of other people who are helping keep up the momentum for this worthy cause. Apart from signing it yourself, we want people to tell their friends, relatives and other contacts so that we can spread the word as far as possible. Even if you don’t live in the UK, the annual Proms concerts in the autumn are known worldwide and watched in many countries. They are not made up just of standard classical concerts but are becoming an eclectic mix of musical tastes with something to suit everyone. Jon’s classical work will obviously fit but the rock element has not been properly represented at the event yet. Let’s make this a first!
January 5th, 2012 at 07:15i was really pleased when this idea come up and signed as soon as i could but i was then quite disheartend when i checked recently and noted how few had signed it. come on everyone lets support one of the best chaps there is in music.
January 5th, 2012 at 13:01I hope Jon’s recovery will get an extra boost with this huge compliment and trigger him to get up to speeds knowing this goal : )
January 5th, 2012 at 15:19I just signed….but it’s incredible don’t recognize his rock element…He invented an hammond sound and he has been the first to introduce classic music ionto rock with the Artwoods!
January 5th, 2012 at 15:325000 votes are not much:DONT LET HIM WAIT
January 5th, 2012 at 16:59I just signed in and have to stand behind the guys above and Jon. Show some courage and sign in too! There’s nothing to be shy about. Jon earns it. He made rock and classical music meet in a way that it opened new doors, especially for today’s musicians. Apart from that he created a unique style of hammond playing which has been influenced generations of organ players.
Get well soon, Jon!
Cheers,

jon est mon maitre………………..
January 6th, 2012 at 19:21@6 what Sir. Lord wrote? thanks
January 7th, 2012 at 12:52Jon Lord’s music should be featured at the Proms. Gramophone magazine’s review of Boom Of The Tingling Strings said, ‘this piece has “Proms favourite” written all over it’.
January 7th, 2012 at 13:33The same could, given the chance, be said of Sarabande, Durham Concerto, To Notice Such Things, Concerto For Group & Orchestra, Windows, Gemini Suite, Before I Forget, From Darkness To Light, Beyond The Notes, Pictured Within, Zarabanda Solitaria and more, including some Purple tunes.
There are now over 2,750 signatures on the Jon Lord for the BBC Proms petition. If you have still not yet signed, please do, it only takes a few moments. And tell your friends.
It’s up to 2,923 while I write this!
January 8th, 2012 at 11:53I signed this when it first came up. Hey Nigel, will we see your book soon?
January 9th, 2012 at 21:133,335 now, so now for the big push everyone to the 5,000.
January 10th, 2012 at 13:03Very disappointing from my point of view. Why on earth the link is not on Gillan website and Roger and Steve websites as well so it attracts a bigger audience. I just wish people could remember and appreciate Dr Jon Lord contribution for the last 40 years. May God bless him and he recovers fully which is equally important for him for all of his music fans.
January 11th, 2012 at 15:193,733 is not disappointing at all. We are very close to the target and getting lots of support. It would be difficult for the current band to promote this – they could even be involved in the result – who knows. Keep signing and thank you.
January 12th, 2012 at 07:58Come on folks. We can do it!! Jon is in my opinion the best musician ever in Rock and Roll!

January 19th, 2012 at 08:105000 signatures just achieved. We did it!
January 19th, 2012 at 17:26And now…….
What do we want to hear!
Something instrumental or maybe a song with vocals
I hope Doogie stays at home.
Bring Sam Brown and let Jon play the great solo in STOP!
I am very fond of Miller Anderson.
Maybe Gillan is still able to sing Pictured Within as in the Soundboardseries in Japan…..
