Emotional Fire
Joe Lynn Turner’s Sunstorm, an AOR side project with German/American producer Dennis Ward, will release the third album entitled Emotional Fire on February 24th in Europe (February 28th in North America) on Frontiers Records.
The Sunstorm project was born after Turner met with Frontiers Records’ President Serafino Perugino, as a way to dig up some old gems, written by JLT during the mid 80’s. The task was to create an ultimate Joe Lynn Turner Melodic Rock ‘dream collection’. This brought on the release of the first Sunstorm album in 2006 and the follow up House of Dreams three years later.
While the first two albums basic inspiration came from the Melodic Rock catalogue of songs that Turner penned for himself or other artists of the genre, for this third album, Frontiers and JLT decided to look at Turner’s numerous vocal sessions he did in the 80’s as a background vocalist for other artists. This brought on a resurrection of some of Michael Bolton’s tracks such as Gina (originally included on The Hunger album, where Turner contributed background vocals), You Wouldn’t Know Love and Emotional Fire, which Bolton penned for the Heart of Stone album by Cher. “I sang background on the original Gina” — says Joe — “Michael and I did all of the parts but I tried to rock it up a bit more than the original… not so pop! Good song though! It’s funny…I heard Emotional Fire from Desmond Child during a writing session and then he asked me to sing background vocals on it! Crazy! It’s like one big circle!”

Oh man…I wonder if the music is as generic as the album cover.
December 23rd, 2011 at 00:55Are we taling about “cover-art” now?
Don’t let me start.
Or should we?
I m afraid you do have a point somewhere.
JLT produces a lot of material.
But real classic albums?
Well, at least he tries.
But maybe he should record with other, more talented people?
1 Why did OTR REALLY stop, Joe?
2 why is there no OTR DVD?
3 Why is there no OTR studio effort?
Did someone say NO?
Talking about generic…..
I watched a DVD from 2009, Live In Brazil.
GREAT VOCALS!!!!
Oh man, I wish he had that voice during the Slaves and Masters Tour.
Hopefully it was my download otherwise I d think that in the dvd vocals were not all, ermmm…. live?
Generic is not his voice, not by a long shot.
But that band!
Oh, I missed Rondinelli so much in the sound.
And that keuyboardplayer vanished in the mix untill the show was almost over.
I first thought they hired someone without a clue what a keyboard, let alone a HAMMOND, is.
Maybe there is a good reason, probably money, why he has this different bands wherever he gigs, approach.
There are always good songs inbewteen all those he releases, so…..
But the man really deserves a better position.
Btw, what happened to Brazan Abbot and all that?
December 26th, 2011 at 12:15Is Nikolo still working on that “new” project?
i’ll pass……joe singing old michael bolton songs from the 80’s sounds kinda pink to me. Nice looking cover ( lady ) though.
December 28th, 2011 at 11:19Joe’s voice is still very good. The music is generic and predictable. Joe and Ritchie were a good combo. How about Joe in Blackmore’s Night as a contrast/compliment to Candace?
December 29th, 2011 at 23:26Enjoyed his last 2 Sunstorm albums good quality aor rock, it’s an acquired taste but like anything out there if you like that type of material
December 30th, 2011 at 13:24go for it, if not move on.
This is his true niche. The first 2 are good for what they are, and he should stick to this melodic rock style. He has a great voice for this and is much more at home here as far as I’m concerned. I look forward to this release, believe it or not.
Cheers
December 30th, 2011 at 15:34Agreed, AOR is his major comfort zone. But then again his stab at tracks like GOB in OTR also show his current range potential, wicked in parts. So he’s not lagging a lot there either… but that album he said they’d make, and the live one before it he said they’d make? 🙂 Some raging B-nut says OTR stopped? If it can be confirmed please elaboroate rather than speculate. Or perhaps the fanclan is more up to speed than reality. Who cares?
December 31st, 2011 at 07:16Joe proved during the Over The Rainbow tours that he could handle vocals for classics like Eyes Of The World, Gates Of Babylon and Kill The King.
And he sang almost perfect on other RAINBOW songs like Death Alley Driver, Can´t Let You Go, Spotlight Kid and I Surrender.
But I ll always regret the fact they did not get around to staples like STRANDED, TEARING OUT MY HEART, CATCH THE RAINBOW and EYES OF FIRE.
I really would like to know what really happened to OTR.
I lost my emailadress from Paul Morris.
Maybe someone from OTR would like to write me, please?
Greetz and happy 2012 from Mark in Rotterdam.

Yesterday I gathered a bunch of OTR youTubes to make up my own OTR gig DVD.
December 31st, 2011 at 18:31Such a shame I cant buy an official one.
Deep Purple MkIII reunion is no more possible…I hope I will see true Rainbow one day…I miss them…Joe is in great shape and his songwriting is now good (in my opinion his last solo album is the best one)…

January 3rd, 2012 at 13:00…and maybe someone didn’t know this dvd even exist…
@10 Do you have that DVD? I haven’t heard about it before and thought maybe they never got past producing a trailer… 🙂 Great album, Heaven & Earth.
January 3rd, 2012 at 20:22I see now that this DVD is available on H&E’s site.
January 3rd, 2012 at 20:38I recall this DVD from a long time ago.
But I never came around to see more than a YouTube : (
Gonna find out now. : )

January 4th, 2012 at 00:19I got this one years ago. I think from MBTP or The DPAS…can’t remember. Ritchie is in it for a moment wearing his Sranger in us All Top Hat.
January 4th, 2012 at 17:47Great songs by Stuart Smith, Ritchie’s so called protegee…..
Maybe he was too shot after he lost Kelly Hansen to Foreigner?
I wish we would hear more from him.
January 10th, 2012 at 00:06I prefer ie. Second Hand Life to this project although the first Sunstorm cd was very good so will surely give this a listen as well, yep.
